The Google Cloud Partner Awards recognize the leaders of digital innovation that are leveraging Google Cloud to give clients new business value while recording exceptional achievements. Awards are presented across 14 categories, including services, industry solutions, public sector and social impact.

The services category recognizes the partner companies providing distinctive services through optimized Google Cloud migration that are tailored to the client’s business characteristics and help them achieve business success. In 2023, LG CNS was acknowledged for leading client DX innovation and Application Modernization (AM) by applying Google Cloud’s core services, including its cloud and data platforms. LG CNS provided distinctive client value by delivering customized services to clients across various industries including the gaming, logistics, retail and manufacturing sectors.

For example, LG CNS supported a South Korean company last year in building its own LLM (Large Language Model) model on Google Cloud, significantly reducing its trial and error in AI model training and allowing it to operate global services stably. For another South Korean company, LG CNS combined Google Cloud’s generative AI platform with client service to enhance its operational efficiency. LG CNS also conducted a Proof of Concept (PoC) using BigQuery[3] to analyze consumer marketing data for a third company, improving client value by enabling data analysts to perform their tasks effectively. Additionally, LG CNS participated as a service partner in migrating the existing database of a global company based in Singapore to Google Cloud.

LG CNS’s team of elite professionals, who excel in delivering premier cloud services, have laid the foundation for these achievements. With over 3,900 certifications from global top 3 CSP providers, including Google Cloud certifications such as cloud architect, cloud network engineer, data engineer, machine learning engineer and cloud security engineer, LG CNS ensures unparalleled proficiency in the field.

LG CNS continues to demonstrate its technical prowess by acquiring certifications and qualifications from Google Cloud including its Specialization for Data Analytics – Services in December 2023. The company has also achieved Specializations in Machine Learning – Services, Infrastructure – Services and Cloud Migration – Services as well as attaining its prestigious Premier Partner status in 2020 for Google Cloud in the Sell and Service Engagement Models, which Google Cloud reserves for its top-tier partners.

In August 2023, LG CNS began strengthening its technical and business collaboration with Google Cloud in the cloud and generative AI-related domains at the ‘Google Cloud Next 2023’ conference, where representatives from both companies convened to discuss avenues for enhanced cooperation.

“We have achieved outstanding results in the cloud-based generative AI business, encompassing the entire spectrum from MSP to AM and SaaS,” said Taehoon Kim, head of the Cloud Business division at LG CNS. “We will continue to foster a close partnership with Google Cloud to consistently deliver unique value to our clients.”

“Google Cloud’s Partner Awards celebrate the transformative impact and value that partners have delivered for clients,” said Kevin Ichhpurani, Corporate Vice President, Global Ecosystem and Channels at Google Cloud. “We’re proud to announce LG CNS as a 2024 Google Cloud Partner Award winner and recognize their achievements enabling client success from the past year.”

Delta Air Lines gives staff another 5% raise, hikes starting wages to $19 an hour

Delta Air Lines said it is raising staff pay by another 5% this year as the country’s most profitable airline prepares for the busy summer travel season.

The pay increase, which starts June 1, applies to workers including flight attendants, ground handlers, mechanics and some office workers, among others. It does not apply to pilots, who are unionized and ratified a contract last year for big pay increases after stagnant wages during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA launched a unionization campaign of Delta’s cabin crew in late 2019.

Delta raised staff pay by 5% last year and the pay hike unveiled Monday is the third the Atlanta-based carrier has announced since 2022. With the new raises, starting pay at Delta’s mainline operation in the U.S. will rise to $19 an hour from $16.55.

“With this increase in base pay and starting rates, we continue our commitment to provide Delta people with industry-leading total compensation for industry-leading performance,” CEO Ed Bastian said in a memo to staff on Monday.

Emirates CEO issues apology after Dubai flood chaos; says airline has 30,000 suitcases to return

People queue at a flight connection desk after a rainstorm hit Dubai, causing delays at the Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates, April 17, 2024.

Rula Rouhana | Reuters

The CEO of Emirates Airline issued an apology letter to customers over the weekend after historic rains in the United Arab Emirates caused record flooding and mayhem at Dubai’s airport.

Hundreds of flights were grounded and thousands of customers were stranded as a result.

“I would like to offer our most sincere apologies to every customer who has had their travel plans disrupted during this time,” company chief Tim Clark wrote in the letter published on the airline’s website Saturday.

“We know our response has been far from perfect. We acknowledge and understand the frustration of our customers due to the congestion, lack of information, and confusion in the terminals. We acknowledge that the long queues and wait times have been unacceptable.”

While the airline’s service hub at Dubai airport remained open, “flooded roads impeded the ability of our customers, pilots, cabin crew, and airport employees to reach the airport, and also the movement of essential supplies like meals and other flight amenities,” Clark wrote.

A woman and her daughters eat as they wait for their flight after a rainstorm hit Dubai, causing delays at Dubai International Airport, United Arab Emirates, April 17, 2024.

Rula Rouhana | Reuters

He said that the airline diverted dozens of flights on Tuesday as the worst of the storm raged, and that “over the next 3 days we had to cancel nearly 400 flights and delay many more, as our hub operations remained challenged by staffing and supply shortages.”

Emirates on Wednesday issued a notice urging travelers not to come to the airport, except for in emergency situations. It also suspended check-ins for those meant to fly out of Dubai, put an embargo on ticket sales and halted connecting flights from other cities to Dubai, leaving some passengers stuck around the world.

'We've never seen anything like this': Dubai Airports CEO discusses flood

Social media lit up with angry posts from customers who said they received no help from Emirates staff and were unable to contact anyone at the company.

“12hrs waiting on a cancelled flight and 6hrs waiting at this desk with people fainting, fighting and trying to keep sane and absolutely no communication from Emirates,” one Instagram user posted, along with a photo showing a packed crowd of people in front of Emirates screens at the Dubai airport. The time stamp on the photo was 7:05 a.m. Friday.

Another traveler told CNBC via social media: “It took me 48 hours to get from London to Baghdad via Dubai. Five hours on tarmac in airplane [in Dubai], one hour of which there was no one to open the gates of the aircraft bridge. I made my own way out … found a hotel and went back, waited 12 hours. Got on a flight and they served us almonds!”

Some people said they were stuck at the airport for more than 20 hours, and others, stranded in foreign cities and connecting airports, said they had to book their own return home after receiving no help from Emirates.

TOPSHOT – Cars are stranded on a flooded street in Dubai following heavy rains on April 18, 2024. Dubai’s giant highways were clogged by flooding and its major airport was in chaos as the Middle East financial centre remained gridlocked on April 18, a day after the heaviest rains on record.

Clark said his staff did their best to deal with the unprecedented situation, and that it was “all hands-on deck for thousands more employees across the organisation to get our operations back on track.”

The CEO wrote that the airline “sent over 100 employee volunteers to look after disrupted customers at Dubai Airport departures and in the transit area, prioritising medical cases, the elderly and other vulnerable travellers.” He added that more than 12,000 hotel rooms were provided for customers in Dubai, as well as 250,000 meal vouchers issued.

As of Saturday, Emirates’ regular flight schedules had been restored. In the letter, Clark said the airline still had more than 30,000 pieces of luggage to return to customers.

“We have put together a taskforce to sort, reconcile, and deliver some 30,000 pieces of left-behind baggage to their owners,” he said, adding that it will “take us some more days to clear the backlog of rebooked passengers and bags,” and asking for customers’ “patience and understanding.”

Clark concluded by pledging to improve the airline’s processes and thanking his staff for their work, as well as offering “our apologies to each and every customer affected by this disruption.”

Spring is here — at least according to the calendar and the pollen count. And even if the temps aren’t quite up to tank top levels yet, it may be a good idea to stock up on a few comfy and stylish basics that can be layered easily in a variety of outfits and work just as well for warm days as for cooler nights. Our suggestion? Amazon’s fan-favorite Mirol Sleeveless Tunic Tank Top, and you can get it for just $13.

Why is this a good deal? 💰

For the cost of a couple of lattes, you can have a versatile addition to your spring wardrobe. This sleeveless top is such a great deal at $13, buying several in different colors for a variety of warmer-weather outfits is a smart move. The price doesn’t usually go this low, so if you’d like to get summer-ready, now’s the time to add to cart.

Why do I need this? 🤔

This sleeveless tank top is ideal for layering, with a lightweight yet substantial knit and soft, stretchy and forgiving material. That means you’ll be set from April all the way through summer — just pair it with your favorite jean jacket now, and wear it solo over your favorite shorts once we’re fully in cocktails-and-cookouts season.

Many reviewers feel that the tank is also cut juuuuust right — long enough for pleasant drapiness, loose enough for comfort, not so loose as to be unflatteringly baggy, and with generous arm holes that both obscure any undergarments and also don’t create the dreaded too-tight arm bulge. It’ll be easy to find a color that works for your wardrobe (there are 31 to choose from) and you can pick from sizes Small to X-Large.

What reviewers say 💬

Tons of Amazon shoppers have already fallen in love with the tunic tank top, with many praising its comfort, quality and flattering look.

Pros 👍

“I think this will be my new go-to shirt style,” mused one happy fashionista. “Cute, loose, comfy and does a pretty good job of hiding my ‘mom’ stomach.” Another wearer agreed with the acclaim: “Typical fit, very soft, lightweight without being see-through. Well-fitting armholes, too.”

Some reviewers have even become the subjects of style praise after wearing the tank out and about. “I get a ton of compliments! It’s very flattering,” enthused one writer.

Cons 👎

A tip from shoppers is you may want to size down on this tank.

One customer noted, “It is a bit wide.” Another revealed, “Very comfortable…My only disappointment was that they run a little big.”

“Zero stars untucked, 5 stars tucked!” exclaimed this reviewer, with photos. “It’s massive untucked and unflattering. It’s a completely different shirt tucked. Very comfortable and lightweight.”

BGI Genomics Leads Innovation with Inaugural Clinical Lab in Uruguay

Cutting-edge facility to serve as a beacon for preventive medicine in Latin America

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay, April 22, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — BGI Genomics, a global leader in integrated precision medicine solutions, has established a new clinical laboratory at Uruguay’s Parque de las Ciencias free trade zone. This facility is poised to become a regional hub, advancing preventive medicine across Latin America and utilizing advanced technology to facilitate early disease diagnosis.

The inauguration was attended by Omar Paganini, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Elisa Facio, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining; and Karina Rando, Minister of Public Health, along with other national and departmental dignitaries. Dr. Yin Ye, CEO of BGI Group, the parent company of BGI Genomics, was also in attendance. Notably, Minister Rando had previously visited the site in August 2023, while Minister Facio met with Dr. Yin Ye in China in November 2023.

Dr. Yin Ye, CEO of BGI Group, the parent company of BGI Genomics, was also in attendance.

This laboratory, the first of its kind in the region, specializes in precision medicine applications. It is 1,000 square meters and dedicated exclusively to the company’s operations.

This facility boasts a Huo-Yan Air Laboratory equipped with seven cabins that cover the entire genetic testing process: sample handling, extraction, sequencing, analysis, quality control, and report generation. The facility also features an advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and unique design elements to prevent contamination between cabins.

Currently, the laboratory employs Uruguayan technicians specializing in biochemistry and biotechnology. These technicians are supported by application experts from China who are providing training on the latest technology used by BGI Genomics.

The company has developed the Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, which has revolutionized genomics and molecular biology. With this technology, BGI Genomics aims to make genetic testing more accessible and affordable, to support earlier diagnoses across Latin America.

Elisa Facio, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, mentioned, “At the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining we are focused on promoting innovation, emerging technologies and science. Therefore, when BGI Genomics decided to launch its first Latin American laboratory in Uruguay, it was excellent news for our ministry and for the country. We understand that biotechnology is an economically booming sector, with a lot of potential, that is why we are making efforts to position the country in this field of science. The fact that this world leader in biotechnology, present in more than 100 countries worldwide, has decided to set up in Uruguay is a sign that we are on the right track.”

Natalia Pereiras, laboratory director, stated, “Our main goal is to bring these advanced diagnostic tools to the population at an affordable cost. By developing both the product and the methodology in-house, we can reduce costs significantly compared to other labs.”

Wu Liang, general manager for Latin America at BGI Genomics, highlighted Uruguay’s strategic advantages, including its location near the Carrasco Airport and the benefits of operating within a free trade zone. “We are positioned to bring earlier diagnoses of genetic diseases to all of Latin America. Preventive medicine and technologies like pharmacogenetics are crucial for the future,” he remarked.

BGI Genomics also developed an extensive oncology portfolio. Among these offerings is the COLOTECT product utilizing Real-Time PCR technique, used for detecting colorectal cancer, which is the third most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in Uruguay, following lung carcinoma. In addition, the SENTIS portfolio allows for the testing of 688 cancer-related genes from tumor biopsies, followed by testing 290 drugs that help select the most suitable treatment for the patient. These molecular biology techniques are valuable tools that can assist clinicians and are non-invasive.

Another major focus of BGI Genomics is reproductive health, and among its products is NIFTY, which provides prenatal screening from the tenth week of gestation using a blood sample to analyze DNA. The conventional NIFTY test studies trisomy or the presence of an additional chromosome in pairs 13, 18, and 21, which are the most prevalent. This test detects certain microdeletions or losses of chromosomal material, as well as duplications. Additionally, the company developed NIFTY Pro, which is a more comprehensive test that can detect DiGeorge syndrome, among other disorders, caused by the deletion of a small part of chromosome 22.

Its services cover more than 100 countries and regions, involving more than 2,300 medical institutions and 10,000 employees worldwide. Greece sightseeing travel guide: Ancient ruins, rugged mountains, Mediterranean waters

0

Greece has long been a wildly popular tourist destination for Americans and Europeans alike.

Here are a few must-see places to consider when planning your trip to the capital, Athens, and Greece’s rugged mountains and numerous islands.

The Acropolis

Towering over Athens, the Acropolis and its iconic Parthenon, is arguably the most revered tourist site in Greece.

GREECE TRAVEL GUIDE: POPULAR TOURIST DESTINATIONS FROM ATHENS TO THE ISLANDS

In the mid-fifth century BCE, Pericles called upon the city to embark upon a new construction program: three temples, and later the Theater of Dionysus and the Theater of Herodes Atticus, were built on the promontory overlooking the city. The Theater of Herodes Atticus was restored in 1955 and is used as an outdoor concert venue.

Although the famous sculptures of the Parthenon, the Elgin Marbles, are controversially still held at the British Museum in London, the Parthenon still affords views of ancient sculptures, particularly on the east pediment. Make sure to visit the olive tree that Athena planted to compete with Poseidon.

The National Archaeological Museum

During the ravages of World War II, this museum’s precious treasures were divided up and buried underground to protect them from destruction. After the museum reopened in 1946, top experts began the painstaking process of reorganizing and displaying the formidable collection.

Heavy on sculpture, pottery and jewelry, it is divided into seven collections: Neolithic and Cycladic, Mycenaean, Geometric and Archaic Sculpture, Classical sculpture, Roman and Hellenistic sculpture, pottery, and the Thira frescoes. Not to be missed are the gold Mask of Agamemnon and the iconic bronzes “Horse with the Little Jockey” and “Poseidon.”

Monastiraki

This lively and active area serves as the city’s flea market, with the streets of Areos, Ifaistou and Pandrosou abounding with interesting and varied shops specializing in a variety of antiques, like books, jewelry, furniture, artwork, tools, and metal and leather goods.

The heart of the market is the Plateia Avyssinias, which is booming with business on Sundays. In addition to antiquing, many shops sell items of interest to tourists, and there are numerous cafés and restaurants nearby to take a break from shopping.

Samaria Gorge

Tucked away on the southern island of Crete, the 10-mile-long Samaria Gorge runs from Omalos in the White Mountains down to Agia Roumeli on the Libyan Sea.

Its towering mountains and lush forests make for a once-in-a-lifetime hiking experience. Located on the southeastern corner of the island, hikers should bring plenty of water and good footwear, and be prepared for a five- to eight-hour excursion.

Mount Olympus

Mount Olympus is not merely the name for the highest point in Greece, the home of the Greek panoply of gods, but for the entire mountain massif, 12 miles across.

Located in northern Greece, the Olympus National Park is roughly a two-hour drive south of Thessaloniki. The flora and fauna feature more than 1,700 plant species as well as chamois, boars and deer.

Only experienced hikers should attempt to summit Mytikas Peak, the highest point in Greece. It’s a 12-mile round-trip hike with a particularly steep and exposed final ascent and a grueling 6,200 feet of vertical gain.

Corinth

Located just 50 miles west of Athens, Corinth makes for a perfect day trip.

The city’s most impressive feature is the Acrocorinth, a castle fortress atop a massive rock overlooking the city. The American School’s Corinth Excavations began here in 1929, and it is widely regarded as one of the most important medieval castles in Greece.

Nearby, one can walk the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and view the dramatic Corinth canal, passing through two rocky cliff faces.

The Blue Caves of Zakynthos are a bit off the beaten track but well worthy of a visit.

Located on an island off the nation’s southwest coast, they feature some of the most stunning blue water and rugged rock formations in Europe. The nearby beach resorts of Tsilivi and Alykes offer fun in the sun and ample water sports opportunities, while Laganas is famed for its spirited nightlife.

Mountain climbers are a full-body workout. Here’s the right way to do them

0

My clients aren’t exactly requesting to do mountain climbers — they are super tough! But they also torch calories and work your entire body.

Mountain climbers, named after the challenging workout of climbing a mountain, improve both leg and core strength and raise your heart rate. For these reasons, the move is often a part of many workout routines, but proper form is essential to getting the most out of the move and to keeping yourself safe.

Benefits of mountain climbers

Mountain climbers require work from a lot of muscle groups, so the extra effort equals extra results. The move works the abs, low back, glutes and hamstrings — all major muscle groups that help us to maintain good posture.

Surprisingly, this high-intensity exercise is also low-impact, so it’s good for people who have joint pain but also want to burn calories and raise their heart rate.

Most common mistakes when doing mountain climbers

It’s important to have good form to prevent injury, so be careful not to arch your back or raise your hips too high. These mistakes put stress on the back because the core is disengaged.

It’s also important not to move too fast — while this may feel more intense, moving quickly makes it easier to forget about your core.

Try these tips to avoid these mistakes:

  • Keep a long line from your head to your toes. Don’t arch your back or bend at the hips, but think of your body as one long, straight line.

  • Keep your upper body in plank position. Although you’re moving your legs, your back and hips should maintain a strong plank.

  • Maintain a steady pace. Don’t try to rush and move too fast to maintain your form — faster doesn’t mean better. It’s more important to keep your core engaged.

How to do a modified mountain climber

modified mountain climber

modified mountain climber

This exercise requires full-body engagement and precision. If you’re not quite there yet, try this modification to help gain the strength to perform a full mountain climber correctly.

For a modified mountain climber, use a chair. This will help with stability and decrease the intensity of the move. Start by placing the chair in front of you and put your hands on the seat. Make sure your hands are directly below your shoulders and your arms are straight.

Next, extend your legs behind you and balance on your toes with your core engaged; your body will be at a slight angle. Begin with your legs straight, and then start a marching movement by bringing your left knee towards your left elbow, replace your left foot back on the ground, then move your right knee towards your right elbow. Repeat this with your core engaged.

How to perform a mountain climber correctly

Follow these step-by-step instructions to ensure you’re performing mountain climbers properly:

  • Begin in plank position, keeping your back straight, your hips low and your core engaged.

  • Bring your right knee under your chest toward your right elbow.

  • Return your right leg back to plank position; bring your left leg under your chest toward your left elbow.

  • Repeat while alternating your legs, keeping a steady pace.

  • Remember to breathe and concentrate on engaging your abs, glutes and hamstrings.

4 exercises that will help you master the mountain climber

It’s common to make mistakes while performing mountain climbers, especially if you’ve never tried them before. Here are some moves that work the same muscles; try them first to build strength that will make performing climbers easier.

Plank

Plank

Being able to perform a solid plank will definitely help you perform mountain climbers properly. Put your hands on the floor below your shoulders, keeping your arms straight. With your back straight and your hips low, lift your body weight up, squeezing your core. Hold this position for 10 seconds. Repeat 10 times.

high knees

high knees

High knees

High knees require the same type of leg movements that mountain climbers do, but instead of being on the ground, you’ll be standing. Hold your arms out to your sides in a “cactus position” with your elbows bent at 90 degrees and your hands pointing up toward the ceiling. Cactus arms mimic the stationary upper body in mountain climbers, which recruits more of your core muscles. Holding your arms steady, bring one knee up toward your chest, stopping at waist height so that you’re making a 90-degree angle at the knee. Alternate your legs, keeping a quick pace. Repeat 10 times per knee.

Plank jack

Plank jack

Plank jack

The plank jack falls in between plank and mountain climbers in terms of intensity, making for a perfect stepping stone. In plank position, begin jumping your feet out and in as if you would if you were doing a standing jumping jack. Keep your core and glutes engaged, and try not to let your hips bounce. Repeat for 10 jumps. (To modify: step each foot out to the side and back instead of jumping.)

squats

squats

Squats

Mountain climbers require strong glutes, so performing squats beforehand will activate these muscles. Standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, bend at the hips as if you’re sitting back into a chair. Stand back up squeezing the glutes at the top, and repeat. Use your glutes and abs to bring your body up and down. Repeat 10 times.
