Walmart’s 40+ best weekend deals: Samsung, Ninja, Dyson and more

0

It’s the weekend, which means you’ve likely got all manner of things on your sked — fun things (pool party! woodsy hike! seaside sunbathing!), necessary things (mow that lawn! clean those gutters! wash that car!), family things (movie night! backyard barbecue! baseball!). We’d like to add one more that clicks all those boxes: signing up for Walmart+! It’s your ticket to Walmart+ Week 2024, the sprawling members-only sales spectacular that starts on Monday and runs through June 23. You’ll want to make sure you’re in the club and ready to click when the action starts.

For now, though, back to our regularly scheduled awesomeness — aka Walmart’s can’t-miss spread of weekend deals and steals, like this brawny, all-business robovac for just $130 (nearly 60% off!), a family-size swimming pool for a stupefying $180, and classic, built-to-last Adirondack chairs on offer at a 70%-plus markdown! ‘Comfy, cool and doesn’t wrinkle’: Right now this breezy summer top is just $30

0

We are ready to dive into summer — sunny days are shouting at us to make the most of them while we can. Of course, summer means hot weather and if you’re transitioning your wardrobe, there are two adjectives to keep in mind when restocking your closet: lightweight and breathable. If it can be worn during the high-noon heat and the evening chill, even better. Well, we’ve been digging through Amazon’s deals and uncovered a breezy button-down: the Astylish Button-Down Top. It comes in dozens of colors and patterns, and right now, it’s on sale for as low as $30, down from $70 — that’s nearly 60% off.

Amazom

Flowy, breezy and comes in more than 30 colors and patterns — you’ll live in this top all summer long.

$30 at Amazon

While this top has gone on sale a few times over the last few months, $30 — nearly 60% off — is among the best prices you’ll be able to find until the weather cools down. And while prices range by color, you won’t pay much more to achieve that buttoned-down chic in the coming months (and beyond).

We know what you’re thinking: long sleeves during the summer? You bet! It’s so lightweight, that you won’t overheat even on the hottest days, and it can shield you from the sun. It also has plenty of give, making the sleeves easy to roll up if you prefer a cuffed finish. And with a stylishly oversized fit, it’s loose and lovely regardless of what else you’re wearing. We love how it drapes and, thanks to a poly-spandex blend, it won’t bunch or wrinkle. And it’s soft against the skin, unlike traditional linen, which can feel coarse and itchy.

This top comes in over 30 colors and patterns, so it’s no wonder shoppers are buying multiples. Wear it with jeans, shorts or draped over a summer dress. And, if you want, it can double as a swimsuit coverup as well.

This linen-style top promises to keep you cool and A-stylish all summer. (Amazon)

More than 6,000 Amazon shoppers have given this five out of five stars and say it’s a high-quality purchase.

“I love this blouse,” said this shopper. “The fit is loose without looking too boxy and true to size. The fabric is soft, light and flowy, and super comfortable. Tucked in or loose, open front or layered over another shirt, it looks trendy and cute.”

“Normally I am an XL kind of gal, but I decided to size up for a more relaxed fit. I am so glad I did!” shared one happy customer. “The shirt is super comfortable and I was hoping for more of that sexy look like on the model. While I didn’t hit the sexy look on the head, I feel like I came close. This shirt was just long enough to cover the belly and not look frumpy.”

Reported another fan: “Comfy, cool, not clingy and doesn’t wrinkle! I always get compliments wearing it.”

Some shoppers warn that the sleeves run a bit short. “It would get five stars if it weren’t that the sleeves are probably four inches too short on me,” said one four-star reviewer. “Fits perfectly on my torso and in overall length, but the sleeves end literally three inches above my wrist, so I’ll have to always wear it with them rolled. Despite this, I’ll probably get another as it is really cute and versatile.”

“I am tall and with that comes long arms and long torso,” explained one buyer. “The sleeves are a little short, but not bad enough to return it, and the length of the shirt itself works.”

“I love the way this shirt fits,” said another shopper who sized up. “The shirt is well-fitted through the shoulders and chest, with just enough room for my chubby upper arms to be comfortable and move freely while I move around… The sleeve length is fine for me, but barely — they border on too short.”

Amazon

Wear it to the pool, the office or the grocery store — it’s the wear-everywhere shirt you’ll reach for again and again.

CARsgen Presents First-in-human Results of GPRC5D Targeting CAR-T CT071 at EHA 2024

0

SHANGHAI, June 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — CARsgen Therapeutics Holdings Limited (Stock Code: 2171.HK), a company focused on innovative CAR T-cell therapies for the treatment of hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, announces that the initial results from the ongoing first-in-human study of CT071 have been presented at the 29th Annual Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA).

The preliminary results of Phase I of CT071 (NCT05838131) were presented as a poster at the 29th EHA Annual Congress on June 14, 18:00 – 19:00 CEST, which was titled “First-in-human study of GPRC5D-targeted CAR T cells (CT071) with an accelerated manufacturing process in patients with relapsed/ refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM)”.[1]

“Multiple myeloma is a common yet incurable hematologic malignancy with high unmet need. Despite the numerous recent advances, most patients relapse and become refractory to available therapies and therefore, novel therapies are needed. GPRC5D, a protein highly expressed on the surface of malignant plasma cells with limited expression on normal tissues, represents a promising target for treating multiple myeloma. CT071 is a fully human GPRC5D-targeting autologous second-generation CAR T-cell product manufactured using our expedited CARcelerateTM platform that shortens the manufacturing time to around 30 hours, supporting a shorter vein-to-vein time and younger T cells. The preliminary results of the ongoing study presented at EHA shows that CT071 has the potential to be the best-in-class GPRC5D targeting CAR-T therapy,” said Raffaele Baffa, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer of CARsgen Therapeutics. “We are excited about advancing CT071 and look forward to sharing future updates with the medical community.”

As of February 28, 2024, 10 patients were dosed with CT071—7 patients at 1.0×105 cells/kg and 3 patients at 3.0×105 cells/kg. Among them, 80% had high-risk cytogenetics, 30% had one or more extramedullary plasmacytomas (EMD), and 40% were at R-ISS stage III. This was a heavily pre-treated population with a median of 5 prior lines of therapy, including 90% double-class refractory, 70% triple-class refractory, 40% penta-drug refractory, 50% having received autologous stem cell transplantation, and 20% had previously been treated with BCMA/CD19 dual-targeting CAR T cells. None of the patients on the study required bridging therapy due to rapid manufacturing turnaround.

The median follow-up at the time of data cut-off was 4.07 months (range: 2.8-7.4). There were no Grade 3 or higher cytokine release syndrome (CRS) events. No immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) was observed. No adverse events of special interest or dose limiting toxicity (DLT) occurred. Four patients experienced treatment-related SAE, including pneumonia (n=1), decreased appetite (n=1) and thrombocytopenia (n=2), and all recovered.

The overall response rate was 90%, including 5 patients (50%) with stringent complete response (sCR), 2 patients (20%) with very good partial response (VGPR), and 2 patients (20%) with partial response (PR). All the 9 patients with evaluable MRD assessment at Week 4 achieved MRD negativity (10-6 threshold) ), including all 5 patients with sCR/CR. The pharmacokinetic analysis demonstrated robust cell expansion and persistence, with median Tmax of 14 days (range: 12-28) and median Cmax of 32280.5 copies/μg gDNA (range: 8372-106060).

About CT071
CT071 is a CAR T-cell therapy candidate developed utilizing CARsgen’s proprietary CARcelerateTM platform targeting GPRC5D for the treatment of R/R MM or relapsed/refractory plasma cell leukemia (“R/R PCL”). An investigator-initiated trial (NCT05838131) is ongoing in China to evaluate the safety and efficacy of CT071 for the treatment of R/R MM or R/R PCL. Another investigator-initiated trial (NCT06407947) is ongoing in China for the treatment of newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM).

About CARsgen Therapeutics Holdings Limited

Many sources consider San Miguel Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico to be the oldest church in the country.

Since its original creation, around 1610, the church has been home to many events, including religious services, ceremonies, celebrations and more.

1. What is San Miguel Chapel famous for?

The San Miguel Chapel is famous for being known as the oldest church in the United States.

The church is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

It was constructed “under the direction of Franciscan friars to serve a small congregation of soldiers, laborers, and Indians who lived in the Barrio de Analco,” per the church’s website.

The first historical written record of the church dates back to 1628.

Yet many believe that the construction of the church dates back even further, according to the San Miguel Chapel website, with oral history putting the church’s creation around 1610, in tandem with the founding of Santa Fe.

The chapel was dedicated to Archangel Michael.

A statue of him stands at the site of the church today, according to U.S. News & World Report.

2. What happened to San Miguel Chapel?

San Miguel Chapel has undergone reconstruction over the years.

Documentation retained by the church, according to its website, shows that the chapel was heavily damaged, including the roof being burned during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, also known as Popé’s Rebellion.

Visitors can view the 780 pound San Jose Bell that used to be in the bell tower.

In 1710, San Miguel Chapel was rebuilt. Further repairs funded by the mayor of Santa Fe were done in 1798, according to the church’s website.

The community came together in 1887 for another rebuild when the church was in need of so many repairs, it was nearly demolished.

Additionally, guests can view the 780 pound San Jose Bell that used to be in the bell tower.

HAIKOU, China, June 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — A report from Hainan International Media Center:

Recently, a delegation from China’s southern Hainan Province visited South Korea and the United States for economic, trade and cultural exchange activities. By promoting the policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) and displaying the high-quality development results, Hainan has deepened economic, trade, tourism, and cultural ties with the two countries, signing agreements related to cultural tourism, medical & healthcare services, green and low carbon development, high-end consumption, new technology, and financial investment.

Attending the 19th Jeju Forum and the 9th Trilateral Summit Meeting among China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, delegation members from the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting Workation Projects” with the Jeju Tourism Exchange Bureau to further strengthen the island province’s tourism cooperation with Jeju, promote tourism standards, customer source sharing and mutual delivery, and joint marketing of tourism products. A series of activities will be held next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sister province relationship between Hainan and Jeju.

British couple traveling to Spain mistakenly flown to Lithuania after being escorted to wrong plane

0

A British couple planning to travel to Spain for a family vacation was instead flown 1,500 miles away to Lithuania after airport staff escorted them to the wrong aircraft.

Andrew and Victoria Gore, both 47, intended to board a flight to Barcelona and then head to Costa Brava on May 25 to celebrate Mr. Gore’s 47th birthday. But they boarded the wrong flight with the budget airline Ryanair, as the rest of their family made it to Barcelona, according to BBC News.

The couple told BBC News they were feeling “distraught” after the mixup, which they described as a “nightmare.”

“We were told they were definitely on the flight and they said ‘just relax’, so we had a sleep as we’d been up early,” Mr. Gore told the outlet. “When I woke up, it didn’t look like Spain out the window, I turned my phone on and it said ‘Welcome to Lithuania.'”

Mr. Gore, an amputee, and Mrs. Gore, who is autistic, ended up on a flight to Kaunas, Lithuania, after booking special assistance at Bristol Airport in England. Passengers with disabilities or reduced mobility are legally entitled to special assistance at airports without additional charge when traveling from various regions, including the U.K. and the U.S.

“We have been away lots of times and always had special assistance, so this was nothing new to us,” Mrs. Gore told BBC News. “The minibus took us to the Ryanair plane and they checked our boarding pass and let us on the plane.”

Bristol Airport said it was working to investigate what happened and to make improvements to ensure this type of incident does not happen again, while Ryanair said crews make several announcements before departure about the flight destination and attributed the error to Bristol Airport’s special assistance provider, BBC News reported.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said that Bristol Airport’s special assistance provider boarded the couple onto the wrong flight to Kaunas “despite gate signage clearly displaying the flight’s destination.”

“Before departing, crew make several announcements advising passengers of the flight’s destination,” the spokesperson said, adding that they “sincerely apologize to these passengers for any inconvenience.”

A Bristol Airport spokesperson said: “We’ve worked with our business partners to investigate this incident. All customers have their travel documentation checked by the airline or their ground handling agent before boarding an aircraft.”

“Since being informed of the issue, Bristol Airport has worked with our airline handling agent and special assistance provider to investigate the circumstances and to introduce improvements for the future,” the spokesperson added. “We will contact the customer with information to direct their complaint to the correct business partner for resolution.”

“Our flight number came up at the gate, and we were taken to the bottom of the plane steps, where the ground staff checked our boarding passes,” Mr. Gore said. “When we got on the plane, the stewardess checked our passes again.”

After alerting Ryanair officials that they were in the wrong country, they were booked on the next available flight to Barcelona, which was not until the next morning and from Riga in the neighboring country of Latvia.

The airline booked the couple overnight accommodation and a 150-mile Uber ride to the airport.

They eventually landed in Barcelona and made it to their hotel on the Costa Brava, but their bags did not make it until two days later, the outlet noted, since they did not board their initial flight from Bristol, England.

“It was surreal, and an experience I never want to have ever again. Our family were worried sick, and we were exhausted when we did eventually arrive,” Mr. Gore said. “Even though they took us to the right place eventually, the experience had already happened, the damage had been done, and we can’t forget those worrying moments.”

‘We got our yard back’: This fan-favorite bug zapper is $30 at Amazon

0

It’s an unfortunate side effect of hanging outdoors: Bugs are everywhere. Mosquitoes, gnats, flies and their ilk all have a funny way of showing up exactly when you’re trying to kick back and relax. Their hovering and buzzing and swarming is annoying enough … but then they swoop down and bite, leaving you itchy and aggravated. With the official start of summer days away, you may already have seen a lot of these alfresco scourges. If not, don’t worry — they’re coming. Would you like to avoid a summer spent slathering on icky insect repellent and/or cortisone cream? Try a bug zapper. Would you like to score a killer unit at half price? Try this bug zapper!

Amazon

The Klahaite uses blue-violet light to attract mosquitoes, gnats, flies and more, before taking them out — so you can enjoy your time outdoors.

Why is this a good deal? 💰

The first official day of summer is still a few days away, so now is the time to take advantage of deals like this so you can save before demand — and prices — increase. This zapper is 50% off. That puts it on par with (or less expensive than) a lot of other options on the market.

Why do I need this? 🤔

The Klahaite Bug Zapper lets you take out all manner of flying fauna without the use of pesticides. It uses blue-violet light to attract mosquitoes, gnats, aedes, midges, moths, flies, fruit flies, wasps and pretty much any other flying insect, before delivering a fatal shock.

It can cover up to 2,100 square feet, making it far-reaching enough for just about any patio, garden or yard, and it’s way simple to install: You can hang it on a tree or plop it on pretty much any flat surface around your house; then, just plug it into a 120-volt outlet, flip it on and let it get to work. There’s a built-in removable tray at the bottom for easy cleaning (and insect carcass disposal).

This zapper is waterproof, so you don’t need to stress about leaving it outside. Not only that: Got fruit flies? You can use it inside too!

If the thought of all this electrified extermination’s got you worried about safety, don’t: The device has a protective cage to shield people and pets from shocks.

We hear there’s a lot of buzz around this product. But seriously: Grab one now, because you shouldn’t be the main course at your backyard barbecue. (Amazon)

What reviewers say 💬

More than 4,600 Amazon shoppers rave about the Klahaite bug zapper.

Pros 👍

One homeowner said that this thing is seriously bad news…for bugs. “Works amazingly,” said a five-star fan. “Kind of scary how many it kills.”

Consider this testimonial from a satisfied shopper: “I stopped hanging out in my yard because of mosquitoes (don’t want to use chemicals), so I decided to purchase this. We threw a backyard party recently and not one bite. Not one person complained about them! We got our yard back.”

If you hate bugs with the fury of a thousand burning suns, then this is the gadget for you. “If you like the satisfaction of hearing a zapping sound on every slightest contact, this is for you! Just knowing that the bugs are being drawn to this machine and not around me is worth every zap-popping sound!”

Cons 👎

You might not want to use this is an enclosed area. Fried skeeter isn’t a popular perfume choice: “Yes, the smell isn’t the best if you use it in close vicinity of where you’re gathering (in my case, near the patio/fire pit area), but I’d rather smell “fried” critter than wind up with tons of bug bites!”

And while you might get satisfaction from the sound of deep-friend blood-suckers, your four-legged friends might not. “The only downside is my dog gets scared when it makes a zapping sound and runs back inside.”

Amazon

Just plug it in wherever you need coverage. It can offer protection for up to 2,100 square feet!
