Xinhua Silk Road: International wine distributor DIVA wraps up 2024 wine futures season

0

BEIJING, July 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — International wine distributor DIVA recently has wrapped up its 2024 wine futures season, better known as “en primeur” season, with comparable results to its presale in last year thanks to its superb product quality.

From middle of June to mid-July, the company managed to weather the ups and downs of the Bordeaux futures market featuring an active European market and lackluster Asian sales and completed presale of over 300 Bordeaux Fine Wine products from reputed local estates.

Over two dozens of Bordeaux Grand Cru Classe 2023 vintages as Bordeaux futures for sale were sold out before being bottled during this year’s “en primeur” season, one of the most important events in the Bordeaux region.

These are largely attributable to Bordeaux vineyards’ efforts to ensure quality of the 2023 vintage last year when local climates turned out less ideal for grape growing than other years.

Despite the fact that renowned vineyards in Bordeaux dropped by 25 percent their wine prices in an attempt to further shore up sales amid the global economic weakness, their bumper harvest in 2023 offset related influences and resulted in the gratifying presale value this year.

Many famous estates such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild and Chateau Mouton Rothschild released their wine futures for the 2023 vintage at prices the same as four years ago, which were welcomed by the market.

Since February, DIVA took part in three wine and spirits exhibitions held in Paris of France, Germany and China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to bring visitors the unique and mellow taste of premier wines from famous vineyards in Bordeaux and other regions.

As a distributor who boasts 40-plus years of wine trade history, DIVA has access to wine futures quotas for more than 300 wines from vineyards famed for wine production in the Bordeaux region.

The Museum of the Bible in the nation’s capital has opened a new exhibit that is offering a dive into the past, present and future of worship.

Titled “All Creation Sings,” the exhibit offers an interactive worship experience that is designed to “enlighten” guests by sharing the diversity, development and history of the practice of worship, according to museum staff.

Garrett Hinton, chief revenue officer at the Museum of the Bible, told Fox News Digital in an emailed statement that worship is more than just “the thing that we do at church on Sundays before the pastor gets up and gives the sermon.”

“As the Bible talks about worship, it’s so much more than that. So the story is the story of the Bible — and it’s taking you from Creation or Genesis all the way to Revelation,” said Hinton.

The name of the experience comes from Psalm 148.

“Let them praise the name of the Lord: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven.”

“All Creation Sings” takes museum visitors through four different parts, answering the question, “What is worship?”

The first act begins by recounting the story of creation.

“Worship is our purpose. That’s what we’re created for. So, God created us, and he created our universe. That’s where it all starts,” said Matthias Walther, chief marketing officer at the Museum of the Bible.

“And I think to discover this — to see the greatness of our Creation, the greatness of God’s design in our existence — it takes you to a humble, really reflective place.”

Act two explores “the development of the art of worship and its expression through numerous media,” according to the press release.

The third act highlights the power of scripture, detailing how the Bible shapes lives and societies.

The “All Creation Sings” exhibit is now open. “This state-of-the-art attraction” allows visitors to “soar across the Sea of Galilee, climb the stairs to the Temple Mount, explore the path of the good Samaritan and visit the Church of the Holy Sepulchre during midnight services,” according to the Museum of the Bible.  (Museum of the Bible)

Finally, the last act will help guests imagine “the future reality where all creation participates in joyful worship.”

The 6,500-square-foot exhibit is using innovative equipment such as scanning technology, projectors and responsive software to help guests worship as never before, the museum says.

Lunit’s AI Solution Enhances Qatar’s National Breast Cancer Screening Program

  • Middle East’s first full-scale AI adoption for national screening marks Lunit’s latest milestone amid rapid expansion of global cancer screening initiatives

SEOUL, South Korea, July 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Lunit, a leading provider of AI-powered solutions for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, today announced the implementation of its AI-powered breast cancer detection solution, Lunit INSIGHT MMG, in Qatar’s national breast cancer screening program. This marks the first nationwide adoption of AI in a national-level breast screening workflow in the Middle East. The partnership, set for an initial period of five years, demonstrates a long-term commitment to advancing breast cancer screening in Qatar.

Lunit successfully integrated Lunit INSIGHT MMG into the "Screen for Life" program of Qatar's Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC)
Lunit successfully integrated Lunit INSIGHT MMG into the “Screen for Life” program of Qatar’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC)

Starting June 2024, Qatar’s Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has integrated Lunit INSIGHT MMG into its “Screen for Life” program, the country’s national breast and bowel cancer screening initiative. The AI solution aims to enhance early detection of breast cancer, potentially reducing missed diagnoses and improving survival rates in Qatar’s triennial screening program.

“Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Qatar, accounting for 32% of all female cancer cases[1],” said Dr. Sheikha Abu Sheikha, Director of Early Detection Programs at PHCC. “To address this, we’re integrating Lunit’s AI as a crucial second opinion for our radiologists. As the first country in the Middle East to implement AI across the entire screening program, we’re reinforcing Qatar’s commitment to high-quality healthcare for women across the country.”

The implementation follows a successful retrospective validation phase that began in March 2023. Satisfied with the performance and added value, two radiologists now read each mammogram while referring to Lunit INSIGHT MMG’s results, improving accuracy and efficiency in the screening process.

Lunit’s success in Qatar is part of a broader trend of the company’s expansion in business-to-government (B2G) cancer screening initiatives worldwide. Notable recent deployments include:

  • Australia: Supplying Lunit INSIGHT MMG to BreastScreen New South Wales
  • Sweden: Delivering Lunit INSIGHT MMG to Capio S:t Göran Hospital, marking the first instance where AI replaced one human reader in breast screening
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Providing the Lunit INSIGHT suite to Seha Virtual Hospital, connecting over 150 hospitals
  • Iceland: Implementing Lunit INSIGHT MMG for national breast screening, the first European country to deploy AI for the entire population

“Our collaboration with Qatar’s PHCC for the ‘Screen for Life’ will equip healthcare providers with a powerful new tool to enhance medical diagnostics,” said Brandon Suh, CEO of Lunit. “As we expand into national screening programs worldwide, we’re enhancing early cancer detection and reshaping preventive care. Each implementation brings us closer to our vision of making AI-assisted cancer screening more accurate and accessible to people around the world, regardless of their location.”

The “Screen for Life” program, implemented by Qatar’s PHCC, is a national initiative offering free breast and bowel cancer screening to eligible residents. This cornerstone of Qatar’s public health strategy aims to promote early detection through education, awareness, and accessible screening services.

Korean Air orders at least 40 Boeing wide-body planes in a vote of confidence for the manufacturer

0

A Boeing 777X airplane takes off during its first test flight from the company’s plant in Everett, Washington, January 25, 2020.

Terray Sylvester | Reuters

FARNBOROUGH, England — Boeing won orders for at least 40 wide-body jetliners from Korean Air, including the yet-to-be-certified 777X jetliner, in a vote of confidence for the struggling manufacturer.

The order, announced at the Farnborough Airshow outside of London, includes 20 777X planes, the largest in Boeing’s commercial jet lineup, and 20 787-10 Dreamliner planes, both long-range jets. The airline can also upsize its order for 10 more of the Dreamliners, the biggest option for that model.

Korean Air CEO Walter Cho said he expected to start receiving the planes later this decade.

The twin-engine 777X is years behind schedule but earlier this month began certification flight tests with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, a major milestone.

Boeing customers have been grappling with delayed aircraft, in part due to post-Covid supply chain snarls that have hit the aerospace industry, but also related to a safety crisis and manufacturing flaws, particularly after a door plug blow out earlier this year on one of its smaller and bestselling 737 Max planes.

“If I wasn’t assured, I would not have ordered it,” Cho said at a news conference of Korean Air’s order. “I know Boeing will pull through whatever it is they’re going through right now, and I have full confidence in Boeing.”

The airline, a partner of Delta Air Lines, earlier this year also ordered competing Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, the largest of that type.

“Whichever comes first will become our flagship, whoever’s on time,” Cho said.

Nature Study Reveals: AI and Molecular Dynamics Designed BGM0504 Exhibits Superior Potency

0

SHANGHAI, July 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The molecular design strategy and experimental results of Bright Gene’s dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist, BGM0504, have been published online in Scientific Reports, a sub-journal of Nature, on July 19, 2024. Bright Gene (Stock Code: 688166.SH) is an innovative pharmaceutical company emerging on the international stage, is focused on developing best-in-class pharmaceuticals to improve patient health globally.

The article, titled “Molecular Dynamics Guided Optimization of BGM0504 Enhances Dual Target Agonism for Combating Diabetes and Obesity”, presents the findings of BGM0504’s development.

BGM0504, an AI-assisted designed dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, demonstrates superior efficacy in both in vitro and in vivo experiments. Using AI-driven computer simulations, Bright Gene has discovered that optimal interaction between the glutamate residues on both GLP-1R and GIPR and the K20 residue of a peptide agonist provide superior activity. This interaction is a key insight not evident in cryo-EM studies. BGM0504 was designed to preserve the free amino group of the K20 residue by shifting the acylation point to position 40 of BGM0504. This design resulted in a 3-fold increase in agonistic effects on GLP-1R and GIPR, with superior therapeutic outcomes in diabetic and obesity mouse models.

About Bright Gene and BGM0504

Bright Gene (Stock Code: 688166.SH) is an innovative pharmaceutical company focused on developing best-in-class pharmaceuticals. The company integrates APIs and formulations, combining generic and innovative drugs to meet global clinical needs. BGM0504 is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist for treating type 2 diabetes, obesity, and NASH, currently in the late stages of Phase II clinical trials.

This crossbody bag was my travel VIP in Italy — grab it for as low as $24

0

The summer travel season is in full swing and we are ready to pack our bags. Whether you’re hopping a plane and leaving the country or simply driving to your favorite campsite for the weekend, you need the right luggage. And that’s where this crossbody comes in handy — and at a very reasonable price.

I recently embarked on an adventure across Italy, where I was able to test what shoppers have called “the perfect solution” for on-the-go storage: the Waterfly Crossbody Sling Backpack. And readers, I’m here to say that this bag is indeed ideal for day-tripping through theme parks, tourist hotspots and so much more. Right now, you can get Amazon’s No. 1 bestselling super sling for as low as $24.

$24 at Amazon

Why is this a good deal?💰

Right now, you can score this travel buddy for $24, down from $35 (don’t miss the on-page coupon), and I can assure you that it’s more than worth it. It’s available in 20 colors, but we also haven’t seen this crossbody marked down any lower since January. (Note that prices vary by color.) Now’s the time to grab one at a savings if you’re getting ready to hit the road.

Why do I need this? 🤔

This crossbody backpack was the only “purse” I brought on our whirlwind trip through Italy — including Rome, Cinque Terre, Florence and Pompeii — and it held up incredibly through our 10-day adventure. That’s no small feat: It was fairly drizzly most of the time we were there, and on certain days, we walked 20,000 steps or more. The bag not only had to stand up to wet conditions, but the rigors of heavy use: me constantly putting it on and taking it off, adjusting the strap and opening it multiple times a day. I also had to carry enough items to get me through up to 12 hours of sightseeing.

And folks: It performed marvelously.

The real value here: The level of organization and storage space afforded by such a deceptively sleek, compact bag. There are a ton of compartments: a larger main zipper compartment, a slide-in pocket that clips shut with the bag, a small zipper compartment on the front, two side mesh water bottle holders, a small zipped pocket on the strap and more. With all of these, I was able to stay prepared for anything. Some days I was able to fit a travel umbrella, reusable water bottle, wallet, passport, guidebook (thanks, Rick Steves), snacks, sunglasses, shawl, Kindle, external battery and extra cords, earbuds, iPhone, toiletries and medications, selfie stick and even more. Phew! That’s a wild amount considering the bag isn’t exactly massive at 15 by 7 by 3.5 inches.

Oh, yeah: It was comfortable. The shoulder strap is well-padded, but if your shoulder ever gets tired, the bag converts into a fanny pack (it’s not necessarily made to do this, but it works perfectly well). It also washes easily — my trusty Sugar-Free Red Bull spilled in one of the pockets, but I simply rinsed out the bag at our hotel and let it air dry, and it was totally fine by the next day.

What reviewers say 💬

Over 30,000 Amazon reviewers have also given the Waterfly Crossbody Sling Backpack a travel-ready five-star rating, with many highlighting its size, compartments and lack of bulk.

Pros 👍

“I bought this bag for a trip to Universal Orlando with my son for his 11th birthday. This bag was perfect!” raved one shopper. “It held everything we needed: snacks, ponchos, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, wipes, and even water bottles (I used 9-ounce S’Well bottles, which I highly recommend). I even put a pair of plastic Birkenstocks one day for the water rides. The pouch on the strap fit my iPhone 15 Pro as well as my sunglasses.”

One Disneyphile shared: “Based off of multiple positive recommendations from various Disney blogs and discussion boards, I bought this for my trip to Disneyland. It was truly the perfect size, with just enough storage to hold everything I needed it to hold. … You can easily slip it on and off; with a quick change of the clips, you can switch which shoulder it’s on. You can wear it across your front or your back. It’s sturdy and keeps the contents inside dry in the rain or on a wet ride at a park. … I highly recommend this pack, and that is from someone who also owns other day packs from Osprey and Camelback.”

“As a frequent traveler, especially now in retirement, finding the perfect bag for my needs has been a priority,” wrote another fan. “This backpack is impeccably designed, striking the right balance between size and functionality. … It’s a reliable travel companion, making organization and accessibility a breeze.”

Cons 👎

One Disney dad gave the bag a five-star rating but noted some areas where even this fan favorite could be improved: “One: Add a flap, latch, elastic strap or something similar on those outside mesh pouches so that nothing can fall out. Two: Add a second clip (like the one for keys), buried in the ‘roof’ of the main pouch or elsewhere so I can clip an Apple AirTag to it.”

Another shopper wrote: “Is a great purse for traveling. My only wish is that the phone pocket on the strap could adjust its position.”

Amazon

The Waterfly has a ton of compartments, including a front zipper pocket, a mesh water bottle holder and a shoulder strap phone pocket.

Boeing ‘disappointed’ customers but is on the path to ‘transformational change,’ commercial jet CEO says

LONDON — Boeing‘s output of 737 Max planes is showing signs of improvement, the new head of its commercial unit said ahead of a major air show on Sunday, while admitting that the manufacturer has “disappointed” customers with delayed planes.

Boeing is trying to get past several safety and manufacturing crises, including the midair door plug blow out in January, which have slowed deliveries of planes to airlines and prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to increase its oversight of the storied manufacturer.

Stephanie Pope, in her first press conference since taking over the key role at the troubled aircraft manufacturer in March, reiterated that Boeing has committed to increasing production of the Max to 38 a month. Production slipped into the mid-20s per month in the first half of the year, analysts have said.

Pope said Boeing is on the right path to improving its manufacturing quality, safety and predictability of deliveries, a “transformational change” that she said will take years.

“It still doesn’t take away the reality that we’ve disappointed” our customers, she said at a press conference before the Farnborough Airshow, outside of London. “We’ve impacted their business and we haven’t met the commitments and lived up to being the partner that they expect and they need us to be.”

Boeing has unveiled a host of goals aimed at getting it back on the right path, like improving worker training and manufacturing processes, among others. In the spring it delivered an improvement plan to the FAA that the agency ordered after the blowout in January.

“This plan is not a three month plan,” said Pope. “I call it transformational because some of these actions will take years.”

As part of the leadership shakeup that promoted Pope to head the commercial unit, Boeing’s CEO Dave Calhoun said he would step down by year’s end.

When asked whether she was interested in the role, Pope said she is focused on the commercial unit’s recovery.

“That is my priority,” she said.

Boeing’s problems aren’t limited to its commercial program, however. Its defense unit has also been grappling with delays, including of the money-losing and delayed modification of two Boeing 747s that will serve as the next two Air Force One aircraft.

The CEO of that unit, Ted Colbert, said Boeing continues “to fight through some of the challenges that really stemmed from challenges in the supply chain.”

Boeing reports quarterly results on July 31 and is set to report charges from that unit, Colbert said at the same press conference.
