My 63-year-old mom won’t stop talking about this 4-in-1 blush for mature skin

0

For as long as I can remember, my mom has kept her makeup routine simple. Her trusty cosmetics bag includes the same liquid eyeliner, brown mascara, concealer and powdered foundation that she’s been using for decades. Basically, she’s never strayed from her tried-and-true products — until she discovered the Boom! by Cindy Joseph Boomstick. Now she refuses to talk about anything else. Seriously, she brings it up in every conversation — and rightfully so. Since using it, she’s achieved that fresh-faced, dewy glow that we’re all chasing.

Amazon

Use this creamy formula pretty much anywhere that needs a subtle glow. “This … Boom is the bomb,” said one fan.

The Boomstick is a true multipurpose product. You can use it on your eyes, lips and cheeks to simplify your routine — which is exactly what my mom does.

Some quick context on Boom! by Cindy Joseph: The brand is geared toward women with mature skin. However, the makeup is designed to celebrate and enhance a woman’s natural beauty at every age — instead of trying to camouflage fine lines, wrinkles and other “flaws.” Made with skin-loving ingredients like moisturizing shea butter, hydrating jojoba oil and smoothing candelilla wax, it won’t settle into fine lines or look cakey on dry skin.

The brand recommends dabbing the Boomstick directly on your cheeks, lips, décolletage and anywhere else you want a natural flush. Blend it in (my mom just uses her fingers) and voilà! The rich berry shade is designed to flatter all skin tones, and it’s sheer enough so you can customize the color depending on how much you apply.

It’s not just my mom who carries the Boomstick wherever she goes — nearly 10,000 Amazon shoppers have crowned it with a five-star rating (many with pictures included).

This reviewer declared that it’s the “only blush” they use. Meanwhile, another shopper notes that they “get a lot of compliments on [their] healthy appearance,” and one shared that they’re “over 70 and love the look of this.” This five-star Amazon customer added: “I love how a single product can add color to your skin. Totally great. Just try it.”

“Since using Boom, I will not go back to full-face makeup,” said another enthusiastic reviewer. “When I use other makeup than Boom, it settles into the lines and creases in my face, accentuating them. Boom gives me just enough color. Love it. I smear it on my lips as well.”

If you’re stressed about the idea of a universally flattering berry shade, don’t be. “I was put off at first because I was afraid the color was too dark,” explained one Boomstick fan. “When I actually tried it, I was very impressed. The color looks very natural after you blend it in. I also use it on my lips for a pop of color. Love it. I may order a second one just to keep in my purse.”

Some shoppers stress that they would like more staying power, however. “If one wants an all-day blush color without having to reapply, this is not for you,” said this reviewer. “However, if you need a quick and natural look, just reapply it throughout the day like one might their lipstick. I keep an extra tube in my purse and reapply if need be.”

Amazon

Not into the berry? Cindy Joseph also dropped the Boomstick in this dusty rose shade.

July 4th is among the patriotic annual U.S. holidays when Americans across the country celebrate the nation’s independence.

Patriotism is defined as “the quality of being patriotic; devotion to and vigorous support for one’s country” by the Oxford Dictionary — and this year the day will be celebrated no differently.

WalletHub analyzed all 50 states to see which were the most patriotic based on a number of factors.

3 GREAT AMERICAN CITIES FOR HISTORY BUFFS AND PATRIOTIC TRAVELERS THIS SUMMER

States were ranked based on military engagement, such as the number of veterans per 1,000 civilian adults, active-duty military personnel and more.

They were also ranked on civic engagement, such as volunteer rate, trial and grand jury participation, U.S. history education requirements, plus the number of adults who voted in the 2020 presidential election.

Analyst Cassandra Happe of WalletHub, which is headquartered in Miami, Florida, said these factors weighed heavily on the patriotism rankings for the states.

“The most patriotic states have a lot of residents who serve or have served in the armed forces, high voter turnouts during elections and a high share of the population volunteering with national and local organizations,” she said in a media statement.

She continued, “Patriotism also isn’t concentrated in any one particular area. The top states are located in vastly different geographic regions.”

1. Virginia

Virginia, with its close proximity to Washington, D.C., was named the most patriotic U.S. state, according to WalletHub, for its high number of active-duty military personnel and veterans in the area, plus other factors.

WalletHub noted that 71.5% of Virginia’s residents voted in the 2020 presidential election compared to the national average of 67%, which also contributed to the state’s high ranking.

“For every 100,000 civilians in Virginia, there are nearly 1,900 active-duty military personnel, the third-most in the country,” said WalletHub in its report.

In Virginia, 71.5% of residents voted in the 2020 presidential election compared to the national average of 67%.

“And for every 1,000 civilians, there are around 107 veterans, the second-most in the country.”

It also said, “To top things off, Virginia has the seventh-highest number of Peace Corps volunteers per capita, and it is one of the many states that require courses in U.S. history or civics for high school graduation.”

Alaska ranked second and Montana ranked third.

Alaska showed high numbers of jury service participation, while Montana showed a large volunteer rate among the public.

The highest veterans per capita resided in Alaska — while the lowest numbers resided in New Jersey, per WalletHub.

Vice Secretary of Taicang Municipal Committee and the mayor, Xu Huadong stated, “In recent years, Taicang has forged a strong partnership with Fosun International to develop the largest indoor ski resort in East China. The launch of the Taicang Alps Resort has been a resounding success, quickly establishing itself as a leading ice and snow tourism destination in the Yangtze River Delta. It has received frequent praise on CCTV, substantially increasing Taicang’s fame and attracting a surge in visitors. Ice and snow tourism is an emerging sector within the travel industry. Building on this momentum, both parties are now preparing for the Phase II project. This strategic expansion is set to reinforce Taicang’s position as a leader in the ice and snow market of the Yangtze River Delta, enhancing its reputation as a premier ‘ice and snow world’ destination in the southern region. Taicang is fully committed to advancing the Phase II construction with dedication, aiming to create new landmarks in ice and snow tourism. This initiative will elevate the city’s status as a key hub for the ice and snow industry and strategically develop a comprehensive tourism plan. Our vision is to transform Taicang into a captivating leisure destination within the Yangtze River Delta, where every location offers picturesque views, convenience, and memorable experiences.”

Creating a “World-Class Ski Resort,” Phase II Construction Officially Launched

Taicang Alps Resort Phase II project is funded by the Taicang Municipal Government and managed by the Fosun Tourism Group. Guided by its mission to become the largest-scale one-stop snow-themed resort destination, the Phase II project aims to set several world records in ski resorts, including the longest indoor ski slope and the most comprehensive entertainment facilities.

The ski resort will cover a total area of approximately 190,000 square meters, potentially making it the largest indoor ski resort in the world. With its design inspired by “Xiangyun Ruyi” (Auspicious Clouds), it echoes the “Snow Ruyi” of the Beijing Winter Olympics’ Zhangjiakou outdoor ski resorts, setting a new trend in China’s ski industry. The ski resort will feature three slopes: a snowboard slope, an intermediate slope, and an advanced slope. Skiers of all levels can enjoy a total slope length of 1,700 meters, including a 690-meter single slope with a vertical drop of 120 meters.

In addition, the Phase II project will include snow-view hotels and themed hotels, offering a variety of themed rooms to create an immersive accommodation experience. The resort will also feature a comprehensive range of facilities, including a water park, a land park, hot springs, an aquarium, and dining shows. Along with activities like dome walking, bungee jumping, and interactive light shows, the resort will offer a rich and diverse one-stop ski experience.

Promoting the Popularization of Winter Sports and High-Quality Development of the Ice-Snow Economy

In recent years, China has continuously released several positive signals in support of the development of the ice-snow industry through providing policy support and planning guidance. As part of its “Several Measures to Stimulate Tourism Consumption Potential and Promote High-Quality Development of the Tourism Industry” published in September 2023, the State Council recommended: “Develop the ice-snow economy, promote the entire industrial chain of winter sports, equipment, and tourism, and strengthen ski resorts.” China’s expanding winter sports consumer base is driving rising market demand. The ice-snow tourism industry has evolved from solely ticket sales to a diversified consumption model, with ice-snow products advanced from sport and sightseeing attributes to a vacation model integrating sports, tourism, and entertainment.

As a model of vacation ice-snow products, Taicang Alps Resort continuously optimizes and upgrades its ice-snow experience in response to the call to “engaging 300 million people in ice and snow activities” initiative. The Phase II project will provide year-round fun for professional skiers and unique snow-themed leisure vacation experiences for tourists. There will be a diverse array of formats available in Phase I and Phase II that will meet the needs of all ages.

Since its opening, the Alps International Resort Phase I has garnered approximately 320,000 visitors. With the launch of the Phase II project, Taicang Alps Resort is moving closer to its goal of becoming the “world’s leading and largest indoor ice-snow vacation and entertainment destination.” The successful operation of Phase I provides confidence and motivation for the Phase II project, supporting Taicang’s development into a world-class ice-snow industry hub. The resort will foster a robust winter sports and related industries, with an all-encompassing ice and snow industry chain. This initiative aims to propel Taicang into a new era of dual-driven development – “the home of German enterprises” and “the city of ice and snow”. The goal is to establish a globally recognized one-stop destination for winter sports tourism.

The signing of this project marks a significant milestone for Fosun Tourism Group in implementing its asset-light strategy. As one of the earliest Chinese companies venturing overseas, Fosun Tourism Group has accumulated extensive industry experience and built a professional team over the years through the introduction of globally recognized IPs. In early 2023, Fosun committed to an asset-light approach for future endeavors, prioritizing enhancement in product, brand, service, and experience. Fosun Tourism Group’s fiscal year 2023 performance revealed ongoing shifts in revenue profile, with tourism operation revenue soaring beyond 93% while real estate rose fractionally to under 7%. This transition epitomizes Fosun’s evolution towards a predominantly asset-light business model.

In the realm of ice and snow, Fosun Tourism Group has established both indoor and outdoor infrastructure, allowing for diverse ski experiences. Notably, Alps Snow Live offers indoor experience, while Club Med operates three outdoor ski resorts in China – at Yabuli, Beidahu, and Changbaishan. As a global leading brand in winter tourism, Club Med currently operates 25 outdoor ski resorts worldwide, spanning renowned destinations such as the Alps, Hokkaido, and Quebec.

Xu Xiaoliang, Co-CEO of Fosun International and Chairman of the Board of Fosun Tourism Group, stated: “As a key snow-themed one-stop high-end urban resort destination created by Fosun Tourism Group, Taicang Alps Resort has quickly become a popular destination for families and young people in the Yangtze River Delta region since its opening in November 2023. The signing of the Phase II project not only demonstrates our leadership in the ice-snow industry but also represents a significant milestone in Fosun Tourism Group’s light asset operation strategy. In the future, Fosun Tourism Group will continue to leverage its global resources and industry operation capabilities in the ice-snow industry, bringing more engaging and diversified ice-snow vacation experiences to tourists nationwide while promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Delta’s cultural and tourism industry.”

Pie Medical Imaging announces enrollment completion of the FASTIII clinical trial

MAASTRICHT, Netherlands, June 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Pie Medical Imaging, a global leader in cardiac imaging, announced the completion of enrollment in FASTIII, a multi-center randomized clinical trial, which investigates the use of angiography-based vessel fractional flow reserve (CAAS vFFR) in patients undergoing coronary revascularization procedures.  vFFR can assess whether a coronary artery narrowing is functionally significant and may require revascularization.

CAAS vFFR Software
CAAS vFFR Software

FASTIII is the largest non-inferiority trial running (having enrolled 2228 patients), in which an angiographically derived vFFR guided strategy is compared to a FFR guided strategy to guide coronary revascularization. The primary endpoint is a composite of all-cause death, any myocardial infarction, or any revascularization at 1-year post randomization.

Following the tremendous efforts of the principal investigator, Dr Joost Daemen (cardiologist at Thoraxcenter at the Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands), over 35 participating centers and ECRI (sponsor of the trial), the patient enrollment has concluded.

“The FASTIII trial is aimed to establish the role of vFFR to coronary revascularization in patients with intermediate coronary artery lesions. An important milestone was reached Friday, May 31st, 2024, when the last patient was enrolled”, said Joost Daemen Principal Investigator of the trial. “The next phase will consist of close follow-up of all patients who generously agreed to participate in the important trial. We hope to present our findings by the end of 2025″.

Additionally,

“PMI is committed to providing clinicians and patients with long-term coronary data to inform their treatment decisions, ” said René Guillaume, Managing Director at Pie Medical Imaging. “Our prior studies have shown diagnostic accuracy and reproducibility of vFFR calculation”. FASTIII will establish its role in routine clinical practice.

The trial is funded by research grants from Pie Medical Imaging (Maastricht, The Netherlands) and Siemens Healthineers (Erlangen, Germany). The study is sponsored by ECRI (European Cardiovascular Research Institute, Rotterdam-the Netherlands). Cardialysis (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) is responsible for trial services including trial management and Core Laboratory activities.

High-Quality Healthcare Without the High Costs: Shenzhen TreeENT Attracts Numerous Hong Kong Clients with Outstanding Value

0

HONG KONG, June 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — With the continuous improvement of mainland China’s healthcare standards, advantages such as expert consultations, no long waiting times, and affordable costs have attracted many Hong Kong residents to seek medical care in Shenzhen. Recently, Shenzhen TreeENT has been highly praised by Hong Kong residents. Many netizens on social media recommend TreeENT, noting that it provides medical services on par with those in Hong Kong, especially in addressing long waiting times and high costs for ENT specialists. For Hong Kong residents who face difficulties in booking appointments, long specialist waiting times, and high medical costs, TreeENT offers an efficient and affordable new option for their ENT health issues.

In Hong Kong, where the cost of living is relatively high, both public and private healthcare systems, despite offering extensive services, often frustrate residents with difficult appointment scheduling, long wait times, and high costs. Especially for specialist and day surgeries, patients often face prolonged waits. During holidays, the waiting time for emergency services exceeds 8 hours, and ENT patients sometimes wait up to two years for an initial consultation. Recent data shows that in the past 12 months (from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024), there were 10,000 new appointment cases for ENT specialist outpatient services. Facing these challenges, more Hong Kong residents are seeking medical services in other regions of the Greater Bay Area for a better experience and value.

Located in Futian, Shenzhen, TreeENT Health (abbreviated as TreeENT) is a medical institution within the Greater Bay Area’s one-hour medical circle, specializing in ENT diagnostics, minimally invasive surgery, and chronic disease management. TreeENT, with its advanced equipment and professional team, provides medical services of the same standard as Hong Kong, making it the preferred choice for many Hong Kong residents with sensory health issues.

In terms of cost, TreeENT’s value significantly surpasses that of medical services in Hong Kong. For example, ENT diagnosis in Hong Kong’s private hospitals generally start at HKD 1,000, with complete treatment costs starting at least HKD 50,000. At TreeENT, the specialist consultation fee is only RMB 380 (approximately HKD 430), with routine consultation costs around RMB 2,000 (approximately HKD 2,100), and surgery costs averaging RMB 40,000 (approximately HKD 43,100). This means that Hong Kong residents opting for TreeENT can significantly reduce their medical expenses, saving up to 70%. Moreover, TreeENT can quickly schedule surgeries within days, significantly shortening patient waiting times, which is hard to achieve in major Hong Kong hospitals.

Adhering to the core values of “Safe • Efficient and Warm,” TreeENT implements an efficient appointment system to reduce patient waiting times. For instance, TreeENT’s dedicated customer service can complete an appointment for a patient in just one minute. Upon arrival, patients can enjoy a professional consultation and examination within one hour. If surgery is needed, it can be arranged within a week, with same-day discharge. Because of the efficient appointment system, TreeENT’s doctors have more time to communicate with patients, ensuring each patient receives more comprehensive and personalized medical services.

Located in the core of the Greater Bay Area, TreeENT in Shenzhen leverages its convenient geographical advantage and advanced medical technology to provide high-quality medical services quickly accessible to Hong Kong residents. Just an hour’s drive away, Hong Kong residents can reach the clinic for treatment. Whether it is rhinitis, snoring, sleep apnea, ear infections, hearing loss, or other complex ENT issues, TreeENT can provide professional diagnosis and effective treatment.

In summary, for Hong Kong residents, choosing TreeENT Health in Shenzhen not only eliminates long wait times and high medical costs but also offers professional and attentive services. With its comprehensive services and warm environment, TreeENT has become the preferred medical institution for Greater Bay Area residents from Hong Kong, thoroughly addressing the challenges faced in the local healthcare system.

Iceland wants to switch up its tourism tax to protect nature — and fight overtourism

Iceland wants tourists to flock to its bubbling hot springs, picturesque ice caps and lunar-like lava landscapes — but not at the expense of its residents or natural environment.

The tiny Nordic country known for fire and ice is not alone. From Amsterdam to Venice, hot spots across the globe have brought in measures to try to crack down on the negative impacts of overtourism, while retaining what is often a hugely significant source of income.

“We are trying still to mold the taxation system for the tourism sector for the future,” Iceland’s Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson told CNBC via videoconference.

“We would like to lean more towards a system where the user pays. As I see it, we would want to go more toward accession fees to the magnets, as we call them, around the country,” Benediktsson said.

“By doing that, we could control traffic. So, at the height of demand, we could have a higher tax where we could control by amending the fees both within the day or between months, or during parts of the year. But this is still in the making.”

Iceland’s government reinstated its so-called tourism tax at the start of the year, seeking to raise funds for sustainability programs and mitigate the environmental impact of mass tourism.

The levy, which was suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic, applies a nominal fee of 600 Icelandic krona ($4.34) to hotel rooms, with varying costs also applied to campsites, mobile homes and cruise ships.

Benediktsson described his predecessor’s reintroduction of the tourism tax as an “important decision” for the country. However, he says the government needs to go further to find the right balance.

As head of Iceland’s pro-business, right-wing Independence Party, Benediktsson replaced Katrin Jakobsdóttir as prime minister in early April. He previously served as prime minister in 2017.

His second stint as the country’s leader comes at a time when the country grapples with soaring interest rates, high inflation and a series of volcanic eruptions.

Late last month, a volcano in southwestern Iceland erupted for the fifth time since December, spewing lava that once again threatened the coastal town of Grindavik.

The seismic activity also forced the evacuation of one of the country’s most visited sites, the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. The lagoon has since reopened to tourists after authorities said the eruption had stabilized.

Booming tourism revenues

Iceland’s tourism sector has come roaring back from a dip during the coronavirus pandemic. The country — which has a population of around 383,000 — expects to receive 2.3 million visitors this year, nearly 2.4 million in 2025 and as many as 2.5 million in 2026.

The revenue generated by tourism has been increasingly important to Iceland’s economy.

Indeed, the tourism sector accounted for 8.5% of its gross domestic product in 2023, according to Statistics Iceland, citing preliminary figures of the Tourism Satellite Accounts. That’s up from 7.5% in 2022 and exceeds the 8.2% average recorded during the pre-Covid period of 2016 through to 2019.

Looking ahead, Benediktsson said the government was working with its own “sustainability balance check” to develop its tourism taxation system.

“We came up with a system under which we look at certain indicators: Is nature in balance in a certain spot? Is society happy with the development? Is that on a green, yellow or red light?” Benediktsson said.

“If we see that places are being damaged by the number of people that visit let’s say at Geysir where we have the hot springs, we need to take action,” he added.

“Those are the things we are trying to develop, and we are trying to follow the indicators and make sure that the industry grows in good acceptance with society but also with nature.”
