National Park Week is coming up — and that means free entry for visitors

Visitors to national parks will get free admission on April 20 as the federal government waives entrance fees to commemorate the start of National Park Week.

National Park Week runs for nine days, from April 20 to April 28.

The National Park Service oversees 429 park sites in the U.S. Of them, 63 are national parks. The remainder are national monuments, national battlefields and national historic sites, for example.

2024 is the ‘year of globetrotting’

Most offer free entrance all the time. However, 108 parks don’t — including some of the most popular, like Grand Canyon, Zion, Rocky Mountain, Acadia, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Joshua Tree and Glacier national parks.

Their entrance fees — which typically range from $20 to $35 per vehicle — will be waived on April 20.

Fee structures can vary: Some parks may charge per person instead of per vehicle, and there may also be different fees for motorcycles, for example.

April 20 is one of six days in 2024 when access is free to all national parks. They include:

  • Jan. 15: Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday
  • April 20: First day of National Park Week
  • June 19: Juneteenth
  • Aug. 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • Sept. 28: National Public Lands Day
  • Nov. 11: Veterans Day

Be aware of additional entry requirements

There’s a caveat, however. While all parks may be free on these days, some still require an additional reservation for entry. Those reservations generally come with an extra fee.

For example, Yosemite National Park in California requires reservations to drive into or through the park during peak hours — between 5 am and 4 pm local time — on many days this year. They include holidays and weekends between April 13 and June 30, and every day from July 1 through August 16, for example.

Yosemite visitors won’t be allowed entry without making an online reservation ahead of time. They cost $2, are nonrefundable and are valid for three consecutive days.

National parks forced to deal with overcrowding

Additionally, it may make financial sense for visitors to buy an annual national park pass even if they plan to visit during a free entrance day, depending on the trip itinerary, Mary Cropper, travel advisor and senior U.S. specialist at Audley Travel, previously told CNBC.

The $80 annual pass grants unlimited entrance to national parks and other federal recreation areas. Some groups can get reduced-price or even free annual passes.

For example, a pass would likely be a better option if you plan to visit multiple parks in one trip, Cropper said.

“You want to do the math,” she said.

Airport chaos, sleeping in metro stations, no running water: Dubai’s flood mayhem continues

TOPSHOT – Cars are stranded on a flooded street in Dubai following heavy rains on April 18, 2024. Dubai’s giant highways were clogged by flooding and its major airport was in chaos as the Middle East financial centre remained gridlocked on April 18, a day after the heaviest rains on record.

The United Arab Emirates continues to reel from floods caused by the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the desert state, with airlines, banks, and city transport facing major disruptions and service outages.

Roughly a year’s worth of rain pummeled the normally bone-dry Gulf country in a span of just 12 hours. And in many homes and businesses across Dubai and other emirates, running water and power are no longer functioning.

“The shower isn’t working.” “Can’t flush the toilet.” “Nothing is coming out of the taps.” Those and other similar messages flooded Whatsapp groups in Dubai on Wednesday and Thursday, as many residents living in villas found themselves stuck inside, more than a foot of water flooding the roads outside their houses and submerging their cars.

One widely-shared message urged: “DO NOT walk through flooded areas and DO NOT touch metallic objects on the ground while in water,” warning of electric shocks. Still, with their cars out of commission and taxis avoiding flooded areas, some residents who ran out of food ventured out to buy groceries anyway.

“Wear trainers and shorts and bring a backpack to carry your food back,” one resident of the upmarket Al Manara residential neighborhood advised. Video footage from some neighborhoods showed locals on surfboards and even jet skis to get around. Beiruti Flame Grill, a local Lebanese restaurant, was one of many Dubai businesses completely submerged — its staff are using a raft to get around the neighborhood.

“Some friends of ours have lost almost everything — houses up to waist in water. Been horrible for lots of people,” one resident, who declined to be named due to professional restrictions, told CNBC.

For others, the weather disaster brought out the best in their communities.

“Our community has honestly been amazing, banded together and helped each other where they could,” Samantha Denichaud, a movement therapist living in Dubai, told CNBC. “I think it’s been a time where neighbors who otherwise would never have connected have gotten to know one another. It’s been horrible but also strangely amazing.”

She described residents cooking meals and donating blankets and toiletries to security and maintenance workers who were unable to get back to their homes.

Some parts of the UAE saw over 100 mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday — a 75-year record since the country began recording rainfall, according to country’s National Centre of Meteorology. The government on Tuesday issued a red warning, shuttering offices, school and banks across the country. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Authority warned residents to stay home and park vehicles in elevated spots away from flood-prone areas.

Hundreds of cars were left abandoned on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Highway as drivers’ engines died while water rose around them. The city’s metro became an impromptu overnight shelter, as people working in and around some stations couldn’t get home.

While water levels in some areas are receding and parts of the city are completely dry, some are still too submerged for maintenance and repair services to access. Police cars are blocking certain roads deemed too dangerous, while pumping trucks are working to empty the streets of water.

A massive cleanup is underway and will have to continue for some time. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior on Wednesday evening announced the “end of the weather fluctuations” and said efforts continue to “complete the recovery phase.” Field work teams will “continue their intensive efforts to ensure full recovery and the return of life to normal in all affected areas,” the ministry’s statement said.

Dubai’s airport was a scene of chaos, as frustrated travelers were told they would be unable to fly. The airport urged travelers not to come to the airport unless absolutely necessary, and suspended check-ins until Thursday morning.

For those who landed before arriving flights were suspended, getting home was also an endeavor.

“The airport staff told everyone to get onto the metro for two stops and then to get on the bus replacement service … We got there and there was no replacement service,” one British resident of Dubai coming back from a holiday told CNBC. “Seemed like the airport was just trying to offload bodies further down the line … eventually our mate came in a pickup and got us back home.”

In a statement, a Dubai Airports spokesperson said the airport was “working to restore operations as swiftly as possible amidst these challenging circumstances,” and said that “due to crowding, access to Terminal 1 is now strictly limited to passengers with confirmed departures.” It added that “there are no rebooking facilities available at the terminal.”

Many others are still stuck overseas, as waves of travelers were home-bound this week following the Eid holiday at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Customers took to X to complain about long wait times trying to contact airlines’ customer support, or not being able to contact a human at all.

“Our Contact Centres are experiencing a large volume of interactions due to heavy rains in Dubai and you may experience long wait times before we can answer you,” a notice on Emirates Airline’s website read, asking that customers refrain from calling if their flight is not in the next 48 hours.

For Fanny Balleuil, a French resident of the UAE, being stuck in Bahrain — where she was diverted en route back home to Dubai — is actually more of a blessing in disguise. Her housemates told her that her room was completely flooded; it’s uninhabitable until the water is pumped out by maintenance workers, who can’t access her neighborhood until Friday at the earliest.

“My flight got canceled — I’m stuck in Bahrain, and it’s actually a cute country,” she said. “I never would have visited without this happening!”

Alaska Airlines 2024 forecast tops estimates after loss from Boeing Max grounding

Alaska Airlines forecast second-quarter and full-year earnings well ahead of estimates on Thursday thanks to strong travel demand, despite a first-quarter loss stemming from a midair blowout of a door plug on a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9 in January.

Alaska forecast adjusted earnings per share of between $2.20 and $2.40, above the $2.12 analysts polled by LSEG expected. For 2024, the carrier expects earnings ranging from $3.25 to $5.25 a share, well above the average of $4.36.

The company’s shares were up more than 4% in morning trading.

Delta and United have also forecast strong travel demand for 2024 will drive earnings.

The airline received $162 million from Boeing for the Jan. 5 accident, which caused the Federal Aviation Administration to briefly ground the planes. Alaska said it expects additional compensation from the manufacturer.

The Seattle-based carrier reported a net loss of $132 million, or $1.05 a share for the first quarter, down from $142 million, or $1.11 a share a year earlier. It also reported revenue of $2.2 billion for the first quarter, slightly above the estimated $2.19 billion analysts polled by LSEG expected and 2% above last year.

Adjusting for one-time items, Alaska posted a net loss of 62 cents a share, less than the $1.05 per-share loss analysts were expecting, according to LSEG.

With unique features, Hainan TV opened “The World’s Specialty” pavilion at the Expo!

0

HAIKOU, China, April 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The 4th China International Consumer Product Expo (hereinafter referred to as the “Consumer Expo”) was held in Haikou from April 13 to April 18, and “The World’s Specialty” pavilion carefully built by Hainan TV made its debut. The pavilion has a novel design, rich content and unique characteristics, which caused many onlookers during the exhibition.

The overall design of “The World’s Specialty” pavilion takes global domestic products as the core element, highlighting the functionality of “communication” and “sharing”. Aroma from Thailand, rooibos tea from South Africa, wine from Russia, milk powder from Finland, cashmere sweaters from Mongolia and other products are authentic and have various styles, which aroused great interest of the audience.

At this exhibition, “The World’s Specialty” specially invited the embassies of Mongolia, Ireland, Thailand, Egypt, Croatia, Argentina, Finland, Indonesia, Mozambique, El Salvador and ten other countries to record videos to help. A dialogue of economy, trade and culture across regions as well as media stopped many visitors at the exhibition site.

In order to make the audience better feel the atmosphere of the fourth Consumer Expo, Hainan TV launched three different ways of live streaming. During the period of development, the live streaming area invited a number of influencers and professionals to discuss the Expo and spread it on the network platform; The “slow live streaming” will synchronize the dynamic real-time of the exhibition hall; In addition, the livestreaming tour of the Expo starts from the exhibition hall, and takes the audience to launch a journey of discovery and feel more highlights of the Expo.

“The World’s Specialty” pavilion also possesses an AI photo-taking area for visitors. Paired with our customized scenes, viewers can leave their own photos.

It is worth mentioning that the fourth season of “The World’s Specialty” also officially started filming at the scene of the Consumer Expo on April 13. From the perspective of a third party, the program team will participate in the on-site work of the Expo with the Embassy of Ireland—-the guest country of the Expo, and the Embassy of Mongolia—-the first-time participating country, to show the real experience of the participating countries in a three-dimensional manner. While sharing the treasures and good products of the two countries, the story of cultural exchanges is condensed on fresh products. In a real sense, ” The World’s Specialty ” belongs to Hainan, the whole country and the world.

Extending from TV programs to cultural IP, and then entering the high-level professional exhibition, Hainan TV’s “The World’s Specialty” is not only an exploration of the industrial chain, but also a large survey of consumer preferences. It is believed that in the future, the new way of e-selling goods with the background of global cultural exchanges of “The World’s Specialty” will meet users’ more expectations for quality consumption.

Experience Louisiana’s rich culture, irresistible charm with these tourism locations

0

Louisiana is a state with a rich cultural history and an irresistible charm.

While almost everyone has heard of Louisiana Cajun cooking and New Orleans’ Mardi Gras celebration, the Bayou State has even more to offer.

Louisiana is home to a litany of festivals all year round as well as nearly two dozen state parks and 10 state museums. And, of course, Cajun food and Creole food; as any Louisiana native would tell you, there is a difference.

Louisiana state parks

Louisiana’s 21 state parks are dispersed across its northern, central and southern regions. Water sports, hiking and fishing are popular activities in the parks, and many flock to the parks to witness the seasonal migration of diverse varieties of birds.

NEW ORLEANS JAZZ FEST TO FEATURE VIBRANT CULTURAL SHOWCASE AND CULINARY DELIGHTS

Chicot State Park

Chicot State Park is the largest in Louisiana at 6,400 acres. The park is popular among canoeing, kayaking and fishing enthusiasts, and it has even been the site of state record-setting freshwater catches. Visitors can hike trails around Lake Chicot and keep their eyes peeled for wild creatures like deer and bobcats that call the rural park home.

The park is also the site of the Louisiana State Arboretum, a 300-acre forest that is a favorite of camping fans. Miles of hiking trails, including boardwalks over the water, are waiting to be explored, and boating around the cypress trees growing out of the water is an experience unlike any other.

Fontainebleau State Park

Fontainebleau State Park is located about an hour from New Orleans. Inside the park, visitors can imagine the hustle and bustle of what used to be the sugar plantation on which the park is now built. Aged brick ruins still dot the landscape, and the park offers an educational experience with items such as old handcrafted tools on display.

Fontainebleau offers campsites, hiking trails and a scenic pier over Lake Pontchartrain, as well as swimming at the lakefront and cabins with beautiful lakeside views. Its 2,800 acres contain ample opportunities to see more than 400 species of birds and other wildlife that live or migrate through the park. Like most of the Pelican State, Fontainebleau State Park falls within the Mississippi Flyway, a bird migration route that stretches from central Canada to the Gulf of Mexico, so if you time your visit just right, you could be in for a show.

Cajun and Creole food in Louisiana

Though the terms are sometimes used interchangeably, a native Louisianian would never get them twisted.

‘MESSY AND HANDS-ON’: GRILLED CRAWFISH BOIL RECIPE TO PULL OFF A TRADITIONAL SUMMER AFFAIR

Cajun food

Cajun food comes from the French colonists who lived in the Acadia region of Canada before they were ousted by the British and subsequently moved to Louisiana. The term “Cajun” is derived from the name for this group in French, “les Acadiens.”

Cajun food is known for its abundant seasoning, especially cayenne pepper, and using a base of celery, onion and bell pepper. The French colonists’ influence mixed with the other cultures of the bayou to produce what we today think of as Cajun-style cooking.

Creole food

It is sometimes said that Creole food is from the city and Cajun food is from the countryside. This may be because Creole food originated in high-society kitchens, where it was typically cooked by slaves who had access to a wider variety of ingredients and spices. As a result, the Creole cultural blend that includes Spanish, African, Caribbean, Native American, German and Portuguese influences seeped into the cooking and produced dishes that involved a greater number of components than most Cajun food. Cajun food is also less likely to contain tomatoes.

Mardi Gras

New Orleans is known for its yearly Mardi Gras celebration. The festival is one product of Louisiana’s unique cultural blend, but there is much more to the rich history of the Pelican State than Mardi Gras alone. (Michael DeMocker/Getty Images)

Museums in Louisiana

Though Louisiana is home to more than 10 museums, its 10 state museums are some of its most popular.

1850 House

The 1850 House is a model of what an upper middle-class New Orleans home might have looked like in 1850, a prosperous time period for the city.

The Cabildo

The Cabildo is one of New Orleans’ most important historical buildings. It is where the Louisiana Purchase transfer ceremonies took place in 1803 and where the landmark Plessy v. Ferguson decision was given in 1892. Much more has happened here, but since 1908, the Cabildo has served as a Louisiana history museum.

Capitol Park Museum

This museum traces Louisiana’s unique cultural heritage, explaining how European colonists, Native Americans and enslaved Africans came together to create the culture of the Bayou State. Rotating and permanent exhibits expose Louisiana’s diverse history.

E.D. White Historic Site

On the scenic Bayou Lafourche, this National Historic Landmark was home to Edward Douglas White, governor from 1835 to 1839, and his son, Edward Douglass White, the U.S. Supreme Court chief justice from 1910 to 1921. The museum explores the family’s history as well as that of the Bayou Lafourche region, featuring exhibits on the Chitimacha Indians, Acadian settlers, slavery and sugar cane plantations.

Louisiana Civil Rights Museum

The Louisiana Civil Rights Museum features three dynamic exhibits titled “the Right to Assemble,” “the Right to Education” and “the Right to Vote.” They bridge the gap between late-19th century events and the modern civil rights movement through videos, oral histories and an interactive virtual reality room.

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame & Northwest Louisiana History Museum

Two museums were combined into one site. As you might expect, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame lauds the achievements of Louisiana athletes and coaches, illustrating sports’ importance in Louisiana life. The Northwest Louisiana History Museum honors the history and culture of the region.

Madame John’s Legacy

Madame John’s Legacy is another National Historic Landmark and one of the best examples of French colonial architecture in North America. It is one of the few remaining Louisiana-Creole, 18th-century residential-style buildings.

Traditional grand mansion house with wrought iron fretwork in the Garden District of New Orleans

New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old U.S. Mint

The New Orleans Jazz Museum is in the heart of the city’s vibrant music scene, right on Frenchman Street’s live music corridor. The museum includes a state-of-the-art performance venue with a near-perfect sound environment used to record performances for historical archives. The Jazz Museum promotes the global understanding of jazz as one of the most historically pivotal musical art forms in world history.

The Presbytère

The Presbytère features a permanent exhibit on Mardi Gras, diving into the history and culture of the yearly festival, and another on Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing rescue, rebuilding and renewal. The building was designed in 1791 to match the Cabildo and was built on the site of the residence, or “presbytère,” of Capuchin monks.

Wedell-Williams Aviation & Cypress Sawmill Museum

The Wedell-Williams Aviation Collection tells the story of Louisiana aviation pioneers Jimmie Wedell and Harry P. Williams. The Cypress Sawmill Collection documents the history of the cypress lumber industry in Louisiana, the state’s first significant manufacturing industry.

Louisiana festivals

Aside from sampling regional cuisine, exploring natural wonders and learning American history, there is always a festival or celebration of some kind going on in Louisiana. The ever-popular Mardi Gras serves as the state’s calling card, but cultural enrichment opportunities abound all year round.

Louisiana’s Red River Revel

In downtown Shreveport in autumn, the Red River Revel comprises musical performances all day for nine days in a row. Businesses and families alike take advantage of the lively atmosphere to network and bond as they admire the artwork on display by visual artists who congregate to sell their pieces.

Louisiana’s World Championship Gumbo Cookoff

This food festival is another fall favorite that includes live music and plenty of activities for the whole family. In downtown New Iberia, a weekend of local cooking competitions determine the yearly winner of the Gumbo Cookoff, Youth Gumbo Cookoff, Meanest Beans Competition and more.

A Taste of Covington Food, Wine, Music & Art Festival

Each June sees the monthlong Food, Wine, Music & Art Festival return to Historic Downtown Covington. The month is filled with special events like wine tastings and Vintners’ Dinners, during which participating restaurants cook gourmet meals served with wine pairings. Proceeds benefit marketing for local businesses through nonprofit organizations.

FWD Hong Kong employees fuel changes with every step for Weez Walk 2024: Standing strong for youth mental health

0

HONG KONG, April 18, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Weez Walk 2024 (“Weez Walk”), organised by Weez Project and KELY Support Group (collectively “the organisers”) and sponsored by FWD Hong Kong (“FWD”), was recently concluded with remarkable success. The event attracted over 820 participants, united in their commitment to supporting youth mental health. Participants joined hands, showing solidarity and support, as they came together to raise awareness and funds for the cause. As the event’s platinum sponsor, FWD fully embraced the fundraising event and rallied its staff teams to take part, raising over HKD110,000. All net proceeds were donated to KELY Support Group’s youth mental health programmes and services, demonstrating FWD’s core value of caring for the community.

Paul Tse, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer of FWD Hong Kong and Macau, said, “FWD, as the platinum sponsor of Weez Walk this year, is delighted at our colleagues’ enthusiasm and support for this event. FWD Group’s international mental health survey1 conducted earlier revealed that nearly 80% of people in Hong Kong have or know someone who has experienced mental health challenges. Yet, many of them may not actively seek professional help due to a lack of understanding of one’s own situation. Sharing a common goal, FWD supports the organisers and strives to prioritise youth mental health, raise awareness, and ensure appropriate support for mental wellbeing. FWD has consistently incorporated mental health protection elements into different products and services2 , encouraging the public to proactively care for their mental health.”

FWD successfully completed the FWD x Weez Walk kick-off ceremony early this year with 18 FWD teams, about 70 participants, joining. The ceremony was attended by Tony Bruno, Co-founder of Weez Project and the Board Member of KELY Support Group, Godi Li, Acting Executive Director of KELY Support Group, and Andy Leung, a prominent local singer and FWD’s special guest. Accompanied by Paul Tse, they shared valuable insights about Weez Walk, emphasised the importance of supporting youth mental health, and provided tips on how to stay physically and mentally healthy. They led stretching exercises to prepare for the 60-km coastal walk.

Tony Bruno, Co-founder of Weez Project and Board Member of KELY Support Group, said, “We are grateful for the support of FWD, who encouraged everyone to be more aware of the mental health of those around us, especially youth. The unity and enthusiasm demonstrated by the FWD teams were truly inspiring! Through this event, we hope participants can find joy in running while building a supportive culture within the community.”

“Proper stress relief is an essential part of maintaining physical and mental wellbeing,” said Andy Leung. “Adults can take an extra step to understand and support young people in various ways. For instance, I have shared music with them to provide encouragement and positivity, and having participated in cross country running and marathons lately, I felt much more energised and accomplished when overcoming challenging moments.”

The Weez Walk 2024 had successfully concluded.  Participants in the Weez Walk 2024 can choose to complete the 60-km coastal trail around Hong Kong Island in-one-go or by stages sections, individually or in groups, while enjoying the beautiful sceneries along the way. The event also features stage challenges to promote mental health conversations and mutual support.

Olivia Munn is going through medically induced menopause after breast cancer treatment. Here’s what that means.

0

Olivia Munn is in medically induced menopause as a result of treatment to keep her breast cancer from recurring, the actress told People in an exclusive new interview. Munn, who last month revealed she’d undergone a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with luminal B, told the magazine that treatment for the aggressive form of breast cancer included four surgeries in the span of just 10 months and, now, hormone-suppressing treatment that has triggered menopausal symptoms. “I’m constantly thinking it’s hot, my hair is thinning and I’m tired a lot,” she told People. So what does it mean to be in medically induced menopause? Here’s what to know.

What is medically induced menopause and what treatments cause it?

Menopause occurs when the ovaries’ production of two sex hormones — estrogen and progesterone — slows and eventually stops as a result of the normal aging process, typically beginning between ages 45 and 55, according to the National Institute on Aging. As these hormones decline, periods become irregular and eventually stop altogether, and a number of other physiological changes are prompted.

Some medical treatments can send people into menopause early. Medically induced menopause can be triggered by several different types of treatments for breast, ovarian or uterine cancer or, less commonly, for endometriosis. According to BreastCancer.org, these include:

  • Surgical removal of the ovaries, uterus or both to treat or prevent cancer and, in some cases, endometriosis

  • Radiation to treat cancer (including ovarian, uterine or colorectal cancer)

  • Chemotherapy to treat cancer

  • Hormone suppression therapy to treat or prevent recurrences of hormone-positive breast, ovarian or uterine cancer

In Munn’s case, hormone suppression treatment is being used to stop her ovaries from producing estrogen to help prevent her breast cancer from returning after she had surgery to remove the cancer and both breasts, she told People. According to Munn, whose type of cancer is fueled by hormones, she hasn’t needed chemotherapy or radiation, but hormone suppressing treatment to cut off this fuel source should reduce the chances that tumors can form again. “If somebody has an estrogen-sensitive tumor, doctors try to block their estrogen production, so they use these drugs that basically shut the ovaries down,” Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, co-director of the sexuality, intimacy and menopause for cancer survivors program at Yale University’s Smilow Cancer Center, tells Yahoo Life.

What are the symptoms of medically induced menopause?

Menopause, whether induced by age or medication, is the same, so the symptoms are identical. Common symptoms, according to the Mayo Clinic include:

For people going through medically induced menopause, the difference is that these changes are happening more suddenly. “It’ll act really quickly,” Minkin says. She notes that about 20% of women don’t get hot flashes when they go through menopause but, for people like Munn going through medically induced menopause, hot flashes are probably more common. “These people are going from a young person’s level of estrogen to menopause, so we do tell people that it can be sudden.”

While people on hormone suppressing therapies for breast cancer can’t take hormone replacement therapy, there are prescriptions and herbal treatments that can help ease symptoms, says Minkin, who discusses some of these options on her website, MadameOvary.com.

How long does medically induced menopause last?

That depends on what treatment has triggered menopause. For those who have surgery to remove the ovaries, uterus or both, menopause will be permanent and, if the ovaries were removed, it begins immediately. After chemotherapy, sometimes the ovaries begin producing estrogen and menopause ends. But sometimes they don’t, Minkin says.

For those taking hormone-suppressing medications, such as Munn, menopause will last as long as the course of treatment does. According to a National Institutes of Health study, breast cancer survivors are on these medications for an average of 4.04 years. Minkin says that anywhere from five to 10 years of treatment is common, depending on the type and stage of breast cancer someone was diagnosed with.

Once someone who was otherwise premenopausal stops taking these types of medications, the ovaries should resume producing estrogen and progesterone again and menstrual cycles will resume. One study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility in 2016 found that periods resumed within two years of treatment for 90% of women, meaning they were no longer in menopause.

Can a woman have children after going through medically induced menopause?

Yes — at least in theory. “If the woman is fairly young, she does the medication for five years and then stops it and her ovaries do come back” — meaning her body is actively producing estrogen and progesterone to release eggs — “then that’s OK as far as childbearing, and she may well be able to get pregnant,” Minkin says. BreastCancer.org also suggests that a woman’s fertility will return after treatment has ended.

It’s not guaranteed, however. Minkin says that if a woman has viable eggs, then she may still be able to conceive with IVF. But “if a woman stops therapies and the ovaries don’t wake up, then she’s gone through menopause.”
