Alastair Clarkson warns Carlton are ‘dangerous’ after giving up 43-point lead to Melbourne

0

North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson says he would rather face a red-hot Carlton coming off 10 wins than the current beleaguered Blues with their backs to the wall.

The Kangaroos (2-1) will head into the Good Friday clash at Marvel Stadium believing they can claim a third win from four matches against Carlton, who threw away a 43-point lead in their loss to Melbourne.

That result has thrown Carlton (1-2) into fresh turmoil and piled pressure on coach Michael Voss — days after North handled an under-fire Essendon.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

“These are proud clubs, proud men, backs to the wall,” Clarkson said.

“They’ll be at their most dangerous rather than get them at a good time.

“I’d probably rather they’ve won 10 on the trot and won them all by 10 goals than face them when they’re trying to rebound from a game where they would think they should have had that game wrapped up just after half-time.

“So we know we’re in for a fierce contest, but it’s not really about Carlton.”

Alastair Clarkson is wary of a wounded Carlton and their coach Michael Voss (pictured).

The Blues have proved vulnerable in second halves but Clarkson is wary of a response.

“The stats suggest they’ve been poor in second halves — but I don’t think that’s a reflection of what’s going to happen on a consistent basis with Carlton,” Clarkson said.

“I just see a proud footy club, a proud coach and a group of guys that are trying their darndest to get themselves into the contest for as long into the game as they possibly can.”

North will be without ruckman Tristan Xerri, who is serving a three-match serious misconduct suspension for wiping blood on the face of Essendon captain Andrew McGrath.

Clarkson flagged youngster Taylor Goad and veteran Jack Darling as options to support Callum Coleman-Jones in the ruck.

Like captain Nick Larkey, the coach will encourage Xerri to maintain his aggression — to a point.

“If we take that away from him, it takes away his most significant strength — but having said that, you’ve got to play within the rules of the game as much as you possibly can,” Clarkson said.

“But if you run close to that white line, you’re going to transgress from time to time, and just hope that either one, you get away with it, or two, your transgression is not severe enough to warrant a penalty

“He’s a great competitor for us and we’re not going to ask him to change his ways in that regard.

“We might ask him to change his ways in the aftermath of things when he is pretty hot under the collar for something. But his teammates can assist him with that too.”

IndiGo shares jump 9% after India’s largest airline names industry veteran William Walsh as CEO

Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, which runs India’s largest airline IndiGo, rose more than 9% Wednesday, a day after it named industry veteran William Walsh ‌as its new chief executive.

Walsh, 64, is currently the director general ‌of the International Air Transport Association and will join the Indian airline in early August. Walsh has served as the CEO of British Airways.

His appointment comes weeks after Pieter Elbers suddenly stepped down as IndiGo’s top boss following scrutiny over the carrier’s failure to plan properly for pilot rest and duty rules, which led to thousands of flight cancellations in December. Elbers exited the company last month, citing “personal reasons.”

Indian airline companies have been particularly affected due to the airspace disruptions caused by the Middle East conflict.

On March 18, Moody’s-backed Indian rating agency ICRA placed IndiGo’s long-term credit rating “on Watch with Negative Implications” owing to the “expected pressure on the airline’s operating and financial performance arising from the escalation of the geopolitical conflict in West Asia.”

IndiGo commands nearly 65% of India’s aviation market share, while Air India is a distant second at about 27%, according to data from the country’s aviation regulator.

Walsh’s experience of “managing large-scale airline operations and navigating complex market dynamics make him ideally suited to strengthen and lead IndiGo for continued growth,” said Vikram Singh Mehta, IndiGo’s chairman, in an exchange filing on Tuesday.

Walsh has also served as CEO of IAG, the parent company of British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus, LEVEL, IAG Loyalty and IAG Cargo.

Free museums may now slap entry fees on millions of tourists under hotly debated proposal

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A new recommendation currently under discussion in the United Kingdom would change how foreigners visit popular national museums such as the British Museum and the National Gallery.

Margaret Hodge, a former Labour Party member of Parliament, submitted an independent review of the Arts Council England that suggests reform and addresses funding shortfalls by employing a new financial push — which the government has agreed to explore.

AMERICANS MUST PAY HIGHER FEE FOR A TICKET TO THE WORLD’S MOST VISITED MUSEUM

“The government believes charging international visitors at national museums could provide significant benefits,” the response notes.

In France, officials recently raised prices at the Louvre for foreign visitors.

Foreigners from outside the European Union now pay $12 more than a typical ticket for that museum, from $25 to $37, Fox News Digital previously reported.

As numerous reports have noted, charging foreigners a fee for U.K. museum visitation could present challenges, as there is currently no legal requirement to carry an ID — making it difficult to distinguish citizens from non-citizens.

At the end of parliament’s session, a “Digital ID scheme” is set to roll out; it would store personal information such as name, date of birth, nationality or residency status, plus a photo.

“Your free digital ID will be stored securely on your phone … simplifying access to government services and a range of uses across the private sector,” said a recent update from the government.

The implementation of digital IDs could help address the issue of identifying visitors, some reports have noted.

The British Museum, which opened its doors in 1759, was the most visited museum in the U.K. in both 2024 and 2025, with 6.1 million people visiting last year, according to Museum and Heritage.

As a piece in The Times (London) noted, “The government of Tony Blair abolished entry charges for England’s national museums 25 years ago. That policy is now under challenge.” (Special collections may still charge fees.)

Maria Balshaw, director of the Tate, expressed thoughts about the notion of charging foreign visitors an entry fee to U.K. museums.

“The British Museum and the [Victoria & Albert Museum], in particular, hold the best of many other nations’ art and culture,” Balshaw told The Financial Times, as The Art Newspaper reported.

SirPAD: Primary Results confirm the safety and efficacy of Sirolimus Coated Balloon in PAD

0

TAMPA, Fla., March 31, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Concept Medical Inc. (CMI), a global leader in innovative drug-delivery technology across vascular interventions, proudly announces the presentation of the world’s largest randomised controlled trial of a Sirolimus-coated balloon for Peripheral Artery Disease (SirPAD) at the ACC 2026 Scientific Sessions.

The primary results of the SirPAD trial were presented as a Late Breaking Clinical Presentation by Prof. Dr. Stefano Barco from the University Hospital Zurich on behalf of SirPAD Steering Committee members and investigators. The primary results of the SirPAD trial have been simultaneously published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The academic, all-comers SirPAD trial enrolled 1,252 patients with femoropopliteal or below-the-knee PAD who were randomized to receive either the sirolimus-coated balloon MagicTouch PTA or any uncoated balloon angioplasty. The primary outcome of major adverse limb events (MALE), encompassing major unplanned amputations affecting the target limb or target-lesion revascularization for critical ischemia, occurred in 8.8% of patients enrolled in the sirolimus-coated balloon group vs. 15% in the uncoated balloon group at one year, corresponding to a median unbiased estimate of the risk difference of -4.9%. This difference was both noninferior and superior in favour of MagicTouch PTA (Concept Medical Inc.) vs. uncoated balloon. Furthermore, the authors showed a statistically significant reduction in the composite key secondary endpoint of any unplanned target-limb amputation or any target limb revascularization.

“We are excited about the primary outcome results of SirPAD. It is one of the very few trials in this field that successfully included an all-comers population, meaning consecutive patients without eligibility restrictions related to target-lesion characteristics or PAD stage. This led to nearly 50% of enrolled patients having acute or chronic limb-threatening ischemia, thereby providing enough events and statistical power to demonstrate superiority for hard clinical outcomes at one year,” said Principal Investigators Prof. Dr. med. Nils Kucher and Prof. Dr. med. Stefano Barco, co-chairs of this groundbreaking trial after the presentation.

SirPAD is a gamechanger trial with the data marking a turning point in the vascular intervention and MagicTouch PTA sirolimus-coated balloon emerging as a future treatment alternative. MagicTouch sirolimus-coated balloon is the most clinically studied drug coated balloon and is creating the highest clinical evidence in both coronary and peripheral domains. The recently conducted SIRONA RCT in the femoropopliteal PAD against Paclitaxel DCBs also confirmed the non-inferiority of MagicTouch PTA. With the primary analysis published of the SirPAD trial, there is proof of efficacy that Sirolimus drug coated balloon improves clinical outcomes in an-all comers population with potential impact on future guidelines, thus expanding the available treatment options with physicians.

“SirPAD is an important milestone for the PAD community and for the continued evolution of sirolimus-coated balloon therapy. Seeing MagicTouch PTA evaluated in a large, investigator-led randomized trial and supported by peer-reviewed publication reinforces our belief that meaningful innovation must be validated through rigorous science. We are grateful to the investigators, study teams, and patients who made this landmark study possible,” said Dr. Manish Doshi, Founder and Managing Director of Concept Medical and inventor of MagicTouch.

Source: Data from SirPAD, presented as a Late-Breaking Clinical Trial at the 75th American College of Cardiology (ACC) Conference by Prof. Dr. Stefano Barco on March 30, 2026, in New Orleans, LA, USA, and simultaneously published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

CAUTION: The law restricts these devices to sale by or on the order of a physician. Indications, contraindications, warnings and instructions for use can be found in the product labelling supplied with each device. For restricted use only in countries where product registered with applicable health authorities. MagicTouch PTA is an investigational device approved by USFDA for use in clinical trials only.

Athletics great Cathy Freeman joins race to help deliver 2032 Olympic Games

0

Athletics great Cathy Freeman is set to make an impact on another home Olympics after joining the race to deliver the Brisbane 2032 Games.

The track and field champion and proud Aboriginal woman has taken up a key Olympic advisory role, becoming the latest high-profile star to help Games organisers.

Ms Freeman, 53, became the face of the 2000 Sydney Games and the first Indigenous Australian to win individual Olympic gold by claiming a stunning 400m victory.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

Almost 30 years later, she hopes to leave her mark on the upcoming Brisbane Games after joining the organising committee’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advisory group.

Freeman will join former sprint star Patrick Johnson and ex-Boomers basketball skipper Patty Mills when the group meets this week to support the Brisbane 2032 board on the Games’ direction.

“I have so many wonderful memories of the Sydney 2000 Games, from the honour of lighting the Olympic flame to the jubilation of winning gold in the 400 metres final,” Freeman said in a statement.

“I’m excited to create new memories ahead of Brisbane and Queensland’s turn to host.”

Four advisory groups will support the 2032 board in the Brisbane Games countdown – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, athletes and sport along with commercial and councils.

“There is nothing like the sense of unity, pride and belonging that sweeps across a home nation and everyone that visits during a Games,” Freeman said.

“To have an opportunity to be part of this advisory group and the counsel they are delivering is very special.

“Our home Games in 2032 is an incredible opportunity to showcase the very best of who we are to the world, starting with our history dating back more than 65,000 years, and I look forward to playing my part over the coming six years.”

Freeman is arguably the biggest name to join the Brisbane 2032 crew, which also features swimming greats Ian Thorpe and Susie O’Neill and former world No.1 golfer Greg Norman.

Thorpe and O’Neill feature on the athletes and sport advisory group, while Norman is a 2032 board member.

“There are few Australians with the gravitas of Cathy Freeman,” Brisbane 2032 president Andrew Liveris said.

“I’m delighted she has accepted the invitation to be part of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Group, who are providing critical advice to the Brisbane 2032 board as we progress towards the Games.”

The race has already begun for 2032 venue delivery with the Queensland government last week providing a sneak peek of its centrepiece – the $3.8 billion, 63,000-seat Brisbane Stadium.

JetBlue Airways raises checked bag fees at least $4 as fuel prices soar

JetBlue Airways is raising bag fees at least $4 as jet fuel prices soar amid the Iran war.

Airfare has climbed for routes around the world since the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran on Feb. 28. The higher fees for checked bags are the most recent sign of airlines passing steeper fuel costs down to U.S. consumers. Jet fuel is airlines’ biggest expense after labor.

JetBlue now lists the price to check a first piece of luggage for domestic, Caribbean and Latin America flights as $39 for off-peak periods for most economy passengers, up from $35. For peak periods, like much of the summer and major holidays, the fee will go up to $49 from $40.

If paying less than 24 hours before departure, such as at the airport, travelers will pay $10 more. Airlines have charged customers less for prepaying for their checked baggage in recent years.

There are exemptions to the bag fees entirely, however, such as travelers with a co-branded credit card and frequent flyers with elite status.

“As we experience rising operating costs, we regularly evaluate how to manage those costs while keeping base fares competitive and continuing to invest in the experience our customers value,” JetBlue said in a statement to CNBC.

When an airline raises fees, competitors often follow. American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines didn’t immediately respond to CNBC’s requests for comment.

Fuel prices for Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and New York averaged $4.57 a gallon last Friday, up nearly 83% since the day before the war began, according to data from Argus published by industry group Airlines for America.

“Adjusting fees for optional services used by select customers, such as checked baggage, allows us to continue offering more competitive fares while delivering the onboard experience our customers love, including complimentary snacks and drinks, unlimited, high-speed Wi-Fi and seatback entertainment screens,” JetBlue said. “While we recognize that fee increases are never ideal, we take careful consideration to ensure these changes are implemented only when necessary.”

Airports beg flight passengers to change their travel habits after DHS shutdown jams lines

Airports are still recovering from the fallout of the DHS shutdown that resulted in a shortage of transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers — and some are now changing their advisory messages to travelers.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio is cautioning passengers to arrive just 1.5 hours before their flights depart.

“Early morning travel PSA, 90 minutes before departure is the sweet spot,” the airport posted on X on Thursday.

“Showing up too early creates those first-wave lines,” the post also said. “Even when lines stretch to ticketing, waits are usually [about] 45 mins.”

The airport also attached a graphic of suggested arrival times for flights starting at 5 p.m. through 12 p.m.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas wrote on X it’s expecting over 30,000 travelers to be processed by TSA on Monday.
