Delta to launch premium economy service on NYC-LA flights in air travel upsell race

Delta Air Lines said Monday that it will bring its premium economy service to transcontinental flights in September, its latest attempt to boost sales of higher-priced tickets to customers willing to splurge for more space and perks.

Premium economy is a relatively new class of service that major airlines offer on longer, mostly international flights. It sits between first or business class and the rest of economy and can command a ticket price often twice as much as standard coach.

Delta and its rivals like United are locked in an arms race to outfit planes with more premium seating, upgrade lounges and sell more rewards cards to capitalize on higher-spending travelers, while airfare overall slips. JetBlue Airways this year said its turnaround plan will emphasize profitable routes that offer its Mint business-class cabin. Even Southwest Airlines, under pressure to increase revenue, is considering a more expensive seat on its planes, breaking from its decades-old business model.

Ticket revenue from Delta’s main cabin rose 4% in the first quarter to $5.4 billion from a year ago, while premium-product revenue came in 10% higher at $4.4 billion.

The added service will start Sept. 10 on four of 11 peak-day flights between Los Angeles and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Boeing 767s. Delta said it plans to expand service later this year.

Delta customers who purchase standard economy tickets will be able to pay for upgrades to premium economy on the transcontinental flights.

Delta said Medallion elite members of its loyalty program, will be eligible for complimentary upgrades to so-called Delta Premium Select, but they will also be able to list for upgrades to its top-tier Delta One product on those flights.

Some of Delta’s planes flying some routes previously had premium economy seats on them, but the carrier wasn’t offering the service that comes along with it, like amenities kits, noise-canceling headphones, a full meal and a blanket. The seats were sold as extra legroom tickets, which are a rung below premium economy.

Some American Airlines‘ shorter domestic flights operate a similar model, featuring lie-flat seats but not the Flagship service offered on international flights.

Amazon Prime Day 2024: Everything we know about the sale in July and Amazon deals to shop now

0

July is getting ever closer and, with it, Amazon Prime Day — the retailer’s annual summer savings spectacular where you can score a ton of top sellers across categories at a mega markdown, from beauty and home to tech and outdoors and oh so much more. In past years, we’ve seen deals numbering in the thousands for the two-day event, so to make the most of the experience (and the discounts!), it’s important to plan ahead if you want to make every dollar count… and that’s where we come in. To ensure you’re properly prepped, we’re sharing everything we know now about Amazon Prime Day 2024, including a few early Prime Day deals you can “Add to Cart” right this moment. Read on for the scoop!

Amazon hasn’t released the official dates of their Prime Day sales event for 2024, but we do know that it will once again be sometime in July. Last year’s summer Prime Day ran from Tuesday, July 11 to Wednesday, July 12. July Prime Day was set on a Tuesday and Wednesday in 2022, as well. So the smart money’s on another round of mid-week madness. In any case, you don’t have to wait to start shopping markdowns — keep on scrolling to see some of our fave items that are already on sale at Amazon.

Amazon Prime Day, a tradition that the retailer launched in July 2015, is a massive site-wide savings event exclusive only to Amazon Prime subscribers. If you’re not yet a member, don’t sweat it — You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $25 or more all year ’round.) Not ready to join the club yet? Well, you can sign up for Amazon Prime at any time, including during PD itself. Along with the exclusive savings, you’ll also be able to take advantage of benefits like free shipping.

Information on specific markdowns is soon to come, but we already have a tantalizing taste of the deals in store at Amazon Prime Day 2024. They include sweet savings on timely categories like warm-weather fashion finds, outdoor must-haves, and classics like electronics and kitchenware. Plus, it’s almost guaranteed that the retailer will be offering big deals on their house-brand products, like Kindle, Fire TV, Echo, Ring and more.

Like last year’s Prime Days, we’re expecting mega markdowns on big brands like Apple, Ninja and Samsung, along with discounts on Yahoo reader favorites and highly reviewed bestsellers. Unlike Black Friday, where holiday shopping reigns supreme, Prime Day is particularly well-timed for checking a host of items off your own list, like travel necessities, summer-entertaining supplies, and upgrades for the home, office and even your beauty routine.

Stick with us here at Yahoo to stay apprised of all the emerging deals for Amazon Prime Day 2024. We’ll have category experts on deck to keep you up to date on all the marked-down must-haves. We’ll also be comparing prices with other retailers (and delving into price histories), so you can be sure you’re getting actual deals — and this coverage will extend throughout all of Amazon Prime Day, so check back often for updates.

Plenty of other online retailers try to get in on the savings action, so sales will often start a little earlier at places like Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Sephora and more. We also know that Walmart’s own version of the event, Walmart+ Week, will be hitting on June 17 and lasting through June 23. Like Prime Day, this event is exclusively for Walmart+ members — becoming a member couldn’t be easier; simply click here and you’ll have the option to start with a free 30-day trial to see how you like it.

Prime Day deals technically won’t be live until July. However, Amazon is already rolling out impressive early markdowns as a lead-up to Prime Day. Snap up these steals now.

Octapharma’s continuing dedication to improving the lives of people with rare bleeding disorders to be showcased at ISTH 2024

0
  • Octapharma to present new clinical and scientific findings for wilate® and Nuwiq® at the upcoming ISTH 2024 Congress
  • New data and clinical study developments to be showcased in seven oral presentations, two posters and two Supported Symposia

LACHEN, Switzerland, June 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The most recent developments from Octapharma’s Haematology portfolio will be presented at the 32nd Congress of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) on June 22–26, 2024, in Bangkok, Thailand. The data will be featured in seven oral presentations, two poster presentations and two Supported Symposia during this key international meeting. Octapharma is a proud Silver Supporter of the ISTH 2024 Congress. Octapharma will also present the offer in modern solutions for acute bleeding and coagulation management in critical and intensive care.

Bleeding disorders, such as haemophilia A and von Willebrand disease (VWD), carry the risk of recurrent and prolonged bleeds, which can not only be life-threatening but also take a heavy toll on patients’ quality of life and mental health.

The presentations at ISTH 2024 reflect Octapharma’s long-term commitment to improving patient care and addressing unmet clinical needs.

“Octapharma is excited to present our latest findings and study results from across our haematology and critical care portfolios at ISTH 2024.” said Olaf Walter, Board Member at Octapharma. “Bleeding and coagulation disorder patients continue to face many challenges in their day-to-day care and bleeding management. Here at Octapharma we remain dedicated to frontline research towards improving patients’ lives.”

Oral Presentations

Although prophylaxis is the standard of care for severe haemophilia A, it remains underutilised in VWD. WIL-31, the largest study in VWD prophylaxis, demonstrated the safety and efficacy of prophylaxis with a plasma-derived von Willebrand factor/factor VIII concentrate (wilate®) in patients with VWD. The lead investigator, Dr Robert F. Sidonio Jr., will present sub-analyses of data from the study which explore differences in bleed sites across VWD types and age groups. Prophylaxis was well-tolerated across all age groups in the 22 VWD type 3 patients who were included in the analysis population.

MOTIVATE is an ongoing, international, investigator-initiated study supported through funding from Octapharma AG, evaluating the management of haemophilia A patients with inhibitors. Dr Carmen Escuriola-Ettingshausen, one of the study’s coordinating investigators, will present an interim analysis of the study.

Haemophilic arthropathy is a serious complication of haemophilia A and early diagnosis is critical to minimise its long-term impact. A proof-of-concept study has identified a signature of several circulating small non-coding microRNAs, which may be used as biomarkers to assist in the diagnosis of haemophilic arthropathy. Future work will investigate microRNAs associated with earlier stages of the condition in a sub-study of the PROVE clinical trial.

Altered microvascular endothelial functionality has been observed in haemophilia A patients. Indeed, impaired tubulogenesis, migration and permeability of endothelial cells from haemophilia A patients has been observed, compared to those from healthy patients. New data will be presented showing that Nuwiq® can bind to endothelial cell surfaces, improving their functionality.

FVIII physically interacts with platelets following vascular injury to ensure efficient clot formation. Different FVIII modifications may impact platelet binding and downstream signalling. Data will be presented showing that Nuwiq® exhibits significantly higher binding to platelets compared to comparator products, and that these differences in platelet binding may impact the efficacy of different rFVIII products in the treatment of haemophilia A.

The oral presentations are scheduled at the following times:

Sunday June 23

  • OC 27.5: Impact of differential binding of recombinant factor VIII concentrates to platelets on platelet clotting functionality.
Presenting author: Viola Vogel. 15:45–16:00 ICT, Room 210 A-D

Monday June 24

  • OC 35.1: Factor VIII regulates extracellular matrix proteins to stimulate angiogenesis and vessel stability.
Presenting author: Alessia Cucci. 9:30–9:45 ICT, Room 110 A-C
  • OC 36.4: miRNA expression profiles as a potential biomarker of joint and bone health in haemophilia A.
Presenting author: Yesim Dargaud. 10:15–10:30 ICT, Room 111 A-C
  • OC 36.5: Factor VIII is a regulator of angiogenesis and a promoter of endothelial barrier stability.
Presenting author: Antonia Follenzi. 10:30–10:45 ICT, Room 111 A-C

Tuesday June 25

  • OC 63.4: Bleeding Sites in von Willebrand Disease Patients on Prophylaxis with a Plasma-derived von Willebrand Factor/Factor VIII Concentrate – A Sub-Analysis of Data from the WIL-31 Study.
Presenting author: Robert F Sidonio Jr. 15:30–15:45 ICT, Ballroom B3
  • OC 61.4: Immune tolerance induction (ITI) strategies in haemophilia A patients with inhibitors – Interim analysis from the MOTIVATE study.
Presenting author: Carmen Escuriola-Ettingshausen. 15:45–16:00 ICT, Ballroom B1

Wednesday June 26

  • OC 73.5: Efficacy and Safety of Prophylaxis with a Plasma-derived von Willebrand Factor/Factor VIII Concentrate in Type 3 Patients with von Willebrand Disease – A Sub-Analysis of Data from the WIL-31 Study.
Presenting author: Robert F Sidonio Jr. 11:15–11:30 ICT, Ballroom B4

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are scheduled at the following times:

Sunday June 23

  • PB 0251 – Indirect comparison of prophylaxis efficacy between simoctocog alfa and efanesoctocog alfa in severe hemophilia A and their cost in the United States.
Presenting author: Craig M. Kessler. 13:45–14:45 ICT, Exhibition Hall

Tuesday June 25

  • PB 1102 – Covalently linked complexes of coagulation factor VIII and von Willebrand factor fragment display increased stability and half-life in animal models and retain their function.
Presenting author: Barbara Solecka-Witulska. 13:45–14:45 ICT, Exhibition Hall

Supported Symposia

Two Supported Symposia during the Congress will share new clinical and scientific data, providing updates on ongoing and new studies in the fields of haemophilia A and VWD.

Octapharma’s Symposium on haemophilia A this year is dedicated to cutting-edge research committed to bleed protection. Speakers will present the first results from the MOTIVATE study interim analysis and introduce the PROVE study investigating bone and joint health. This symposium will also explore the critical role of FVIII binding to platelets and endothelial cells in haemophilia A.

This symposium will explore the critical role of prophylaxis in severe VWD. Topics presented will include the importance of prophylaxis and how to identify patients who may benefit from prophylactic treatment. Key lessons from the WIL-31 VWD prophylaxis study will be shared as well as the important role for prophylaxis in the management of heavy menstrual bleeding in women with VWD. Optimising care during pregnancy will also be discussed and the VIP and EMPOWER studies will be introduced.

Both symposia will be open to congress participants in Bangkok and will be live streamed for participants not directly attending the Congress.  An opportunity to ask questions will be available at both symposia.

Larisa Belyanskaya, SVP and Head of IBU Haematology at Octapharma commented:

“We are excited to present new insights from the WIL-31 data, and  will take a deep dive into the importance of prophylaxis for specific patient groups, as well as discussing important clinical and scientific questions with the goal of improving the quality of life for people with von Willebrand disease and haemophilia A.”

FDA Grants Fast Track Designation to GCBP and Novel Pharma’s GC1130A

0
  • FDA’s Fast Track designation speeds up the development of new biologic drugs for rare diseases

YONGIN, South Korea, June 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — GC Biopharma (006280. KS) and Novel Pharma have announced that the U.S. FDA has granted Fast Track Designation for their jointly developed MPSIIIA (Sanfilippo syndrome Type A) treatment, GC1130A.

This designation follows the FDA’s clearance of the investigational new drug (IND) application for GC1130A last month. With Fast Track Designation, the development process for GC1130A is set to be expedited.

About Sanfilippo Syndrome Type A

Sanfilippo syndrome Type A is a rare genetic disorder that causes central nervous system damage through the accumulation of heparan sulfate, leading to progressive neurological decline. Without treatment, patients face life-threatening complications by the age of 15. GC1130A represents a potential breakthrough as the first and only treatment option specifically targeting MPSIIIA.

GC1130A

GC1130A is a biological drug that is being developed using high-concentration protein formulation technology, designed for administration to the central nervous system. It is delivered directly into the brain’s ventricles through intracerebroventricular (ICV) injection, a method first applied globally by GC Biopharma’s Hunter syndrome treatment, ‘Hunterase’, which has received market approval in Japan.

The potential of GC1130A to meet the unmet medical needs of Sanfilippo syndrome has been recognized by major drug regulatory agencies; in 2023, the FDA granted GC1130A Rare Pediatric Disease Designation (RPDD) and Orphan Drug Disease (ODD), and earlier this year, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) also granted GC1130A ODD status.

Currently, GC Biopharma and Novel Pharma are preparing to initiate a multinational first-in-human clinical trial to evaluate the safety and tolerability of GC1130A in Korea, the US, and Japan.

FDA’s Fast Track Program

U.S. FDA’s Fast Track program is designed to expedite the development and review of drugs intended to treat serious or unmet medical needs. Fast Track designation provides extensive support, including frequent meetings with the FDA throughout the drug development, clinical, and approval stages.

GC Biopharma and Novel Pharma stated, “We are pleased with the FDA’s decision to grant Fast Track designation for GC1130A, especially given the lack of approved treatments for Sanfilippo syndrome.” The company added, “This designation will enable us to accelerate the development of this new drug, bringing hope to patients and families affected by Sanfilippo syndrome.”

This comfy floating recliner is like a ‘La-Z-Boy for the pool’ — it’s just $30

0

Can you feel that? Summer heat is here and we’re ready to soak it up. If you’re one of the lucky people who can cool off at a pool or lake, accessorizing has never been so fun. Sure, those colorful floats and noodles are fun for the kids, but come adult swim time? Having an inflatable armchair to lounge in is the move — and we’ve got just the one. The Intex Floating Recliner is your ticket to relaxation this summer, with its cushy design and (dual!) cup holders. Oh, and did we mention you can snag it for just $30 at Amazon? Let’s dive in!

Amazon

With all due respect to the armchair in your living room, this inflatable recliner is what you need to be lounging in.

$30 at Amazon

Swimming is fun, but sometimes you just don’t feel like getting wet. If it’s a comfortable floating sesh you’re seeking, look no further. This inflatable chaise has a puffy back and armrests, and its contoured design will make you feel like you’re relaxing in your favorite chair — perfectly suited for enjoying a good beach read. However, its best features are arguably those dual cup holders. Could there be anything more luxurious than lounging in a pool with not one, but two refreshing beverages on hand? Tell the kids to go splash somewhere else — it’s time for R&R: Water Edition!

Made of sturdy vinyl, this durable float can be used in both lakes and pools, and its strong handles will make you feel secure, even if the waters get a little choppy. (Again, kids, enough with the splashing!) There’s an included repair patch juuust in case, and at just seven pounds, it’s also tres portable, making it perfect for that weekend lake vacay. You’re sure to be the envy of every swimmer there!

The only thing you’ll be searching for during Marco Polo is this cushy pool float. (Amazon)

With nearly 13,000 five-star seals of approval, the Intex Floating Recliner is a bona fide hit with Amazon customers — and for good reason!

One shopper accurately described it as a “La-Z-Boy for the pool!” while another wrote, “It has exceeded my expectations. The lounge is large enough to comfortably fit an adult and provides a spacious relaxing place to float in the pool or lake. The recliner design is fantastic, as it allows you to lean back and relax while keeping your head and feet elevated about the water.”

Several shoppers praised this recliner’s design, specifically its cup holders. Some noted, though, that they would have loved one tiny tweak. “Cup holders could be a bit wider, but overall, this is the only float for [my boyfriend],” another honest reviewer wrote. “Want a strong but bougie float? This is it.”

One more reviewer had the right idea when purchasing this float — and we think lots of shoppers can relate. “I ordered this float for cooler days when I want to get in the pool but not get super wet,” a five-star fan wrote. “It’s perfect for that! My dog gets on it with me and we float around the pool.”

Intex

Have a pool buddy? They’ll love you forever for including them in the fun with this two-pack.

And since we’re all about chillaxing this summer … how ’bout a zero-effort inflation method? The highly rated Flextailgear Tiny Pump does the job in no time, is on sale for $28 and is perfect for on-the-go:

At just two inches long, this small yet mighty inflator blows up everything from pool floats to air mattresses with the touch of a button. It includes five nozzles to fit whatever you’re inflating and recharges via USB.

4 tips and tricks for flying with checked bags: ‘Luggage will get lost’

0

With summer travel already in full swing, Fox News Digital spoke to experts to learn some of their tricks and tips for making sure that a checked bag arrives safely to its destination.

Airports are busier than they have been in years, meaning there are a lot more people who will be checking bags on their flights.

Here is what travel experts recommend doing — and avoiding — so that a vacation does not begin by waiting in a line at a lost luggage office at the airport.

5 SECRET SUMMER-TRAVEL PACKING HACKS TO MAXIMIZE CARRY-ON SPACE AND MINIMIZE STRESS

Check out these four tips.

1. Fly direct if possible

Direct flights are the best bet if you want your luggage to get to the right destination,” Richard Campbell, founder of Calgary-based travel company 10Adventures, told Fox News Digital via email.

If a direct flight is not possible and a bag has to be checked, Campbell recommended having at least 90 minutes between flights.

To avoid losing checked bags, fly direct if possible, said one travel expert — or at the very least, do not book a tight connection.  (Dustin Chambers/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

“If I have two or more stopovers, I assume I won’t get my luggage when I get to my final destination,” he said.

Nikita Kosholkin, co-founder and CMO of the tool App in the Air, told Fox News Digital that he personally is OK with a 45-minute layover, but also noted, “It’s better if it’s over an hour.”

TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY? IT COULD BE ILLEGAL TO BRING ALONG THESE MEDICATIONS, ACCORDING TO A PHARMACIST

“There is a limited amount of time that a bag can actually travel due to logistics at the airport,” he said.

“Even if you can make your next flight, your bag might not.”

2. Don’t overpack

Packing lightly, even for a checked bag, can actually help ensure that a bag makes it to its destination, Jeremy Murchland, president of Seven Corners Travel Insurance, told Fox News Digital. The company is based in Indiana

A person who overpacks may wind up scrambling at the check-in gate to make sure a bag is under the weight limit — something Murchland said is “just asking for problems.”

Airport travelers

Overweight bags can be taken to a different part of the airport, an expert told Fox News Digital — increasing the chance that it will get lost. (Mario Tama/Getty Images)

“You’ll lose items in the shuffle or perhaps damage them if they aren’t repacked securely. Plus, you’re now stuck juggling loose belongings that you might not have even needed in the first place,” he said.

Additionally, a bag that is oversized or heavy is not treated the same way as standard-sized bags, he said. Instead, it will be picked up at a different location at baggage claim.

SUMMER TRAVEL: HOW TO PACK A CARRY-ON (AND NOTHING MORE!) THIS VACATION

“Any time your luggage has to be routed differently or go through a different process than normal, you run a higher risk of losing your bag, so stay within the recommended limits set by your airline,” he said.

3. Make your bag look unique

Many suitcases look similar — which means that someone who is not careful may go home with someone else’s things.

Adding a luggage strap or sticker to a “basic black suitcase” can help make it stand out, multiple experts told Fox News Digital.  (iStock)

“After a transatlantic flight, everybody is tired, and it’s so easy to grab the wrong suitcases at the luggage carousel,” said Campbell.

To avoid this, Campbell puts stickers on both sides of his “basic black suitcase,” as well as a yellow pompom — which he puts away as soon as he collects his bag.

Dominic Brown, a Richmond-based food and travel blogger, also uses identifiers on his luggage.

“Whether I’m traveling domestically or abroad, I use luggage straps to ensure that my luggage does not get lost in the airport,” he told Fox News Digital in an email.

These straps, he said, help make his suitcase stand out from other “basic colored suitcase sets.”

Brown, who owns the website TallTravelEats, has traveled across several continents — and told Fox News Digital that since he began using luggage straps, he has not lost a bag during his travels.

AirTags, or similar tracking products, can help a traveler find their bags after a long day of travel. (Apple)

But Brown warned that to avoid any surprises at the airport, a traveler should ensure that the luggage straps are TSA-approved.

4. Use a GPS tracker

Another suggestion is that travelers consider using AirTags or other similar tracking products to make sure their bags make it onto the plane.

AirTags, made by Apple, have to be set up with an iPhone or iPad, but the product can be tracked using an app that is available in the Google Play store.

Other tracking devices such as Tile are not tied to a particular operating system.

“Luggage will get lost, and often the airlines have no idea where it is,” said Campbell.

“I want to help them out, so I use AirTags, so I can find a lost piece of luggage and show it to the airline.”

Like all technology, AirTags are not entirely perfect, said Campbell.

“The first time I [used an AirTag in a checked bag], I almost had a heart attack as I flew out of London, but my bags were still showing up in another part of Heathrow,” he said.

“Turns out, AirTags can’t update in parts of the airport where there is no signal.”

If you’re a Walmart fan (and the fact that you’re reading this suggests you may well be), June’s something of a blockbuster month for Walmart deals. On the 17th, Walmart+ Week begins, so you’ll be wanting to stock up on all manner of tech, housewares and pre-summer gear at big, big savings. For now, though, let’s turn our attention to something more pressing — Father’s Day! Don’t get caught empty-handed on the big day (which is next Sunday, btw). How about dazzling Dad with a brand-spanking-new Lenovo laptop? This one‘s nearly $300 off. Or maybe something more summer-specific, like a charcoal smoker (half price!) for the family grillmeister. Perhaps something for both of you — like this soundbar, which will spare you from hearing pops say “What’d he say?” umpteen times during family movie night. Could be the best $33 (down from $100!) you’ll ever spend. How’s that for a month of markdown-y goodness?

It features two tiers, so he can cook and smoke multiple items at once, with a damper system that makes it easy to control the heat level. There’s even a built-in thermometer that’ll let him know precisely what the cooking temps are.

  • Trip.Best showcases top global destinations.
  • Trip.Trends reveals the latest travel trends based on user searches across Trip.com, search engines, and social media.
  • Trip.Deals brings the best promotions to travellers.

The lists were unveiled at the 2024 Hunan International Cultural Tourism Festival Gala Dinner and Trip.Best Global Award Ceremony in Zhangjiajie on May 31. The event, attended by over 900 guests, including industry partners and tourism bureaus from more than 50 countries, celebrated the launch of the Trip.Best Global and Asia 100 lists, as well as the 2024 Trip.Trends 100 list.

Trip.Trends tracks the hottest travel topics and events, offering a glimpse into future trends. The 2024 Trip.Trends 100 list features newly opened hotels and attractions from 2023, giving travellers fresh and trendy options.

These curated lists are part of Trip.com’s vibrant content marketing strategy, designed to drive consumer awareness and provide relevant information for securing the best offerings and deals. For instance, Trip.Best inspires travellers to book their favourite properties, boosting traffic and bookings for hotel partners. This initiative propels Trip.com’s globalisation strategy, forging powerful alliances with global partners to deliver unparalleled, seamless travel experiences.
