World-traveling couple walks across ‘least-visited country’ in under 60 seconds

0

Walking across an entire country sounds like a big feat.

But for one of the smallest nations in the world, it barely takes a minute.

Tuvalu, a Pacific island north of Fiji, is one of the smallest countries in the world, and it’s the “least visited,” according to multiple sources.

The island is only 10 square miles at an elevation of less than 10 feet above sea level, according to National Geographic.

Tuvalu, surrounded by blue waters, was formed around the Te Namo Lagoon, leaving only a ring of land for its less than 12,000 natives.

Hudson and Emily Crider, a married couple from Pennsylvania, are making it their goal to visit every country in the world – and destination No. 183 was Tuvalu.

The couple posted a video to their social media on Sept. 24 stating that they’d be walking across the “entire country,” joking that the trek should only be done by “professionals.”

“Now, if you wanted to, you could walk across an entire country like America, or you could fly to the least visited country in the world, Tuvalu, which also happens to be one of the smallest,” she added.

Emily Crider continued, saying that “in 30 seconds, you can walk across the entire country.”

“We made it!” she exclaimed at the end of the 33-second video.

The Criders told Fox News Digital that Tuvalu is less visited than North Korea, and it takes less than 30 minutes to drive from one end to the other.

The couple described the country as “beautiful, and what makes it even more special is the friendliness of the locals.”

“For anyone interested in traveling here, a highlight is that every evening, hundreds of people gather on the airport runway to play sports,” they said in a joint statement sent via Instagram direct messenger.

“It’s such a special atmosphere to be part of.”

The traveling pair also recommended renting a moped to drive the length of the country.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 2, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Re.juve, a leader in Singapore’s cold pressed juice industry, is delighted to announce the launch of Tropic Joy – the first cold pressed juice of its kind in Singapore. This vibrant new blend features premium green kiwis, strawberries, apples, and beets, delivering a refreshing, nutrient-rich beverage that supports immunity, digestion, and heart health.

Juicing strawberries and kiwis can be challenging due to their lower juice yield and distinct flavours, but Tropic Joy achieves the perfect balance. Thanks to Re.juve’s advanced hydraulic presses, part of our True Cold Pressed Technology, we extract the maximum nutrients from each ingredient while preserving their natural flavours—without adding water, concentrates, sugars, or preservatives.

“Tropic Joy reflects our commitment to innovation and quality,” said Nicholas Johannes, Director of Re.juve Cold Pressed Juice Singapore. “We’ve carefully crafted this blend using premium green kiwis and ripe strawberries—both notoriously difficult to juice—to create something truly special. The result is a delicious, nutrient-packed juice, perfect for all ages, including children who love its sweet, tangy flavour.”

Since its founding, Re.juve has been dedicated to creating 100% natural juices made with fresh ingredients, and Tropic Joy is no exception. Each bottle contains 5.9 grams of dietary fibre and 75.2 mg of vitamin C, helping to meet up to 80% of your daily nutritional needs. This makes Tropic Joy not only a delightful treat but also a wholesome way to boost your intake of essential nutrients.

With its balanced sweetness and kid-friendly ingredients, Tropic Joy has quickly become a favourite among families. Parents can feel confident offering their children a juice that’s both refreshing and packed with health benefits.

Strawberries are known for their short shelf life, making large-scale juicing a challenge. However, Re.juve’s High Pressure Processing (HPP) technology ensures that our juices remain fresh, safe, and nutrient-rich without the use of preservatives. This allows customers to enjoy the vibrant flavours of kiwi and strawberry without compromising on quality.

Tropic Joy is now available exclusively online at www.rejuve.sg, providing consumers with a convenient way to enjoy premium cold pressed juice from the comfort of their homes. Perfect for health-conscious individuals and families, Tropic Joy brings a burst of tropical flavour into everyday life.

As in previous years, the RATIONAL stand will feature cooking shows, where RATIONAL chefs will demonstrate the performance and intelligent functions of the iCombi Pro and iVario Pro cooking systems. The iCombi Pro can effortlessly grill chicken satay, steam cakes or fry sea bass fillets while independently managing the cooking processes for consistent, high-quality results on all racks with its intelligent function. A tip from Mr Lamberti: “Anyone who comes to the show at 3.30pm can taste the lamb, which is cooked for seven hours completely unsupervised.”

The iVario Pro, which replaces tilting pans, kettles, deep-fat fryers and pressure cookers in catering and restaurant industries, will be used live at the show. Demonstrating its high output, flexibility, speed and consistent quality, RATIONAL chefs showcase how they can prepare soy-ginger chicken in just ten minutes on one side of the iVario Pro 2-S two-pan model, while preparing noodles in two minutes on the other. This is the first FHA where RATIONAL Chefs will cook 80kg of curry chicken in under an hour using the iVario Pro L, witness for yourself at the Experience Island at 11:30am daily.

Happy ‘Gilmore Girls’ season! Here are the 7 best fall episodes and where to stream them (for free)

0

The temperature is dropping, the leaves are changing and you know what that means: it’s officially la la la la la, la la la la la season. If the chill in the air has you craving a trip to Stars Hollow these days, you’re not alone. We’ve rounded up some of the best fall episodes of Gilmore Girls for you to stream this season. The cozy series starring Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel and Kelly Bishop has been a staple on Netflix for years. But after Netflix’s infamous password-sharing crackdown, there’s a chance you don’t have reliable access to the former go-to streaming platform these days. If that’s the case, don’t worry, you can still get your Gilmore Girls fix this fall with the help of a VPN. Here are the seven best Gilmore Girls fall episodes, plus how to stream them for free.

Gilmore Girls has been a series staple on Netflix for years, to the point that Netflix is often credited by both the show’s actors and fans alike for reviving the series for a new generation of fans.

Stream on Netflix

But, many who belong to that generation of fans used to rely on their parent’s/friend’s/ex’s Netflix accounts for access to the nostalgically cozy series. So if you’ve lost access to your usual Netflix account in the last few years due to Netflix cracking down on password-sharing, we have a workaround for you so you can watch your favorite fall show without shelling out for Netflix.

Residents of the UK are able to stream all of Gilmore Girls for free on ITVX. Not currently residing in the UK? You can still stream like you do with the help of a VPN.

ExpressVPN offers “internet without borders,” meaning you can tune into international shows, movies and sporting events as opposed to paying for US coverage. All you’ll need to do is sign up for ExpressVPN, change your server location to the country you need and then find the show on the right platform: In this case, that’sITVX, where you’ll need to make a free account and enter a UK postcode (like NW8 9AY or EH1 1JT) to access the series.

ExpressVPN’s added protection, speed and range of location options makes it an excellent choice for first-time VPN users looking to stretch their streaming abilities, plus, it’s Engadget’s top pick for the best streaming VPN. New users can save 49% when they sign up for ExpressVPN’s 12-month subscription. Plus, the service offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, in case you’re nervous about trying a VPN.

From $6.67/month at ExpressVPN

While the entirety of Gilmore Girls is known for its cozy qualities, certain episodes really lean into the autumnal energy. Here are a few of our favorite fall episodes of Gilmore Girls:

Rory has her first kiss with Dean in the aisle with the ant spray (a good aisle) against a gorgeously romantic fall backdrop.

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

Celebrate back-to-school season by watching Lorelai and Rory run away from their problems and hide out at Harvard for an episode. What this one lacks in changing leaves, it makes up for in oversized collegiate sweaters.

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

Yet another slightly more seasonally relevant episode to ring in back-to-school season. Emily and Richard convince Lorelai and Rory to take a tour of Yale. Scheming ensues. You can practically feel the chill in the air through the screen…

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

Obviously, you can’t celebrate fall without including this Thanksgiving episode in your Gilmore Girls binge. The girls have overbooked themselves for Thanksgiving, Sookie is stressed that Jackson wants to deepfry a turkey on their front lawn, Luke is sweet and caring as always and the autumnal decor is bountiful.

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

Now attending Yale, Emily, Richard and Rory convince Lorelai to come to the tailgate for the big Yale vs. Harvard game. If the scarf and sweater-forward costuming in this episode don’t convince you of its fall-forward qualities, the rare mention of football on the series just might.

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

In the darkest era of Gilmore Girls, Lorelai is trying desperately to get Stars Hollow to accept Christopher as her husband. But when Chris fundamentally misunderstands the nature of the knit-athon, she realizes he might be misunderstanding her too.

Stream on Netflix Watch with a VPN

While technically set in the spring, there’s enough hay involved in “Hay Bale Maze” to make it an honorary Gilmore Girls fall episode. Everyone’s getting lost in the hay bale maze, Luke and Lorelai are defrosting their friendship and Rory debuts Logan to Stars Hollow.

With Hurricane Helene disrupting travel, here’s what fliers need to know

0

Sean Rayford | Getty Images News | Getty Images

As the Southeast U.S. recovers in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s destruction, consumers looking to change their air travel plans to or from affected areas without taking a financial hit may be out of luck, experts said.

“The big-picture issue that happens in U.S. air travel: When there is a significant disruption, air passengers have very, very limited rights” when it comes to compensation, said Eric Napoli, chief legal officer at AirHelp, an online service that assists airline passengers.

‘Catastrophic damage’

Asheville Mayor on Helene damage: No neighborhood has been spared, entering a 'desperate' situation

The North Carolina Department of Transportation urged people to avoid unnecessary travel in the western part of the state due to hundreds of road closures from downed trees, landslides and “catastrophic damage.”

What airlines owe passengers

Amid that destruction, travelers hoping to change flights for free or cancel their plans for a refund may find airlines unwilling to grant that financially flexibility.

Airlines do generally owe “prompt” refunds to passengers if they cancel or make a “significant change” to a flight, regardless of the reason, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. That’s true even for consumers with non-refundable tickets.

What Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour says about ‘passion tourism’

However, weather-related events like Hurricane Helene are generally considered to be outside an airline’s control, meaning passengers have relatively few rights to compensation, experts said.

The airline’s duty in such cases generally depends on a passenger’s specific fare, such as economy or business class, Napoli said.

“There’s nothing [airlines] will do for you” if your conference was canceled and you don’t have a ticket that grants free cancellation or comes without fees for changes, he said.

Airlines make concessions in some cases

Some airlines are making concessions tied to Hurricane Helene, though they vary by carrier and geography.

“All the rules are different,” said Sally French, a travel expert at NerdWallet.

Many major U.S. carriers have dedicated webpages for travel alerts outlining their policies around specific events, she said.

For example, American Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines have alerts about flooding in the Southeast. Many focus on areas around Asheville, North Carolina, and some parts of Georgia like the city of Valdosta.

United is waiving change fees and fare differences for passengers whose flight was affected by flooding and who choose to reschedule their flight, for example.

United’s policy comes with parameters: Passengers must have purchased their ticket before Sept. 26, for travel between Sept. 30 and Oct. 31, 2024; the new flight must be a United flight leaving by the end of 2024 and between the same cities as originally booked. Those who cancel can get a full refund.

American Airlines is also giving leeway to passengers scheduled to travel through Augusta, Georgia, between Sept. 29 and Oct. 4. They must book changes by Oct. 4.

Delta passengers scheduled to fly through Asheville or Valdosta must travel on rebooked flights by Oct. 18 to avoid paying a fare difference. Change fees would still be waived past that date, however.

Read the specifics of insurance policies

Travel insurance isn’t always a fail-safe in the event consumers can’t get reimbursed from the travel provider for a flight, hotel or other travel expenses, experts said.

If you didn’t purchase a cancel-for-any-reason policy, your trip problems typically have to fall under specific, covered reasons. Plus, policies bought after Helene became a named storm generally won’t cover claims related to it.

“Make sure you read the fine print and what the insurance is actually covering,” Napoli said.

Consumers who purchased their trip with a credit card may get certain travel reimbursement benefits from their card issuer, sometimes even in the case of severe weather, French said. Credit-card companies generally require a “quick turnaround” on a claim, often within 21 days, she said.

Virginia is first state to make leaf-peeping possible for colorblind guests in every park

0

Many Americans travel near and far to capture views of fall foliage bursting with autumn colors across the U.S.

Deep reds, bright yellow hues, crisp browns and other natural colors are typically the centerpiece of the leaf-peeping season.

But, for those who are colorblind, the thrill of the scenery could be significantly toned down.

For individuals who are colorblind, they are unable to see colors in a typical way and often can’t distinguish between certain colors.

This can happen between greens and reds, and occasionally blues, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

In the retina, there are two types of cells that detect light, and these are known as rods and cones, Natasha Herz, M.D., spokesperson for the American Academy Ophthalmology and an ophthalmologist at Family Eye Care & Surgery in Rockville, Maryland, previously told Fox News Digital.

Cone cells detect color and are concentrated near the center of your vision. The brain uses input from these cone cells to determine color perception, she said.

“Color blindness can happen when one or more of the color cone cells are absent, not working or detect a different color than normal,” Herz said.

About 12 million Americans or 3.7% percent of the U.S. population is colorblind, with 7% being males and 0.4% being females, according to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in New York.

Those with colorblindness often miss the marvel of witnessing the amazing colors of the nature’s beauty, but in Virginia, people who are colorblind can use special viewfinders to capture fall’s beauty.

Here’s what travelers should know.

Virginia State Parks is the first park system in the nation to install EnChroma-adapted viewfinders for colorblind guests at every park, said a news release issued by Virginia State Parks.

The installation of EnChroma-adapted viewfinders at Virginia State Parks started in 2023 with Natural Tunnel State Park in the Commonwealth.

The initiative was led by Chief Ranger Ethan Howes who is colorblind, the same source cited.

“This initiative underscores Virginia’s commitment to enhancing outdoor experiences for all visitors and sets a new standard for state parks nationwide,” said Matt Wells, director of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, which manages Virginia State Parks, said in a statement.

“We’re proud to play a role in opening up a world of vibrant color for colorblind individuals to experience nature like never before.”

To fund the viewfinder initiative, donations were raised through the Round-Up for Parks Program, allowing visitors to donate to Virginia State Parks when making a purchase online or at a park, officials with Virginia State Parks announced.

Since 2018, visitors have donated nearly $300,000, which has been invested in improving offerings and activities, the same statement revealed.

“The EnChroma viewfinders help us create a one-of-a-kind experience for our red-green colorblind visitors and allow them to better enjoy the breathtaking beauty of our state parks,” Virginia State Parks Director Melissa Baker, Ph.D., said in the release.

SINGAPORE, Oct. 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The 15th edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and the 6th edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA, the region’s leading specialist trade fairs for the medical, healthcare, and medical technology (MedTech) sectors, concluded on 13 September, achieving record attendance from both visitors and exhibitors.

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA 2024 welcomed an impressive turnout of 13,725 attendees, marking one of the highest attendee numbers since its first edition in 1997, with over 40% of attendees hailing from outside Singapore. The leading countries represented were Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Located at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, the opening of the two exhibitions was officiated by Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, on 11 September 2024.

Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, Messe Düsseldorf Asia, the organiser of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and co-organiser of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA, said: “We are thrilled with this year’s international turnout and vibrancy on the show floor. In addition to a significant increase in exhibitor participation compared to 2022, we saw a nearly 34% increase in visitors, including group delegations from major hospitals and distributors from neighbouring countries”.

He added: “Southeast Asia’s ageing population and expanding middle class are key drivers of growth in the region’s healthcare industry, and Singapore’s strategic position makes it the ideal gateway for overseas companies looking to enter this booming market. With such strong growth drivers, we are confident the demand for MICE activities in the healthcare sector will continue to expand across the region. Against this backdrop and one of the largest editions of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA, the announcement and launch of the new MEDICARE ASIA umbrella portfolio is perfectly timed.” With MEDICARE ASIA, Messe Düsseldorf is creating an Asia-wide platform for the region’s growing medical technology and rehabilitation market, comprising seven trade shows in China, India, Singapore, and Thailand.

According to Dr. Paiboon Eksaengsri, President of the Private Hospital Association (PHA) Thailand, who was also part of a visiting delegation from the Ramkhamhaeng Hospital group, attending MEDICAL FAIR ASIA in Singapore was an important step in expanding global partnerships and embracing the future of healthcare. He added: “As Thailand continues to grow as a top destination for medical tourism, integration of AI and digitalisation is key to improving patient outcomes and enhancing their overall healthcare experience. While we are long-time supporters of MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND, having a presence at MEDICAL FAIR ASIA enables us to explore broader, regional opportunities, connect with international experts, and stay ahead in the competitive landscape of healthcare innovation.”

This edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA also welcomed 19 national and group pavilions, including Singapore, alongside representation from Denmark, France, Indonesia, Germany, Spain, United States, and others, as well as the first national pavilion from Portugal.

Mangasi Parsaoran Siahaan, Coordinator of Programme and Evaluation, Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia stated: “Indonesian companies have been exhibiting at MEDICAL FAIR ASIA for many years, but this is only the second time our Ministry of Industry has organised a pavilion to support local companies in showcasing sophisticated world-class and high-tech equipment to the rest of the region and beyond. This year’s iteration of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA has been a success, and we hope to return.”

Long-time exhibitor, Austrian-based company, Ing. Sumetzberger, Guenther Neudeck, Sales and Export Manager shared: “Asia has always been a very important market for us, which is why we have been exhibiting in MEDICAL FAIR ASIA for nearly 20 years. We are pleased to see visitors returning in full force this year, compared to the previous edition which took place just after COVID-19 regulations for travel and large gatherings had eased.”

Moon Joon Ho, Chief Marketing Officer at MDA. Co, from South Korea, said: “We participated in MEDICAL FAIR ASIA to secure investors and distributors for the iMirror technology and have been pleased with the attention the technology has received at the show. We will also be participating in MEDICA, which will be taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany in November this year.”

Medical Manufacturing Asia 2024

Jointly organised by Messe Düsseldorf Asia and long-time partner Singapore Precision Engineering and Technology Association (SPETA), Medical Manufacturing Asia has been the premier showcase for the region’s high-value MedTech manufacturers since 2012. The 6th edition of Medical Manufacturing Asia welcomed more than 100 MedTech companies from 15 countries and regions, including national and group pavilions from China, Germany, Japan, and Singapore, with the Singapore pavilion featuring 39 exhibitors.

“As co-organiser, we are proud to showcase the best of Singapore’s MedTech innovation at this year’s edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA. SPETA is deeply committed to fostering the growth and global reach of our precision engineering and MedTech industries, and we look forward to the next edition of MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA in 2026,” shared Wong Anwei, Executive Director at SPETA.

Signature highlights this year also included the well-attended Industry Suppliers Networking session, a collaboration with Singapore’s Economic Development Board, and the IVAM Marketing Award, which was presented to AMT Pte Ltd, a local contract manufacturer who specialises in metal, ceramic and plastic injection moulding and medical device assembly.

Commenting on the exhibition as a networking platform was Simon Tan, Chief Technology Officer of Sunningdale Tech, one of Singapore’s leading precision tooling, plastics injection moulding, and precision assembly companies: “We exhibited at MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA to meet with our existing customers and connect with new ones, and have been pleased with the quality and number of visitors we have encountered during the show, both from Singapore and all over the world.”

MEDICAL FAIR ASIA 2024 – Signature concurrent events and new features

This year’s co-located conferences have focused on the role and impact of AI and digitalisation in the medical and healthcare sectors. As well as signature events such as Start-Up Park and Community Care Pavilion, and conferences such as Paradigm Shift in Healthcare, Wearable Technologies, and MEDICINE+SPORTS, this year’s iteration welcomed the GITEX Digi_Health 5.0 Conference for the first time. Bringing together visionary digital health innovators, government leaders, and industry pioneers, the aim of the conference was to drive digital health innovation in Asia with a tech-first approach.

At the GITEX Digi_Health 5.0 Conference, KAOUN International, represented by its CEO, Trixie LohMirmand, who is also Executive Vice President of Dubai World Trade Centre and organiser of GITEX, along with Messe Düsseldorf Asia, represented by Gernot Ringling, Managing Director, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pave the way for further collaboration between the two industry stalwarts. This agreement includes the launch of the inaugural GITEX Digi_Health 5.0 Expo-Summit in Thailand, which is to be co-located with MEDICAL FAIR THAILAND from 10 to 12 September 2025.

Said Trixie LohMirmand: “The collaboration between GITEX Digi_Health 5.0 Expo-Summit Asia and MEDICAL FAIR ASIA unites the two most influential event brands in the tech and medical industries. This partnership will drive groundbreaking change across the health tech landscape with a new approach for our upcoming editions in Thailand in 2025 and Singapore in 2026. The success of the inaugural conference this year, featuring premier international speakers, dynamic presentations, and high audience engagement, underscores the significance of our efforts. As Southeast Asia’s digital health market continues to emerge as a major engine of economic growth and innovation, we are harnessing the power of AI and technological advancements to build a world-class health tech ecosystem. Together, we aim to catalyse a promising future for patient care and medical breakthroughs in the region.”

The next edition of MEDICAL FAIR ASIA and MEDICAL MANUFACTURING ASIA will take place from 9 to 11 September 2026, at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.
