Why see Wyoming? Here are some of the Cowboy State’s top attractions

0

Sitting rife with untouched land where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains, Wyoming is prime real estate for some of America’s greatest natural phenomena.

Serving as home to 10 national parks, 12 state parks and some 28 historic sites, the state is just as rich in nature as it is in relics from the cowboys, gunslingers and frontiersmen of generations gone by.

Here is a quick glance at some top attractions that set the “Equality State” on par with some of the biggest tourist destinations in the country.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY, MARCH 1, 1872, MAJESTIC YELLOWSTONE BECOMES AMERICA’S FIRST NATIONAL PARK

Check out this list.

Yellowstone National Park

Nestled in the northwest corner of Wyoming, Yellowstone National Parkis the oldest and perhaps most recognizable national park in the U.S.

Established in 1872 under the Grant administration, the sprawling Yellowstone National Park is known for its more than 10,000 hydrothermal features. Over 500 of these are geysers, including Old Faithful – which erupts at intervals of no more than two hours, and is one of just six geysers in the park whose eruptions rangers can reliably predict.

Yellowstone is also known for its diverse wildlife – including the only bison population that’s been native to the continental U.S. since prehistory.

Devils Tower

Standing tall over Crook County is Devils Tower, a rock formation protruding some 1,267 feet above the nearby Belle Fourche River.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL: 50 MUST-SEE LANDMARKS THAT TELL OUR NATIONAL STORY

Its impressive stature is far from the only distinction this crown jewel of the Black Hills holds.

Devils Tower is also the country’s first national monument, with its status being declared under the Antiquities Act in 1906.

Devils Tower is also considered sacred to the Northern Plains and Kiowa tribes indigenous to the region – and got its English moniker when an interpreter for Colonel Richard Irving Dodge misunderstood its native name as “Bad God’s Tower.”

Old Trail Town

Located just outside Yellowstone and bearing the namesake of legendary showman William Frederick “Buffalo Bill” Cody, the Park County town of Cody is also home to one of America’s most unique, complete and authentic exhibits dedicated to documenting life in the Old West.

US NATIONAL PARK MAY SOON HAVE MASSIVE PIECE OF LAND AUCTIONED OFF

The Old Trail Town is an open-air museum comprised of 26 authentic, historic buildings originally constructed between 1879 and 1901. Many of these were dismantled at their original sites across Wyoming and neighboring Montana, before being transported to their current home along Cody’s western outskirts for reassembly and display.

The Old Trail Town is also home to some 100 horse-drawn vehicles, and an extensive collection of artifacts from frontiersmen and local Native populations alike.

Fort Laramie

Located in Goshen County near the Nebraska border, the Fort Laramie National Historic Site spans some 833 acres of land once used as an outpost for furriers, diplomats, and military officials along the Oregon Trail.

Founded in 1834 by prominent fur trader William Sublette and partner Robert Campbell, Fort Laramie cycled through various owners – and names – over its first few years as a trading post.

Later in its life, it was purchased by the U.S. Army and used to supervise westward migratory routes.

As westward expansion continued and newer, more efficient routes were forged, Fort Laramie gradually fell into disuse – and by the end of 1890, had been vacated completely.

While initially left to be reclaimed by nature, Fort Laramie’s 1938 acquisition by the National Park Service has also allowed what’s left of it to be preserved – and the Historic Site attracts a modest total of about 46,000 annual visitors in its current state.

89th CMEF in Shanghai Elevates Global Medical Device Trade to The Next Level

0

SHANGHAI, April 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The 89th edition of the China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) witnessed an impressive turnout of over 200,000 attendees from more than 150 countries. Prominent companies in the industry seized the opportunity to showcase their cutting-edge products and comprehensive solutions, covering every aspect of the industry chain. The exhibition served as a dynamic platform for collaboration, innovation, and exploration, significantly boosting global medical device trade.

CMEF, over four decades, has grown into a multifaceted expo for the medical device industry, featuring innovation showcases, commercial trade, and knowledge exchange. It provides a key platform for launching and promoting advanced medical technologies and products.

This year, the exhibition featured nearly 5,000 renowned global enterprises with flagship products on display. Diverse categories were designed to explore emerging trends and prospects. Key categories include:

  • Medical Robotics: This year, it showcased multiple China’s homegrown new products, including a four-arm robotic surgical system approved for clinical use in complex procedures covering the thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic regions.
  • High-end Medical Devices: A variety of innovative equipment was on display. For example, the apex platform, equipped with technologies throughout the imaging chain, offers an effortless workflow model of efficiency to assist in handling imaging challenges.
  • AI-enabled healthcare digitization: More companies are integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analysis, and machine learning, to provide healthcare diagnosis and treatment with deeper insights and intelligent decision support. For example, the Chest CT AI solution utilizes AI-powered assistance to analyze chest CT images, streamlining the process and enhancing the efficiency and diagnostic accuracy for doctors.

This year, CMEF kicked off on April 11th, coinciding with World Parkinson’s Day and broadening new horizons in diagnosing and treating this disease. For example, Siemens unveiled their latest innovation, the MAGNETOM Cima.X. With Gemini Gradients featuring 2001 mT/m at 200 T/m/s, it delivers unparalleled whole-body performance.  GE Healthcare also brought their high-end all-digital PET/CT product, which can improve photon collection efficiency by 60%, allowing clinical practitioners to obtain high-definition, low-dose images with ultra-high unit sensitivity. It aids in the early diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and assessment of cognitive impairments.

In 2023, China’s medical device sector saw a 9.34% average growth rate in trade, with exports growing by 8.21% and imports increasing by 10.79%. Import values of medical equipment and IVD products exceeded exports. On March 13th, the State Council officially launched a new round of large-scale equipment upgrades and trade-ins for consumer goods. The initiative emphasizes the need to encourage eligible medical institutions to accelerate the upgrading and transformation of medical equipment.

CMEF, as a global platform for trade cooperation, enables international exchanges, fostering cross-border trade, and supports multilateral collaborations in diverse sectors. It attracts participants from over 30 countries and regions, catalyzing technological and trade exchanges and supporting enterprises in accessing global markets. The upcoming exhibition is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen from October 12th to 15th, 2024.

World’s busiest airports show surge in international travel. Here are the rankings

0

British Airways Airbus A319 aircraft takes off from Heathrow Airport in London, Britain, May 17, 2021.

John Sibley | Reuters

International travel roared back last year, pushing airports from London to Tokyo up in a global ranking of passenger traffic.

Dubai International Airport ranked as the second busiest in 2023, up from fifth place in 2022 and fourth place in 2019, according to Airports Council International’s preliminary ranking, which was released on Monday. Passenger traffic to Tokyo Haneda International Airport jumped 55% last year from 2022, and the airport ranked fifth, up from 16th place a year earlier.

Global airports served 8.5 billion passengers last year, up 27% from 2022 but still about 6% below pre-pandemic counts, ACI said, citing preliminary figures.

The resurgence of international travel has been a bright spot for airlines with big international networks, while ultra-low-cost, domestic-focused U.S. airlines have struggled in recent months. Domestic U.S. airports continued to post big gains in passenger counts, but some slipped in the rankings compared with the middle of the pandemic, when international travel restrictions limited long-haul trips abroad.

Nearly 78 million people used Denver International Airport last year, up 12% from 2022, but the airport, a major hub of United Airlines, fell in ACI’s ranking to sixth place from third.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta Air Lines‘ biggest hub, once again topped the list of the busiest airports, serving 104.7 million passengers, ACI said.

Here are the 2023 rankings (with 2022 rankings in parentheses):

  1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (1)
  2. Dubai International Airport (5)
  3. Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (2)
  4. London Heathrow (8)
  5. Tokyo Haneda International Airport (16)
  6. Denver International Airport (3)
  7. Istanbul Airport (7)
  8. Los Angeles International Airport (6)
  9. Chicago O’Hare International Airport (4)
  10. New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (9)

Within PRU JAMPA Community House is MICHELIN Green Star-awarded restaurant JAMPA. Helmed by chef Rick Dingen, each dish in the all-day dining concept is nutritionally balanced and crafted with peak seasonal ingredients sourced from PRU JAMPA farm at Tri Vananda, and a network of local farmers and fishermen. With sustainability at the core of JAMPA, a closed-loop system was established to ensure nothing goes to waste. Vegetable scraps are diverted to the chicken coup that supplies the restaurant daily with fresh eggs, and other organic matter is composted and used as fertilizer, reducing CO2 emissions, and underscoring the importance of pesticide-free farming.

As Tri Vananda sets the gold standard for luxury wellness in Asia, it signals a transformative shift to aspire to a more mindful and sustainable way of living.

I’m a shopping editor, and here are 4 tips on how to save even more money at the Sephora Sale this weekend

0

Not to put myself in the spotlight, but I don’t think anyone gets as excited as I do for the semi-annual Sephora Sale. If you’re a beauty lover like me, I’m sure you already have your eyes set on a few goodies from the retailer. However, not only do I shop for a living, but I’m also a Sephora Rouge member, which is the highest Sephora Beauty Insider tier. That means I’ve learned a few hacks for shopping the Sephora sale without spending an entire paycheck.

Officially called the Sephora Savings Event, the beauty savings extravaganza is happening online and in stores for all Sephora Beauty Insider members (you can sign up for free!), and everything is on sale. Yes, everything. All you need to do is use the code YAYSAVE at checkout. Depending on your Beauty Insider status, there are different deals for different tiers. Rouge members (like me!) save 20%, VIB members save 15% and Insiders save 10%. Oh, and everyone gets to save 30% on Sephora Collection! Make sense?

Because Sephora’s spring sale and all of the unreal savings that come with it can be super overwhelming, I broke down my top tips for saving money at Sephora. I mean, we all want the best value on shiny new products, right? Stick with me, and I can teach you my expert ways. But hurry! The sale ends on April 15, and things are selling out fast.

Tip #1: Check out the gift and value sets

A new season means that Sephora is blessing us with new gift sets (upon gift sets, upon gift sets). Shopping said sets can save so much money in the long run because the products are already bundled together for less. Add that Beauty Insider discount and you’re saving even more.

Pioneering Cutting-Edge Technologies: High-End Medical Imaging Developer VITAL HealthCare Debuts at CMEF

0

SHANGHAI, April 13, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — On Apr. 11, 2024, VITAL HealthCare, one of the 5 core business divisions of the VITAL Group, marked a stunning debut at the 89th China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) in Shanghai. Drawing on the Group’s core competence in R&D and its wealth of top-quality raw materials, devices, modules, and system R&D resources, VITAL HealthCare has captured the spotlight with its forward-looking product development plan on this inaugural showcase.

At the exhibition, VITAL HealthCare unveiled a portfolio of advanced imaging solutions. Spearheading the lineup was its in-development photon counting CT (PCCT) system – VITA PCCT, a next-generation CT imaging technique poised to redefine the future of imaging diagnostics. Also featured were the VITA 7.0T ultra-high field MRI and VITA PET/CT, both in the pipeline, as well as the commercially available ASTA 1.5T superconducting MRI. These products, each with its unique strength, are pillars of support for early detection and precise diagnosis of medical conditions. They also exemplify VITAL HealthCare’s dedication to pioneering the cutting edge of medical imaging and building an industry-wide matrix of high-end medical imaging products.

VITA PCCT
VITA PCCT

Revolutionizing conventional CT technology, PCCT adopts photon counting-based tomography using CZT (Cadmium Zinc Telluride, CdZnTe) detectors for photon counting and energy analysis, which allows accurate measurement and recording of each X-ray photon that passes through to reveal unparalleled details of internal structures. PCCT’s direct imaging innovation transcends conventional CT imaging constraints of crosstalk, electronic noise, and energy mixing, significantly enhancing image resolution, which is fundamental to pinpointing minute abnormalities. In addition, PCCT’s heightened sensitivity and precision in photon counting provide improved imaging with less radiation exposure, minimizing radiation risks faced by patients. PCCT also excels in actual multi-spectral imaging through its capacity to differentiate substances and tissues by various energy signatures of photons. In an era of change and innovation, high-end medical imaging confronts a dual landscape of opportunities and challenges. By ramping up R&D investment and sharpening its technological edge, VITAL HealthCare is set to broaden its market reach while fostering collective growth in the global medical imaging industry through synergistic partnerships.

The Spanish edition of Xi Jinping on the Belt and Road Initiative is helping Latin American countries better understand and participate in the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), officials and scholars said at a seminar held for readers to share their ideas in Santiago, Chile, on April 11.

“Within the BRI framework, China and Chile have worked together effectively in the construction of infrastructure such as ports, subways and highways, as well as in the development of a science and technology center,” Yu Tao, Vice President of China International Communications Group (CICG), said at the seminar.

Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward the BRI in 2013 to boost connectivity along and beyond the ancient Silk Road routes. Chile is the first Latin American country to voice support for the initiative and sign a memorandum of understanding on Belt and Road cooperation with China.

The Spanish edition of Xi Jinping on the Belt and Road Initiative gives Latin American readers an in-depth, nuanced understanding of the initiative, thereby contributing to more productive collaboration, Yu said. CICG is China’s leading international communication institution and owns the book’s publisher, the Beijing-based Foreign Languages Press (FLP).

The book is a collection of 42 articles by President Xi on Belt and Road cooperation, dated from September 2013 to July 2018, addressing issues ranging from how and why the initiative was introduced to its principles and goals. Its English, French, Russian, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese editions have been published by the FLP for international audiences.

The book is a definitive work that is assisting all sectors of Chilean society to familiarize themselves with China’s proposals and the rationale behind them, so that the two countries can work in concert more efficiently, Ma Zhen, Political Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Chile, said.

Fernando Reyes Matta, former Chilean Ambassador to China and Director of the Center for Latin American Studies on China at Chile’s Andres Bello University, said the BRI aims to benefit the international community and the Spanish edition of Xi Jinping on the Belt and Road Initiative enables Latin American people to understand China’s concepts and policies.

Ricardo Gamboa Valenzuela, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Studies (IEI) at the University of Chile, said his institute pays great attention to China’s increasingly important role in Latin America and the rest of the world. The book provides authoritative reading materials for professors and students, giving them a deeper understanding of China.

Carlos Olguín, an associate professor at the IEI and former Director of the Asia-Pacific Department at Chile’s Foreign Ministry, Luis Ajenjo Isasi, General Manager of Radio Cooperativa, and Malva Venturelli, President of the José Venturelli Foundation, also shared their views. They all recognized the book’s role in cementing mutual trust.

Hu Kaimin, FLP President, said he hoped the book will make the initiative more popular in Chile and the rest of Latin America, build new cultural ties, and promote the two-way understanding of the Chinese and Latin American civilizations.

With the guidance of CICG and the Chinese Embassy in Chile, the seminar was organized by the FLP, CICG Center for Americas and the IEI. Approximately 50 representatives from sectors including politics, academia and culture participated in the event.
