HSA approves new asthma indication for GSK’s Trelegy Ellipta, the first once-daily single inhaler triple therapy approved for use in the treatment of both asthma and COPD in Singapore

SINGAPORE, April 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — GSK Singapore announced that the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has approved a new indication and a new strength for Trelegy Ellipta (fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol ‘FF/UMEC/VI’) for the maintenance treatment of asthma in patients aged 18 years and older who are not adequately controlled with a combination of a long-acting beta2-agonist (LABA) and an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)1. This adds to its current license for use in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and makes Trelegy Ellipta the first once-daily single inhaler triple therapy approved for use in both asthma and COPD in Singapore.

This approval is based on the CAPTAIN study which has shown that in patients uncontrolled on ICS/LABA, the additional bronchodilation provided by Trelegy had demonstrated significant improvements in lung function compared with fluticasone furoate/vilanterol (FF/VI), in a single daily dose in an easy-to-use inhaler2.

With the new approval, the available HSA-approved strength for either COPD or asthma is fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol 100/62.5/25mcg, and an additional dosage strength newly approved for asthma at fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium/vilanterol 200/62.5/25mcg.

In Singapore, the asthma mortality rate is three times higher than other developed countries such as New Zealand and the United States of America7. This could be attributed to several factors such as low adherence rates to daily medications, poor patient perception of asthma control, misuse of reliever medication and unoptimized treatment.

Locally, it was reported that 25.6% of patients with severe asthma had an emergency hospital visit in the past year8. This clinical burden translates into a substantial economic burden, both in terms of direct costs to the healthcare system and wider societal costs. In 2020, the economic burden of asthma in Singapore was estimated at SGD 1.74 billion (including both direct medical costs and productivity loss); 87% of this cost was attributed to patients with uncontrolled or partly-controlled asthma9.

Dr Ambrose added “People with uncontrolled asthma tend to adapt their lives around their symptoms. This takes a toll on their mental wellbeing as they are often wary of activities that may cause a worsening of their symptoms and result in dreaded trips to the emergency room. As such, new treatment options to empower people living with asthma with more control are crucial in giving them a better quality of life.”

About Trelegy Ellipta (FF/UMEC/VI)

FF/UMEC/VI is a combination of three molecules in a single inhaler that only needs to be taken in a single inhalation, once a day. It contains fluticasone furoate, an inhaled corticosteroid, umeclidinium, a long-acting muscarinic antagonist; and vilanterol, a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist, delivered in GSK’s Ellipta dry powder inhaler.

CAPTAIN (Clinical study of Asthma Patients receiving Triple therapy through A single INhaler) is a randomised, double-blind, active controlled, six-arm parallel group, global multicentre study evaluating FF/UMEC/VI (100/62.5/25 mcg, 200/62.5/25 mcg, 100/31.25/25 mcg, and 200/31.25/25 mcg) versus FF/VI (100/25 mcg and 200/25 mcg) given once-daily to patients whose asthma was inadequately controlled despite treatment with ICS/LABA (>250 mcg/day fluticasone propionate, or equivalent) maintenance asthma medication.

Radisson Hotel Group welcomes back Chinese travelers with new co-branded hotels and bespoke ‘Welcome China’ amenities

BRUSSELS, April 5, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Together with its owners and shareholders Jin Jiang International, Radisson Hotel Group announces its “Guan Xin” (Welcome China) program which includes the expansion of its co-branded hotels as well as a new bespoke amenity program to create a home away from home for Chinese travelers. Following the initial launch in 2019, Radisson Hotel Group will be launching eight additional cobranded properties in 2024 in EMEA across select Radisson Blu and Radisson Collection hotels, aligned with the full return of Chinese outbound travel.

Industry experts predict that 2024 will be a key year for outbound Chinese tourism to grow exponentially on the heels of the boom in domestic tourism in 2023. According to Skift, “2023 was the year of China reopening to the world, while 2024 will be the year of consolidating and growing outbound tourism.” [1] Wealthy Chinese travelers are showing a keen interest in EU destinations (13%)[2], in particular France, UK, Germany, and Italy vs other short-haul destinations in Asia, and will be travelling in 2024 with the expectation of bespoke amenities catering to their requirements, tastes, and cultural preferences.[3]

The co-branded hotels will also feature a range of new food and beverage options for Chinese speaking travelers, including the addition of traditional dishes like congee and noodles as well as curated selection of dishes available as part of the daily breakfast service. These offerings specifically tailored for the Chinese travelers, will be offered on top of the rich existing amenities for other international travelers, and communication in English and multiple foreign languages.

Kuching to Host the Largest Pickleball Tournament in Malaysia and Borneo this October

His assassin “hoped to kill MLK’s great and widespread dream of unity,” Alveda King, the civil rights leader’s niece, shared with Fox News Digital in a message to be posted on Thursday morning, April 4, on social media.

The killer failed in his mission, King wrote in her message.

The night before he was murdered, the powerful orator thundered prophetically from the pulpit of Bishop Charles Mason Temple in Memphis, “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.”

King Jr.’s death was only the first of several tragedies suffered by the family. Rev. A.D. King, Martin’s little brother – Alveda King’s father – died under mysterious circumstances the following year.

Her grandmother, Alberta King, also died shockingly. She was shot dead in 1974 in front of a Sunday congregation at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia from where the King family led the civil rights movement.

King Jr.’s life on Earth ended in Memphis. But the civil rights movement he led marched across a vast swath of the country. 

Alveda King, when asked by Fox News Digital, suggested visiting these five landmarks in the civil rights movement to learn more about the march for justice – and the price paid by her family.

1. The A.D. King home in Birmingham, Alabama

Rev. A.D. King, just 18 months younger than his brother Martin Jr., was ministering at the First Baptist Church of Ensley and leading the Birmingham Campaign of the civil rights movement in the tumultuous year of 1963.

2. The birth home of King children in Atlanta, Georgia

The Rev. Martin Luther King Sr. and his wife Alberta (Williams) King lived in a beautiful Queen Anne-style home at 501 Auburn Ave. when they welcomed three children: daughter Willie Christine and her younger brothers, Martin Jr. and Alfred Daniel (A.D.).

The home today is a centerpiece of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. 

The home is closed for an “extensive rehabilitation project” through Nov. 2025 following an attempted arson attack in December 2023. 

The exterior remains a coveted bucket-list destination for photographs and selfies. 

3. Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia

The congregation was founded in 1886 with just 13 members. Rev. Adam Daniel Williams, MLK’s Jr. grandfather, became minister in 1894.

The church blossomed and became the spiritual headquarters of the civil rights movement under the Williams-King family by the 1950s.

The church also grew famous for its choir and music, led by Alberta King, Martin Jr.’s mother. The choir performed at the Atlanta premier of the movie “Gone with the Wind” in 1939.  

Martin Luther King Jr. was both baptized at and mourned from Ebenezer Baptist on April 9, 1968. The funerals for both his brother and mother were held at the church, as well. 

4. Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama

The bridge over the Alabama River became the center of global attention on March 7, 1965, as civil rights demonstrators, marching to Birmingham in favor of voting rights, met a violent response on “Bloody Sunday.”

The Edmund Pettus Bridget today is a National Historic Landmark and the frequent site of events and commemorations in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and the battle for civil rights.

5. Monson Motor Lodge acid attack site in St. Augustine, Florida

Now the Bayfront Motel, the Monson Motor Lodge was the scene of one of the most unusual and disturbing events in the march for civil rights.

Alveda King cited it as a nearly forgotten event that speaks to the dangers faced by civil rights activists.

A bi-racial group of people plunged into the motor-lodge swimming pool on June 18, 1964, to protest segregation.

James Brock, the manager of the inn, responded by pouring acid into the pool – a potentially disfiguring and even deadly attack.

Minimise your e-waste

In a time where electronic upgrades seem infinite and we’re constantly tempted to buy that new kitchen appliance or tech gadget, it’s important that we act as conscious consumers and consider the environment before purchasing new products.

Here are some tips to help minimise your e-waste.

Consider if you really need a new item

If you purchase a new product you don’t really need, or only require for a one-off job, there’s a good chance it’s going to sit at the back of a drawer or packed away in the shed once you’re finished.

Instead, see if you can borrow or rent one first. For instance, try searching online for ‘tool library near me’ for your next odd job around the house.

Consider buying second-hand

The idea of regularly upgrading devices has become all too common in our society. With new models being released regularly, we can feel compelled to purchase the latest version. But it’s worth checking the second-hand market or purchasing an item that’s pre-loved or refurbished before buying new.

Extend the life of your electronics

Try to get the most of your products by:

  • avoiding overcharging batteries
  • using protective covers on tablets and phones.
  • keeping them clean

Donate or sell working electronics

If your electronics are still in good working condition, consider donating or selling them to others who will find a use for them. This is one of the best ways to stop unwanted electrical items from entering the waste stream.

Many charity and op-shops accept certain electrical goods, but always check with the store first.

Repair it if it’s broken

Not all devices can be repaired, but it’s often cheaper to have a product fixed instead of replacing it with a new one. It’s certainly more sustainable!

Search the web for electrical appliance repairers near you, or try a repair café. Repair cafés are workshops where you’ll find tools and materials to help you repairs things, including electrical products. You’ll find expert volunteers, with repair skills in all kinds of fields.

Be sure to check with the product’s manufacturer before completing any repairs or part replacements, as this may void the warranty.

Recycle e-waste

E-waste (electronic waste) is growing 3 times faster than any other waste stream. E-waste contains potentially hazardous and valuable materials, which don‘t belong in landfill.

To help protect our environment and recover more precious resources, the Victorian Government has banned all e-waste from landfill as of 1 July 2019. That means e-waste can’t go in any household bin.

E-waste should not be put in your rubbish or recycling bin. Take e-waste to a drop-off point in your state.

When there are no e-waste drop-off points near you

If there are currently no drop-off points near you, or you have a different electronic item to get rid of:

  • check your local council’s website for other disposal options in your area
  • pass it onto your friends, family or sell second hand, if it’s still working
  • have it collected from your home or business by Skip Bin Co.

I live in a city, so my dog is on a leash 99% of the time we’re outdoors. Although he’s just shy of two years old, we’ve gone through our fair share of leashes. Some have been too heavy, some too short. Others have gotten too dirty. I know: Not everyone is a fan of retractable leashes. There are some real dangers you should be aware of before using one. However, I live next to a large park with small trails, so this lets him run a little and explore more freely when no one is around. We’ve also used it while visiting family in the suburbs to take him out for quick breaks in their unfenced yard. To keep the tension off his neck, he wears a harness, and while walking back to our apartment, I lock it close to me so there’s some slack, like with a regular leash.
