Trip.com Group and Zhoushan Launch “Hello Zhoushan” YOYO Series to Promote Island Tourism

  • Zhoushan and Trip.com Group join forces to drive island tourism development and enhance global brand influence

SHANGHAI, Oct. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Trip.com Group and Zhoushan Municipal Development and Reform Commission have jointly launched the “Hello Zhoushan” x Trip.com Group YOYO-themed series to support the economic and cultural enrichment of China’s islands, while elevating Zhoushan’s tourism profile on the global stage.

As part of the broader “Hello Zhoushan” initiative launched in 2023, Zhoushan, a picturesque archipelago in China, has adopted the strategy of “one island, one product, one policy.” This approach aims to boost living standards and enhance community well-being through high-quality tourism development. By blending natural beauty with sustainable practices, Zhoushan seeks to create a distinct cultural tourism experience unique to the islands.

In 2024, Zhoushan marks the second anniversary of this ambitious project. It has thus launched the “Hello Zhoushan” x Trip.com Group YOYO series on the Trip.com app and social platforms, to strengthen international collaboration and expand its circle of “island friends”.

The colourful and vibrant logos series symbolises the unique beauty of each island in Zhoushan, while also highlighting Trip.com Group’s mascot YOYO’s adventurous spirit and love for discovering new destinations.

Inspired by various travel themes and scenarios, YOYO is depicted in a playful array of cartoon images. As the first official “Friend of the Island,” YOYO leads global partners on a journey to explore the depths of the East China Sea, greeting each island and unveiling a variety of activities—from local cuisine and sports to sea fishing and camping.

The collaboration between Trip.com Group and Zhoushan will focus on three key objectives: increasing brand visibility, driving customer traffic, and boosting consumer spending.

By launching the joint “Hello Zhoushan” x Trip.com Group YOYO brand globally, along with a series of creative online marketing campaigns and offline events like an island food search, the goal is to enhance the visibility of Zhoushan’s island tourism. International travellers can also further discover its offerings through innovative ads on the Trip.com app.

Through targeted promotions to the Gen Z market and community activities across all four seasons of the year, this partnership also aims to expand Zhoushan’s reach and popularity among young people, professionals and tourists.

Moreover, initiatives like the Zhoushan Island Homestay Practitioner Training Program and the customised “Island Friends” product offering will enhance the hospitality services, operational efficiency, and pricing strategies of the island’s tourism. These efforts aim to broaden the visitor base while increasing tourism-related revenue.

Looking ahead, Trip.com Group plans to leverage resources from the Tourism Industry Alliance and its global partners to bring more corporate brands on board with the “Hello Zhoushan” initiative. By expanding its network and infusing fresh momentum into Zhoushan’s island tourism, Trip.com Group aims to drive transformative growth and elevate the region’s tourism landscape.

A passenger on a flight apparently tried to take a seat 27 rows ahead of her assigned seat — and other travelers were not letting the bold move slide.

A Reddit user recently took to the subreddit thread “r/AmericanAirlines” to discuss the moment which has people reacting.

The user said in a post that although people try to pull “annoying” moves on flights often, this occasion on an American Airlines flight gave passengers a “great laugh.”

AIRLINE PASSENGER GOES VIRAL FOR RECORDING NEIGHBOR’S MIDFLIGHT PHOTO ATTEMPTS

The user told Fox News Digital that the Sept. 26 flight from Phoenix to Los Angeles was full — and someone tried to steal a nearby passenger’s seat.

“Today I got a great laugh at a seat taker,” the user wrote in the Reddit post. “She got all comfy in seat 8D with her mom, I guess, so you would have thought it was her seat.”

The Reddit user added, “Well, lo and behold, the right seat owner comes up and, of course, says, ‘Excuse me, but you’re in my seat.’”

The user, who said they were sitting nearby, could hear the entire encounter from across the aisle.

CRUISE PASSENGERS GO WILD HIDING RUBBER DUCKS ON SHIPS IN VIRAL GAME OF HIDE-AND-SEEK

The user continued, “The seat stealer then says, “Can you just move to my seat as I want to sit by my mother?’ The person who’s [seat it was] … asks, ‘What seat is it,’ and the seat stealer says 35B!”

Boarding pass

The boarding pass of the “seat stealer” was 27 rows behind where she initially attempted to sit down. (iStock)

The Reddit poster explained that the rightful seat owner blurted out, “Are you [f——] serious?” and joked that the passenger was “crazy.”

The user said that after a few passengers laughed, the “seat stealer” got up and walked back 27 rows to her assigned seat.

EMERGENCY LANDING PROMPTS UNITED AIRLINES PILOT TO ORDER DINNER FOR 150 PASSENGERS

The user said the woman glared as she walked back to row 35, but it felt good to “put [a] seat stealer in her place.”

The Reddit post sparked reactions from users in the comment section, with many agreeing that the woman shouldn’t have tried to take a seat that wasn’t assigned to her.

“I’m an FA (not for this airline) and I LOVE kicking seat thieves back to their spot. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine,” one user wrote.

Another person commented, “Maybe next time mom will book seats together, even if it costs more. Some people are so entitled!”

“Did everyone clap? I would have clapped,” another wrote.

The Reddit user said the woman had a ticket on the American Airlines flight for a seat in row 35.  (iStock)

California-based etiquette expert Rosalinda Randall told Fox News Digital that “assigned seating does not come with an option to relocate to a preferred seat.”

“People are becoming bolder in taking what they want, or expecting others to back off,” she said, adding, “Civility requires a lot of self-control, listening and deep sighs of disbelief.”

If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, Randall recommended first double-checking your boarding pass to ensure you’re in the right place — then seek the assistance of fellow passengers or flight attendants if it escalates.

Randall said, on the opposing side, to never expect someone to “accept your story or reason for taking their seat.”

She added, “Faking that you don’t understand, will only delay the inevitable,” and, “Don’t fake being asleep. We’ll nudge you and ask you to move.”

Randall also said to be cautious of how you handle a situation if you’re traveling with children who are paying attention.

Fox News Digital reached out to American Airlines for comment, and to the Reddit user for further comment.

Chinese travelers trickle back to a Taiwanese island, mere miles from the mainland

0

Remnants of military conflict surround Zhang Zhong Jie’s cafe.

The coffee shop sits within an abandoned military fortification, its entrance surrounded by rusting tanks.

It’s a scene the citizens of Taiwan’s remote Kinmen Island know well. All that separates the cafe from mainland China are 6 miles of choppy water and a row of anti-invasion spikes along the beach.

Despite the long-standing tensions between Taiwan and China, tourists from the mainland were the cafe’s main source of revenue since it opened in 2018.

“In the beginning, we had regular group tourists — perhaps at least two or three busloads from travel agencies every day,” Zhang said.

But five years on, things look very different.

Although China claims sovereignty over Taiwan, Chinese tourists were prevented from visiting Taiwan for years.

In August 2019, Beijing blocked individual travelers from visiting Taiwan, citing poor cross-strait relations. In 2020, tour groups were banned from visiting because of Covid-19 pandemic.

For many on Kinmen, the lack of Chinese visitors has been devastating.

“We haven’t had mainland tourists for years,” Zhang said. “The tourism industry in Kinmen has long been heavily reliant on Chinese tourists, so the impact is definitely significant.”

From tanks to tourism

In the mid-20th century, Kinmen was on the front line of China’s conflict with Taiwan.

Soldiers trained on its beaches, towns were filled with anti-Communist propaganda, and bomb shelters were tucked away in gardens.

But as the military presence in Kinmen subsided, the island pivoted toward tourism.

Residents didn’t shy from the island’s conflict-ridden past. Like Zhang, many opened cafes in former military fortifications, sold “war rations” in restaurants or made specialty “bomb knives” out of old Chinese artillery shells.

A short boat ride away

Kinmen is roughly 1.8 miles from China, according to the Kinmen County Government — but more than 110 miles from the Taiwanese mainland.

As a result, “business in Kinmen generally depends heavily on… links with mainland China,” said local tour guide Chen Hua Sheng. Half-hour-long boat rides that connect the island with China are running again, but have been mostly filled with Taiwanese passengers since Chinese travelers weren’t allowed to visit Kinmen.

With the end of Covid, many hoped those boats would ferry Chinese visitors back to Kinmen once more.

But on Feb. 14, two Chinese citizens were killed during a collision between a Taiwanese Coast Guard boat and a Chinese boat, sparking an escalation of tensions.

Chinese tourists are now traveling to some of Taiwan’s remote islands, but the return of travelers to Kinmen has been slow. Figures from Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council show that the number of Chinese nationals entering Kinmen by boat dropped from more than 400,000 in 2019 to fewer than 18,000 in 2023.

For Wu Zeng Yun, CEO of the governmental Kinmen-Matsu Joint Services Center, the lack of tourists has been interpreted as a punishment from Beijing, he said.

Struggling under pressure

With [cut?] local business owners have felt the impact of the loss of Chinese tourists, who previously contributed nearly $200 million to Kinmen’s annual economy.

Noodle shop owner Beddy Chang said Chinese visitors once comprised 80% of her customer base. Without them, she’s now turned to exporting products abroad, she said.

Others like Wu Zeng Yun — whose family once made and sold Kinmen’s “bomb knives” to tourists — have shifted their businesses toward Taiwan’s main island.

“Without mainland tourists, we take our business out,” Wu explained. “We regularly hold events in department stores across Taiwan.”

But others have had less luck.

After former restaurant owner Lu Wen Shiung closed his business, he began fishing and offering boat tours to supplement his income. But this too has been difficult, he said.

After the Feb. 14. incident, China’s Coast Guard significantly increased its presence in the area, crossing into Kinmen’s restricted waters on numerous occasions, staging military exercises in May and even boarding a Taiwanese tour boat in February.

Standing in his small boat in the narrow strait that separates Kinmen and China, Lu said he experienced those escalations firsthand.

He showed videos he filmed on his phone of Chinese Coast Guard ships bearing down on him as he motored through the waters around Kinmen.

“There is a slight concern that if we are taken while in our waters, we might be subjected to some unconventional treatment,” Lu said, staring out across the waves.

Sustained hope

In late July, Taiwanese and Chinese authorities reached an agreement over the Feb. 14 boat incident that allowed the bodies of the dead Chinese fishermen to return to the mainland.

At the end of August, local Kinmen legislator Chen Yu Jen travelled to Beijing to discuss the resumption of tourism to Kinmen. She was told that Chinese tourists would soon return.

The first group of mainland tourists arrived in Kinmen in late September, according to local media.

The 22 people who arrived for a two-day visit don’t represent a full-scale return of Chinese tourism, but it is a start. However, some in Kinmen expressed skepticism that the situation would ever return to what it once was.

But local guide Chen is optimistic, he said.

“We hope mainland Chinese people can visit Taiwan and Kinmen again to promote economic development on both sides.”

Australian TGA Approves Additional Indication for Telix’s Illuccix® to Include Patient Selection for PSMA-Targeted Therapy

0

MELBOURNE, Australia, Oct. 8, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited (ASX: TLX, Telix, the Company) today announces that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved the use of Illuccix® (kit for the preparation of 68Ga-PSMA-11[1] injection) to select patients for PSMA[2]-targeted radionuclide therapy.

Illuccix remains the only PSMA-PET[3] agent approved in Australia, manufactured to GMP[4] standards, and listed on the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for imaging patients with prostate cancer. This label expansion means that it is now approved to select patients with metastatic prostate cancer for treatment with the only approved PSMA-targeted radionuclide therapy (Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan, or Pluvicto®[5]). To qualify for PSMA-targeted therapy, patients should be identified by PSMA imaging[6].

The latest approval expands the clinical utility for Illuccix, which has been approved in Australia since November 2021 for the initial staging of intermediate to high-risk patients with prostate cancer and the re-staging of patients with recurrent prostate cancer[7]

Anne Savage, CEO Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia commented, “Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with an estimated 26,368 men likely to be diagnosed in 2024. Of concern, around 4,000 of these newly diagnosed men will have Stage III or IV metastatic prostate cancer, which has spread beyond the prostate to other parts of the body, becoming more immediately life-threatening. Reflecting Telix’s continued innovation and commitment to patient care, this additional approved indication for Illuccix will help fulfil a critical unmet need by facilitating access to timely and effective treatment with PSMA-targeted therapy.”

Professor Andrew Scott AM, Director of the Department of Molecular Imaging and Therapy at Austin Health, Melbourne added, “In the VISION trial[8], Telix’s PSMA-PET agent was used to help doctors detect prostate cancer and identify appropriate patients for PSMA-targeted radionuclide therapy with Lu 177 vipivotide tetraxetan, based on a theranostic approach. It is great news for patients that Illuccix is now approved for this use in Australia, with clinicians able to use this product in more stages of the patient journey, to confidently and accurately detect and help manage this disease.”

Raphaël Ortiz, CEO Telix International continued, “We welcome the TGA’s decision to approve Illuccix for selecting patients for PSMA-targeted therapy. Historically, many radiopharmaceuticals in Australia – including PSMA theranostics – have been produced in-house not subject to regulatory approval or GMP standards. With Illuccix now registered on the ARTG[9] for broader use, widely available and reimbursed, Telix is actively working with clinical sites to ensure patients have access to the only approved PSMA-PET imaging agent in Australia.

“Men with prostate cancer deserve to be given products that have been through clinical trials and are subject to rigorous evaluation by regulatory authorities for quality, effectiveness, and safety profile. By accurately identifying patients most likely to respond to therapy, Illuccix has the potential to reduce the mortality burden of prostate cancer in Australia – a burden which claims the lives of 3,743 men every year.”

Illuccix is available to order via Telix’s distribution partner in Australia, Global Medical Solutions Australia, at the following link: https://www.globalmedicalsolutions.com.au/pages/contact-us

The Summit brings together leading voices from the healthcare industry, academia, non-profit organizations, and patient advocacy groups across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss policy and advocacy efforts to eliminate hepatitis. Discussions center around improving equitable access to diagnosis and treatment, empowering vulnerable populations, and driving collective action towards a hepatitis-free APAC region.

Dr.Opart Karnkawinpong, Permanent Secretary of the Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, is opening the event, along with representatives from the Ministries of Public Health in Thailand Vietnam and Pakistan.

“Viral hepatitis is a silent public health threat that demands collective action to achieve the elimination targets set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Collaboration among stakeholders is essential to make significant progress and ensure that no one is left behind,” states Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong.

Hepatitis is liver inflammation caused by infectious viruses or noninfectious agents, leading to health issues that can be fatal. There are five main types of viral hepatitis — A, B, C, D, and E. While all types cause liver disease, they differ in transmission, severity, and prevention. Hepatitis continues to be a major public health challenge in Asia, with over 821,000 deaths reported across Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific in 2022, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In Thailand alone, over 2.2 million people are living with hepatitis B, while 300,000 to 800,000 are affected by chronic hepatitis C, a major cause of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. By implementing a hepatitis prevention and control program at the national level, we can significantly reduce the financial burden on the healthcare system, which currently requires an estimated 1.24 million USD for treating chronic HCV infections nationwide according to the Ministry of Public Health.

Closed by Dr. Lalitaya Kongkam, Deputy Secretary-General of Thailand’s National Health Security Office, the Summit aims to address these challenges by fostering partnerships between public and private sectors, identifying gaps in current policies, and sharing best practices to enhance regional efforts.

“The Alliance offers a vital platform for dialogue, enabling stakeholders to work together and synchronize their efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis and enhance public health outcomes throughout the region, “adds Roberta Sarno, Director of the APAC Liver Disease Alliance.

The APAC Liver Disease Alliance is committed to fostering regional cooperation in the fight against hepatitis, serving as a neutral platform for discussions, partnerships, and transformative change, and bringing us closer to a future free of hepatitis.

Shoppers say this vitamin C serum works wonders. (Amazon)

What reviewers say 💬

With over 38,000 Amazon reviewers singing this serum’s praises, it’s fair to say it’s a clear winner.

Pros 👍

“This by far has been my favorite vitamin C serum.” declared one. “I’ve used high-end and drugstore brands and this leaves my skin glowing every time, especially for the price point. It has hyaluronic acid so it hydrates the skin and just leaves my skin feeling supple and soft. I’ve been using it for years and don’t plan to stop!”

It gives a glowing complexion, as another serum convert confirmed: “This stuff is so amazing; after just a couple of weeks of use, I saw such a difference (and I’m 60 years old!). Honestly, I keep touching my face — it’s so smooth and soft and moisturized. But don’t take my word for it: My boyfriend (hey, 60 is the new 40!) regularly tells me how much he ‘loves’ my skin, that my skin is so great.”

“Both my husband and I are using this serum,” a pleased Amazon shopper wrote. “It is moisturizing and my husband says it’s helping with darker pigmentation on his skin. I had a small dry red area and it’s now gone. A little goes a long way, too. My skin tends to be very sensitive and I have no reaction to this. Very happy.”

Cons 👎

As with any vitamin C product, be sure to test it on your skin before using it. This customer said, “I burned my face with this multiple times before finally getting the hang of it. I resisted the urge to quit and spent a couple of months figuring out what makes my sensitive combination skin happy. … This product has made a notable difference in the texture of my skin, it has shrunk my pores and faded my acne scars.”

Another shopper thought the dispenser could use improvement: “I was looking for a new first step in my routine and this serum is a great one! It’s all in one. It has kept my skin looking great and smooth! I love it! Wish it came in a pump tho! Absorbs awesomely too. I then add my moisturizer with SPF then sunscreen to finish up my daily skin routine.”

As face-saving goes, this is a fantastic — and extremely affordable — option.

Sail ship sold out for second straight day in northern Australia

DARWIN, Australia, Oct. 6, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — (ANSA) Darwin – For the second consecutive day, the Amerigo Vespucci was sold out for on-board visits in the port of Darwin, in northern Australia. Thousands of people have been queuing since the morning to admire the Navy training ship, which arrived in the capital of the Northern Territory for the 24th leg of its world tour, which began on July 1, 2023 in Genoa.

To the tune of the greatest hits of Italian music, and under a scorching sun, Australians, tourists but also many Italians who emigrated Down Under were able to visit the ‘most beautiful ship in the world’, remaining fascinated by the timeless beauty of the historic sailing ship. “It’s a floating masterpiece,” said one of the visitors immediately after leaving the ship. “The thing that struck me most – added a citizen of Darwin – are the thousands of ropes that there are for the sails”.

An Australian couple posed for yet another souvenir photo next to Jago’s work “the David” that has accompanied the Vespucci’s world tour since its departure from Genoa.  “Going aboard was a privilege,” they said, “truly beautiful, a unique emotion. We loved it so much and I recommend anyone to go aboard, they will be ecstatic.” The line continued to move uninterruptedly while waiting visitors did not stop taking photos and recording videos.

Visits aboard the Vespucci will continue on Monday, from 9 to 12:30 local time, before the training ship leaves its moorings again to continue towards the next stop on the world tour, which will be in Singapore.

‘Ghostbusters’ firehouse a tourist hot spot as New York’s Bravest fan flames of Hollywood history

0

“Ghostbusters” still guard the streets of Gotham, 40 years after the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man menaced Manhattan.

Comedians Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray starred in the 1984 silver-screen smash hit “Ghostbusters” about a foursome of unlikely heroes who kept New York City safe from a haunting invasion of paranormal phenomena.

The summer blockbuster was the top-grossing movie of the year, spawned a No. 1 hit song, “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr. and turned an old New York City firehouse into a popular tourist destination.

AUTUMN LEAF-PEEPING ALONG NEW YORK’S HUDSON RIVER ‘CHAINED’ TO AMERICAN INDEPENDENCE

“It’s the most famous firehouse in the world,” said FDNY Ladder 8 firefighter Nicholas Vitucci in an interview with Fox News Digital.

“We really appreciate our place in pop culture.”

The Ladder 8 firehouse in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood played a leading role as the headquarters of the “Ghostbusters” team.

The small, one-door beaux-art building is still a working firehouse. It doubles as a celebrity structure attracting a daily stream of film buffs and tourists from around the world

“It’s the most famous firehouse in the world.”

“For the past 40 years, fans have been making the trek to North Moore Street, snapping photos of the building and the company’s logo painted on the sidewalk,” NYCTourism.com reported in March, as the movie comedy franchise welcomed its fourth installment, “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.”

Ladder 8 adopted the famous “Ghostbusters” logo as its unit shield around 2015 or 2016, replacing an octopus icon, said Vitucci. The 8-legged sea creature was a sort of mascot for Ladder 8.

“I’d say since 2021 we really started to embrace the whole ‘Ghostbusters’ image,” added the member of New York’s Bravest.

The pop-culture icon ghost appears on the Ladder 8 truck, uniform patches and hangs from the firehouse facade — in addition to the sidewalk out front.

Tourists by the hundreds stop and snap pictures each day. Ladder 8 has also become a central celebration point for Halloween festivities in Tribeca, said Vitucci.

“It’s not like any other place I’ve worked,” Ladder 8 Lt. Leonard “Lenny” Kinnear told NYC Tourism in May.

“I’ve worked in every borough. No other firehouse has as much civilian interaction,” Kinnear added.

The Ladder 8 imagery is part of a larger tradition that promotes unit cohesion among New York City’s sprawling network of 218 firehouses.

Most units display unique symbols that proudly connect firefighters to their company history, heroes or local landmarks. Pop-culture fame can also play a role.

Engine Company 74 calls itself “The Lost World” with the words in stone-age font on its truck and patches. It’s a tribute to the second entry in the “Jurassic Park” movie series and the firehouse location near the American Museum of Natural History.

Ladder 4/Engine 54 near Broadway is known as the “Pride of Midtown” and decked out with theater motifs. The firehouse famously “Never Missed a Performance.”

The heroic performance cost the lives of 17 firefighters of Ladder 4/Engine 54 at the World Trade Center, according to FDNY officials.

Their names are listed on a theatrical-style marquee in front of the firehouse on busy Eighth Avenue, steps from Times Square and Broadway theaters.

“It just puts you in a different place seeing the names up close,” he said.

In some cases, the unit image is simply a tribute to a local in-house curiosity or idiosyncrasy.

“It’s a great source of pride for the department and, more specifically, for those firehouses.”

The Cavemen of Engine 40/Ladder 35 adopted the name as an inside-joke reference to their famously cramped firehouse at the bottom of a large building, one of the unit members said.

“You know, New York City firehouses have always had monikers or nicknames and it’s just how they kind of identify themselves as a unit,” Jim Long, FDNY deputy commissioner of public information, told Fox News Digital.

“Some firehouses lead with it. Some talk about it more than others. But, you know, it’s a great source of pride for the department and, more specifically, for those firehouses,” Long added.
