Guangdong province: 139th Canton Fair sets new record with overseas buyer attendance

0

GUANGZHOU, China, May 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The 139th Canton Fair concluded on May 5, setting a new record for overseas buyer attendance. Data from the China Foreign Trade Centre show that across 15 days and three phases, the fair welcomed a record 314,000 overseas buyers from 220 countries and regions who came to explore opportunities at “China’s No. 1 Fair.”

Inside the Canton Fair venue, the “PHYBOT C2” bipedal humanoid robot, capable of playing badminton, handles challenges from buyers with ease.
Inside the Canton Fair venue, the “PHYBOT C2” bipedal humanoid robot, capable of playing badminton, handles challenges from buyers with ease.

The event covered about 1.55 million square meters with 75,700 booths. More than 32,000 exhibitors participated, including about 3,900 first-time exhibitors. Over 4.65 million products were on display; new products, green products, and products with independent intellectual property rights accounted for 23%, 22%, and 25%, respectively — reflecting the “new, green and smart” direction of “Made in China” and “Made in Guangdong.”

During the fair, organizers held more than 600 new-product launch events. The number of new products introduced rose 27%, and events for emerging future industries increased 30%. The fair also showcased AI-enabled scenarios for the first time, including robotic patrol inspections and drone flight demonstrations.

Nine specialized exhibition zones were newly established for this session. Phase I featured zones for consumer drones, agricultural drones, smart wearables and display technology. Phase II debuted zones for bamboo and wood household products and tableware, integrated housing and outdoor facilities, and trendy accessories. Phase III added a zone for functional and technical fabrics. Nearly 670 enterprises took part in these specialized zones, erecting more than 1,300 booths and highlighting innovative developments across industries.

Guangdong province got off to a strong start in foreign trade this year. In the first quarter, its import and export volume, national share, incremental growth and contribution rate all ranked first in China. Exports reached 1.53 trillion yuan, up 14.3%, while imports reached 1.01 trillion yuan, up 27.8%. Import growth was broad-based, led by the “old three” — mobile phones, computers and home appliances — as well as garments and luggage. At the same time, the province advanced its “new three” products: exports of 3D printers, drones and digital cameras rose 136.9%, 51.2% and 60.2%, respectively. These products of new quality productive forces have received popularity worldwide. Exports of self-owned brands grew 38%, raising their share of Guangdong’s total export value in the first quarter to 26.6%.

As a vital window into China’s opening-up and a barometer of its foreign trade, the Canton Fair has evolved alongside the Chinese economy over its 70-year history. This session’s successful conclusion complemented Guangdong’s robust start in foreign trade. Many Guangdong enterprises used the Canton Fair platform to engage directly with global buyers and secure international orders, helping Guangdong maintain its top national ranking in foreign trade scale. In turn, Guangdong’s thriving development continuously injects vitality into the Canton Fair. The major foreign trade province’s strong industrial base, comprehensive supply chain and innovative products and technologies continue to sustain the fair’s global influence.

FBI tracks down centuries-old Christian artifact in unexpected place: ‘Incredibly exciting’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The FBI recently announced that it recovered a stolen, centuries-old religious artifact from Italy after it resurfaced in an unexpected location: New England.

The 17th-century reliquary urn was obtained by FBI agents on February 11, though officials did not announce its recovery until April 30.

The urn was “one of 17 ecclesiastical artifacts stolen from the Church of San Michele Arcangelo di Cangiano,” between 2012 and 2022, the FBI’s Boston office said in a statement.

Images show the gilded artifact’s ornate Baroque design, which was used to hold Catholic relics.

Kristen Setera, a spokesperson for the FBI’s Boston office, told Fox News Digital the urn was discovered missing during an inventory in November 2022.

Investigators later traced the roughly 400-year-old artifact to a New England antiques dealer, who had purchased it from another dealer in Italy.

“We do not know how or who stole the urn from the church, but we do know it was sold to a New England-based antiques dealer and shipped to the United States,” said Setera.

The FBI worked with Italian authorities to identify the New England antiques dealer, who agents later interviewed.

“During the interview, the urn was examined and information was gleaned on how the antiques dealer came to acquire the urn,” Setera added. “Based on this interview and examination of the urn, the determination was made [that] the urn was the one missing from the church of San Michele Arcangelo.”

She also said, “This information was shared with the antiques dealer, who ultimately agreed to turn over the urn to the FBI for repatriation to Italy.”

“It represents the intersection of faith, history and art.”

The FBI worked with the Italian Ministry of Culture throughout the process.

The urn had a formal repatriation ceremony in Italy on April 29, the FBI said.

Ted E. Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston Division, called the recovery “incredibly exciting.”

The sNDA for Sacituzumab Tirumotecan (sac-TMT) in Combination with Pembrolizumab as First‑Line Treatment for PD-L1-positive NSCLC Accepted for Review by NMPA

0

CHENGDU, China, May 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Sichuan Kelun-Biotech Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (“Kelun-Biotech” or the “Company”) announced that the sNDA (the “Application”) for the Company’s TROP2 ADC sacituzumab tirumotecan (sac-TMT, also known as SKB264/MK-2870) (佳泰莱®) was accepted for review by the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China. The application is for sac-TMT in combination with MSD’s[1] anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody pembrolizumab (KEYTRUDA®[2]) as first‑line treatment for adult patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who have PD-L1 tumor proportion score (TPS) ≥1% and are EGFR-negative and ALK-negative. This acceptance is based on the positive results from the OptiTROP-Lung05 registrational Phase III study, and the application is the fifth indication application for sac-TMT that has been accepted by the NMPA.

The OptiTROP-Lung05 is a randomized, open-label, multicenter, Phase III clinical study that evaluates the efficacy and safety profile of sac-TMT in combination with pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab monotherapy as first-line treatment for PD-L1-positive locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC. At a pre-specified interim analysis, the study has met its primary endpoint of progression-free survival (PFS) and demonstrated a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement as concluded by the Independent Data Monitoring Committee (IDMC). A positive trend in overall survival (OS) was also observed. Notably, the OptiTROP-Lung05 study is the first Phase III study of an immunotherapy and ADC combination to meet its primary endpoint in first-line NSCLC treatment. The study has been selected for an oral presentation at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting (Abstract number #8506, Lung Cancer –Non-Small Cell Metastatic).

Previously, sac-TMT in combination with intravenous and subcutaneous pembrolizumab for the first-line treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC who have PD-L1 TPS≥1% and are EGFR-negative and ALK-negative was granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation (BTD) by the NMPA. On April 9, 2026, the CDE’s official website announced that the Application has entered the priority review and approval process. This marks the fifth sac-TMT indication to enter the CDE’s priority review and approval process. Through this process, the review time will be significantly shortened, potentially expediting its approval pathways.

Dr. Michael Ge, CEO of Kelun-Biotech said, “We are delighted to see the acceptance of the fifth indication application for sac-TMT. Compared to immunotherapy alone, the ADC combination with KEYTRUDA® as first-line treatment for PD-L1-positive NSCLC has achieved not only positive results in PFS, but also a trend toward benefit in OS. This achievement holds significant importance for improving current treatment regimens for lung cancer. We will continue to collaborate with our partners to advance the clinical development and commercialization of sac-TMT, to help more patients with lung cancer and enhance their survival outcomes.”

[2] KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab) is a registered trademark of Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC (MSD), a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, USA.

About sac-TMT

Sac-TMT, a core product of the Company, is a novel human TROP2 ADC in which the Company has proprietary intellectual property rights, targeting advanced solid tumors such as NSCLC, breast cancer (BC), gastric cancer (GC), gynecological tumors and genitourinary tumors, among others. Sac-TMT is developed with a unique, bifunctional linker that maximizes payload delivery to tumor cells both through its irreversible connection with the anti-TROP2 monoclonal antibody sacituzumab and its pH-sensitive cleavage from a belotecan-derivative topoisomerase I inhibitor payload in the lysosome, with a drug-to-antibody-ratio (DAR) of 7.4. Sac-TMT specifically recognizes TROP2 on the surface of tumor cells by recombinant anti-TROP2 humanized monoclonal antibodies, which is then endocytosed by tumor cells and releases the payload KL610023 intracellularly. KL610023, as a topoisomerase I inhibitor, induces DNA damage to tumor cells, which in turn leads to cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis. In addition, it also releases KL610023 in the tumor microenvironment. Given that KL610023 is membrane permeable, it can enable a bystander effect, or in other words kill adjacent tumor cells.

In May 2022, the Company licensed the exclusive rights to MSD (the tradename of Merck & Co., Inc, Rahway, NJ, USA) to develop, use, manufacture and commercialize sac-TMT in all territories outside of Greater China (which includes Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan).

To date, four indications for sac-TMT have been approved and marketed in China for: 1) unresectable locally advanced or metastatic TNBC who have received at least two prior systemic therapies (at least one of them for advanced or metastatic setting); 2) EGFR mutant-positive locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous NSCLC following progression on EGFR-TKI therapy and platinum-based chemotherapy; 3) EGFR mutant-positive locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous NSCLC who progressed after treatment with EGFR-TKI therapy; 4) unresectable or metastatic HR+/HER2- (IHC 0, IHC 1+ or IHC 2+/ISH-) BC who have received prior ET and at least one line of chemotherapy in advanced setting. The first two indications above have been included in China’s National Reimbursement Drug List (NRDL). This inclusion is expected to bring clinically meaningful benefits to a greater number of patients with BC and NSCLC. Additionally, sac-TMT has been granted six Breakthrough Therapy Designations (BTDs) by the NMPA.

Sac-TMT is the world’s first TROP2 ADC drug approved for marketing in lung cancer. A new indication application for sac-TMT in combination with pembrolizumab (KEYTRUDA®) as first‑line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC who have PD-L1 TPS≥1% and are EGFR-negative and ALK-negative has been accepted for review by the NMPA, and has entered the priority review and approval process. As of today, Kelun-Biotech has initiated 9 registrational clinical studies in China. MSD has initiated 17 ongoing global Phase III clinical studies of sac-TMT as a monotherapy or in combination with pembrolizumab or other anti-cancer agents for several types of cancer. These studies are sponsored and led by MSD.

James Tedesco makes State of Origin statement as Roosters make it six straight

0

James Tedesco has helped the Sydney Roosters survive a scare, scoring two tries to topple Gold Coast 28-12 and give his side a sixth straight NRL win.

In what was perhaps the most laboured performance of their unbeaten run, Trent Robinson’s side were led to victory at Polytec Stadium in Gosford on Friday night by another vintage display from Tedesco.

The fullback missed out on State of Origin selection last year but did every bit to showcase to NSW coach Laurie Daley why he deserves to wear the Blues No.1 jersey ahead of Penrith’s Dylan Edwards on May 27.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

Tedesco scored a try in each half, set up Rob Toia for the Roosters’ opening four-pointer and chalked up 227 metres with the ball in hand.

The Tricolours captain was faultless at the back as Robinson’s men overcame a sluggish start to inflict a third-straight defeat on Josh Hannay’s Gold Coast (2-7) side.

After Victor Radley was placed on report for a high shot on AJ Brimson, Chris Randall rampaged past Sam Walker to put the Titans on the board.

Up until the half hour mark Hannay’s side held their gloves up, but when prop Mo Fotuaika was penalised for a hip-drop tackle the Roosters sparked into life.

Centre Toia crashed over on the right edge — surviving a lengthy bunker review — to put them on the board.

Winger Daniel Tupou then batted a ball back for Tedesco to score and make it 10-6 in the hosts’ favour at halftime.

Some daring plays from fullback Keano Kini kept Gold Coast in the game but back-rower Siua Wong blasted through the middle to swing things in the Roosters’ favour.

Off the back of Wong’s run, Toia powered over for his second and the Titans’ issues compounded when Brimson was put through a hole by rookie halfback Zane Harrison but dropped the ball cold.

Tupou then added the 191st try of his NRL career — leapfrogging Billy Slater into outright third in the standings for most tries in premiership history.

The Tonga winger jumped over Gold Coast debutant Jensen Taumoepeau to claim and then score off a Walker bomb.

Walker’s errant goalkicking — he kicked two from six conversion attempts — only kept the visitors within touching distance.

Walker’s inaccuracy didn’t matter with Hugo Savala diving on a Reece Robson grubberkick and Tedesco adding a second at the death.

Kini crossed late for a consolation Titans try.

Disney adults trend continues to grow as Kylie Kelce, Brenda Song chime in on the topic

Kylie Kelce may soon become one of those Disney adults who visit the parks without her kids.

On a recent episode of “Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce,” the podcast host and wife of former NFL star Jason Kelce, said she’s starting to believe that Disney World and Disneyland are more for adults than children.

Brenda Song, star of the hit Netflix show “Running Point,” joined the pod on Thursday, April 30, as the two women discussed trips to the resorts.

DISNEYLAND MAY SCRAP LONGSTANDING PARK RULE THAT FRUSTRATED VISITORS

“I have realized that it is not for the kids, it’s for us,” Kylie Kelce wife said. “And as adults, we can appreciate the magic and also the food and beverage — and also, our legs can do it. It’s a lot.”

Song, who is engaged to Macaulay Culkin, is a former Disney star. She said she’d love to be Kylie Kelce’s personal guide at the parks.

She is best known for her Disney Channel roles, including London Tipton on “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.”

“Please — I’m a Disney adult,” Song said. “That’s my dream.”

“Perfect because I refuse to go there unless I have a Disney adult at my beck and call,” Kylie Kelce said, adding that she’s not a Disney adult and relies on experienced park-goers to help navigate the experience.

“As an adult, I feel like me and Mac love Disneyland more than our children do,” Song said.

“Just as a kid, growing up, it was always there and, having worked on Disney Channel in my teenage years, we would just go after work. They always had events there,” Song told Kylie Kelce on the podcast.

“We went so often, it was kinda like the coolest backyard in the world,” she added. “So it feels like home. But Disney World, to me, is truly like the most magical place.”

The 18-year-old apologised multiple times in the aftermath of the incident, including on the field and after the game.

“My language was totally unacceptable, I’m disappointed in myself, and apologise to the LGBTQI+ community and our club,” Evans said in a statement on Thursday.

“I knew as soon as it came out of my mouth, that I’d made a bad mistake and this language is unacceptable on or off the field.”

Brisbane CEO Sam Graham said the club was disappointed, but will continue to support the youngster.

“Our club is committed to being an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected and able to belong, including players, staff, members and fans,” he said.

“Koby has addressed his teammates and through this situation has been upfront with the club and AFL about this matter.

“We recognise that Koby is at the beginning of his career and we will work with him to provide the necessary support and education, to ensure he understands the impact words can have on people”

During the period of suspension, Evans will undertake LGBTQI+ inclusion education, delivered by subject matter experts.

“Everyone understands that homophobia and homophobic language has absolutely no place in our game at any level or in the wider community,” AFL chief operating officer Tom Harley said.

“Our players have a very clear understanding of what is acceptable on the football field and in society.

“Koby self-reported this incident and has taken ownership of his mistake both privately and publicly. “It is extremely disappointing to be dealing with another incident of this nature.”

Evans was drafted with pick 38 in last year’s AFL draft and has played five VFL matches with the Lions.

This latest investigation comes just two weeks after the completion of St Kilda forward Lance Collard’s own homophobic slur saga.

Collard was given a nine-match sanction (two games suspended) by an AFL disciplinary tribunal.

After appealing the outcome, the Saints had Collard’s ban reduced to a four-match sanction (two games suspended) by the AFL Appeals Board.

It was Collard’s second homophobic slur ban in the space of three seasons. He was given a six-match ban in 2024.

Since the start of 2024, Port Adelaide’s Jeremy Finlayson (three matches), Gold Coast’s Wil Powell (five matches), West Coast’s Jack Graham (four matches), Sydney’s Riak Andrews (five matches) and Adelaide’s Izak Rankine (four matches) have also received bans for homophobic slurs.
