Choosing a New Dentist…

Take your time choosing a dentist and don’t wait for an emergency dental problem to find one! Our blogging team have identified below several things to consider when selecting one.

Location and office hours

Choose a dentist close to your home or place of work. This will make it easier to schedule visits, avoid the stress of traffic congestion and ensures you arrive on time. Also, make sure that the dental office is open on the days and at the times when you are able to schedule an appointment.

Cost

Does the dentist accept your medical insurance cover? Does the dentist offer multiple payment options (credit cards, personal checks, payment plans)? If your insurance plan requires referrals to specialists, can this dentist provide them?

Also, given that costs vary from practice to practice. Get estimates of what your dentist might charge for common procedures such as fillings, crowns or root canal work to be done. Even though you may have dental insurance, you may be paying required to pay part of the costs yourself above certain levels.

It’s important to note that it’s worth it to pay a little extra to find a dentist who will give you excellent care in an event which you feel comfortable.

Personal comfort

One of the most important things to consider when you choose a dentist is whether you feel comfortable with that person. Do you feel comfortable enough to be able to explain symptoms and ask questions without feeling awkward or like you are imposing on their time? Do you feel like the dentist hears and understands your concerns? Would you feel comfortable asking for pain medicine, expressing your fear or anxiety, or asking in depth questions about a procedure?

Professional Qualifications

The dentist’s reception should be able to tell you about the dentist’s training, registration details and qualifications. The office also should have policies available to you on infection control. If the staff seems uncomfortable answering these questions, or you are uncomfortable with their answers, consider finding another practice. You can also obtain information about a dentist’s qualifications from the local dental association and Government Licensing Board who oversee the licensing of dentists.

Emergency Care

Find out what happens if you have an emergency, either during normal office hours, at night or on a weekend. A dentist should not refer you to a hospital emergency room. You should be able to contact your dentist or be referred to a suitable alternative dentist at any time by calling their reception during or after work hours.

How To Find a Dentist

Here are some suggestions on finding dentists to evaluate:

People to ask:

  • Your friends and family— Friends and family members are a great resource to learn about a trusted dentist. They can tell you about the personality of the dentist and office staff, and answer your questions. Here are some good questions to ask:
    • How well does the dentist explain treatment options?
    • Was he or she kind, gentle and understanding?
    • How long do you have to sit in the waiting room?
    • Do you feel comfortable asking questions?
    • How does the office handle emergencies?
    • How long do you have to wait for an appointment?
    • How are bills handled?
  • Your Current Dentist— If you are moving, ask your current dentist if he or she knows of someone to recommend near your new home.
  • Your Current Doctor— Your physician may be able to provide some names of dentists.
  • Local Dentist Reviews — If you are wanting a specific procedure, check Google reviews of dentists operating in your area that do that work for insights into past client thoughts on their experience. Then check their website to investigate the dentists philosophy.

Places to call:

  • Your dental insurance company— Your insurer will provide names and contact information for dentists in your area who are approved providers of dental services. Usually you will pay a lower fee if you use these dentists under your policy. Your insurer also may have other information, such as whether the dentist accepts new patients, does veneer work, implants etc.
  • Your Local Hospital– Some hospitals have their own dental clinics, or can recommend local dentists.
  • Your Local Dental Association —A dental association can provide names of dentists who are current and members of good standing.

Besides all of the above  possibilities to locate a suitable dentist to call, you can also check the yellow pages, do a Google search for local dentists, check business directory listings and dentists on social media.

Why Select Polished Concrete Floors?

0

Polished concrete is a hard wearing floor. It’s easy to maintain, easy to clean, and it’s stylish. That’s why so many interior designers, architects as well as home and business owners choose polished concrete flooring for their residential, commercial, or industrial projects.

It’s resistant to industrial chemicals, oils, food stains, greases, and fatty materials, so it’s very easy to clean. Thanks also to its reflective quality, it bounces light around a room, making the ambience appear lighter and brighter.

Specialist contractors mechanically grind the floor, polish and seal the concrete, or add a range of gloss finishes if that is desired. They can suggest the most cost-effective finish for the purpose of the project.

BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE FLOORS

Our research found a large number of benefits of concrete floors including these:

  • By utilising the concrete floor slab as your finished floor, the environmental costs associated with the manufacture of other floor coverings, adhesives and all installation materials are eliminated. An eco-friendly solution that a lot of property owners are looking for to meet ‘green building’ ratings.
  • The random variety of stones in the polished concrete makes each floor unique and very low maintenance.
  • Polished floors are easy to clean and when finished look great. The floor’s sealer repels spillages & stains and easily cleaned up.
  • These floors do not harbour dust mites as carpet does, so a hypo-allergenic surface for home and business owners.
  • Polished concrete does not give off volatile organic compounds, (VOC’s) which can be found in composite timber flooring and coatings such as epoxies.
  • We all know that concrete floors are long lasting, durable and outlast any other flooring alternative.
  • There is a cost for polishing and sealing the floor, but over time it becomes more cost effective than vinyl, timber, carpet, and tiles which eventually will need replacing.

SK chemicals, Dongsung Chemical, and Black Yak Collaborate on Commercializing Sustainable Footwear

  • Revolutionizes cushioning with high-elasticity biomass-based materials
  • Unified domestic industries go beyond performance to promote sustainability in the outdoor industry

SEONGNAM, South Korea, April 19, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — SK chemicals (CEO Ahn Jae-hyun), Dongsung Chemical (Co-CEOs Baek Jin-woo and Lee Man-woo), and BYN Black Yak (Chairman Kang Tae-sun, hereinafter Black Yak) announced on the 18th that they’ve developed sustainable footwear materials using the naturally-derived material “ECOTRION” and applied them to Black Yak’s “Trekking Shoes 343 MAX.”

Trekking shoes commercialized by SK chemicals, Dongsung Chemical, and Black Yak

Consumers are attracted to the trekking shoes, launched as a new product this spring, because they satisfy both the high functionality required for outdoor activities and the value consumption trend for eco-friendly materials that reduce greenhouse gases.

The three companies introduced this product after a year of collaboration. SK chemicals is the supplier of 100% bio-based polyol “ECOTRION,” while Dongsung Chemical develops the bio-polyurethane resin “NEOPAN®” for footwear using this as a raw material. Utilizing this material, Black Yak produced the “Foot Pillow Cushioning Foam,” which is applied to the heel support layer of the midsole to minimize loading on the ankle and knee joints.

The midsole of trekking shoes is a key component that determines the footwear’s weight and acts like a car’s suspension to provide the level of function. Cushioning is important because the midsole must absorb the impact on the body and ensure safe strides, even on rough terrain.

Dongsung Chemical’s bio-polyurethane resin “NEOPAN” for footwear maintains the high elasticity and flexibility of existing polyurethane resins while using bio-based raw materials, providing the shock absorption function of the “Foot Pillow Cushioning Foam.”

ECOTRION, utilized in NEOPAN, is an eco-friendly material that uses raw materials that reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 40% in comparison to conventional petrochemical raw materials. It is utilized in the production of spandex, artificial leather, and urethane elastic materials that are challenging to recycle. ECOTRION has one less carbon atom in its chemical structure compared to petrochemical materials, which gives it a helical-shaped polymer structure that enables the production of products with high elastic resilience, similar to a spring.

Kim Eung-soo, Head of SK chemicals’ Green Materials Business Division, stated, “Bio-materials, along with recycled plastics, are one of the promising alternatives to replace petrochemical materials. We plan to actively highlight the sustainability and functionality of PO3G, focusing on big brands that are leading the sustainable trend with bio-materials.”

National Park Week is coming up — and that means free entry for visitors

0

Visitors to national parks will get free admission on April 20 as the federal government waives entrance fees to commemorate the start of National Park Week.

National Park Week runs for nine days, from April 20 to April 28.

The National Park Service oversees 429 park sites in the U.S. Of them, 63 are national parks. The remainder are national monuments, national battlefields and national historic sites, for example.

More from Personal Finance:
4 big ways to save on your next trip
Don’t let this passport quirk upend your next vacation
2024 is the ‘year of globetrotting’

Most offer free entrance all the time. However, 108 parks don’t — including some of the most popular, like Grand Canyon, Zion, Rocky Mountain, Acadia, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Joshua Tree and Glacier national parks.

Their entrance fees — which typically range from $20 to $35 per vehicle — will be waived on April 20.

Fee structures can vary: Some parks may charge per person instead of per vehicle, and there may also be different fees for motorcycles, for example.

April 20 is one of six days in 2024 when access is free to all national parks. They include:

  • Jan. 15: Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday
  • April 20: First day of National Park Week
  • June 19: Juneteenth
  • Aug. 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
  • Sept. 28: National Public Lands Day
  • Nov. 11: Veterans Day

Be aware of additional entry requirements

There’s a caveat, however. While all parks may be free on these days, some still require an additional reservation for entry. Those reservations generally come with an extra fee.

For example, Yosemite National Park in California requires reservations to drive into or through the park during peak hours — between 5 am and 4 pm local time — on many days this year. They include holidays and weekends between April 13 and June 30, and every day from July 1 through August 16, for example.

Yosemite visitors won’t be allowed entry without making an online reservation ahead of time. They cost $2, are nonrefundable and are valid for three consecutive days.

National parks forced to deal with overcrowding

Additionally, it may make financial sense for visitors to buy an annual national park pass even if they plan to visit during a free entrance day, depending on the trip itinerary, Mary Cropper, travel advisor and senior U.S. specialist at Audley Travel, previously told CNBC.

The $80 annual pass grants unlimited entrance to national parks and other federal recreation areas. Some groups can get reduced-price or even free annual passes.

For example, a pass would likely be a better option if you plan to visit multiple parks in one trip, Cropper said.

“You want to do the math,” she said.

Airport chaos, sleeping in metro stations, no running water: Dubai’s flood mayhem continues

0

TOPSHOT – Cars are stranded on a flooded street in Dubai following heavy rains on April 18, 2024. Dubai’s giant highways were clogged by flooding and its major airport was in chaos as the Middle East financial centre remained gridlocked on April 18, a day after the heaviest rains on record.

The United Arab Emirates continues to reel from floods caused by the heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the desert state, with airlines, banks, and city transport facing major disruptions and service outages.

Roughly a year’s worth of rain pummeled the normally bone-dry Gulf country in a span of just 12 hours. And in many homes and businesses across Dubai and other emirates, running water and power are no longer functioning.

“The shower isn’t working.” “Can’t flush the toilet.” “Nothing is coming out of the taps.” Those and other similar messages flooded Whatsapp groups in Dubai on Wednesday and Thursday, as many residents living in villas found themselves stuck inside, more than a foot of water flooding the roads outside their houses and submerging their cars.

One widely-shared message urged: “DO NOT walk through flooded areas and DO NOT touch metallic objects on the ground while in water,” warning of electric shocks. Still, with their cars out of commission and taxis avoiding flooded areas, some residents who ran out of food ventured out to buy groceries anyway.

“Wear trainers and shorts and bring a backpack to carry your food back,” one resident of the upmarket Al Manara residential neighborhood advised. Video footage from some neighborhoods showed locals on surfboards and even jet skis to get around. Beiruti Flame Grill, a local Lebanese restaurant, was one of many Dubai businesses completely submerged — its staff are using a raft to get around the neighborhood.

“Some friends of ours have lost almost everything — houses up to waist in water. Been horrible for lots of people,” one resident, who declined to be named due to professional restrictions, told CNBC.

For others, the weather disaster brought out the best in their communities.

“Our community has honestly been amazing, banded together and helped each other where they could,” Samantha Denichaud, a movement therapist living in Dubai, told CNBC. “I think it’s been a time where neighbors who otherwise would never have connected have gotten to know one another. It’s been horrible but also strangely amazing.”

She described residents cooking meals and donating blankets and toiletries to security and maintenance workers who were unable to get back to their homes.

Some parts of the UAE saw over 100 mm of rain between Tuesday and Wednesday — a 75-year record since the country began recording rainfall, according to country’s National Centre of Meteorology. The government on Tuesday issued a red warning, shuttering offices, school and banks across the country. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Authority warned residents to stay home and park vehicles in elevated spots away from flood-prone areas.

Hundreds of cars were left abandoned on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Highway as drivers’ engines died while water rose around them. The city’s metro became an impromptu overnight shelter, as people working in and around some stations couldn’t get home.

While water levels in some areas are receding and parts of the city are completely dry, some are still too submerged for maintenance and repair services to access. Police cars are blocking certain roads deemed too dangerous, while pumping trucks are working to empty the streets of water.

A massive cleanup is underway and will have to continue for some time. The UAE’s Ministry of Interior on Wednesday evening announced the “end of the weather fluctuations” and said efforts continue to “complete the recovery phase.” Field work teams will “continue their intensive efforts to ensure full recovery and the return of life to normal in all affected areas,” the ministry’s statement said.

Dubai’s airport was a scene of chaos, as frustrated travelers were told they would be unable to fly. The airport urged travelers not to come to the airport unless absolutely necessary, and suspended check-ins until Thursday morning.

For those who landed before arriving flights were suspended, getting home was also an endeavor.

“The airport staff told everyone to get onto the metro for two stops and then to get on the bus replacement service … We got there and there was no replacement service,” one British resident of Dubai coming back from a holiday told CNBC. “Seemed like the airport was just trying to offload bodies further down the line … eventually our mate came in a pickup and got us back home.”

In a statement, a Dubai Airports spokesperson said the airport was “working to restore operations as swiftly as possible amidst these challenging circumstances,” and said that “due to crowding, access to Terminal 1 is now strictly limited to passengers with confirmed departures.” It added that “there are no rebooking facilities available at the terminal.”

Many others are still stuck overseas, as waves of travelers were home-bound this week following the Eid holiday at the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Customers took to X to complain about long wait times trying to contact airlines’ customer support, or not being able to contact a human at all.

“Our Contact Centres are experiencing a large volume of interactions due to heavy rains in Dubai and you may experience long wait times before we can answer you,” a notice on Emirates Airline’s website read, asking that customers refrain from calling if their flight is not in the next 48 hours.

For Fanny Balleuil, a French resident of the UAE, being stuck in Bahrain — where she was diverted en route back home to Dubai — is actually more of a blessing in disguise. Her housemates told her that her room was completely flooded; it’s uninhabitable until the water is pumped out by maintenance workers, who can’t access her neighborhood until Friday at the earliest.

“My flight got canceled — I’m stuck in Bahrain, and it’s actually a cute country,” she said. “I never would have visited without this happening!”

Alaska Airlines 2024 forecast tops estimates after loss from Boeing Max grounding

Alaska Airlines forecast second-quarter and full-year earnings well ahead of estimates on Thursday thanks to strong travel demand, despite a first-quarter loss stemming from a midair blowout of a door plug on a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9 in January.

Alaska forecast adjusted earnings per share of between $2.20 and $2.40, above the $2.12 analysts polled by LSEG expected. For 2024, the carrier expects earnings ranging from $3.25 to $5.25 a share, well above the average of $4.36.

The company’s shares were up more than 4% in morning trading.

Delta and United have also forecast strong travel demand for 2024 will drive earnings.

The airline received $162 million from Boeing for the Jan. 5 accident, which caused the Federal Aviation Administration to briefly ground the planes. Alaska said it expects additional compensation from the manufacturer.

The Seattle-based carrier reported a net loss of $132 million, or $1.05 a share for the first quarter, down from $142 million, or $1.11 a share a year earlier. It also reported revenue of $2.2 billion for the first quarter, slightly above the estimated $2.19 billion analysts polled by LSEG expected and 2% above last year.

Adjusting for one-time items, Alaska posted a net loss of 62 cents a share, less than the $1.05 per-share loss analysts were expecting, according to LSEG.

Aroma from Thailand, rooibos tea from South Africa, wine from Russia, milk powder from Finland, cashmere sweaters from Mongolia and other products are authentic and have various styles, which aroused great interest of the audience.

At this exhibition, “The World’s Specialty” specially invited the embassies of Mongolia, Ireland, Thailand, Egypt, Croatia, Argentina, Finland, Indonesia, Mozambique, El Salvador and ten other countries to record videos to help. A dialogue of economy, trade and culture across regions as well as media stopped many visitors at the exhibition site.

In order to make the audience better feel the atmosphere of the fourth Consumer Expo, Hainan TV launched three different ways of live streaming. During the period of development, the live streaming area invited a number of influencers and professionals to discuss the Expo and spread it on the network platform; The “slow live streaming” will synchronize the dynamic real-time of the exhibition hall; In addition, the livestreaming tour of the Expo starts from the exhibition hall, and takes the audience to launch a journey of discovery and feel more highlights of the Expo.

“The World’s Specialty” pavilion also possesses an AI photo-taking area for visitors. Paired with our customized scenes, viewers can leave their own photos.

It is worth mentioning that the fourth season of “The World’s Specialty” also officially started filming at the scene of the Consumer Expo on April 13. From the perspective of a third party, the program team will participate in the on-site work of the Expo with the Embassy of Ireland—-the guest country of the Expo, and the Embassy of Mongolia—-the first-time participating country, to show the real experience of the participating countries in a three-dimensional manner. While sharing the treasures and good products of the two countries, the story of cultural exchanges is condensed on fresh products. In a real sense, ” The World’s Specialty ” belongs to Hainan, the whole country and the world.

Extending from TV programs to cultural IP, and then entering the high-level professional exhibition, Hainan TV’s “The World’s Specialty” is not only an exploration of the industrial chain, but also a large survey of consumer preferences. It is believed that in the future, the new way of e-selling goods with the background of global cultural exchanges of “The World’s Specialty” will meet users’ more expectations for quality consumption.
