Former England cricket champion Robin Smith dies unexpectedly aged 62

Former England batter Robin Smith has died unexpectedly aged 62.

The England and Wales Cricket Board released a statement on behalf of Smith’s family saying that he passed away at his Perth home on Monday. The cause of death remains unknown.

Smith scored 4236 runs at 43.67 across his 62 Tests between 1988-96, with nine tons and 28 half-centuries to his name, including his top score of 175 against West Indies in Antigua.

The much-loved cricket figure — who was at the first Ashes Test in Perth last week and even met with the England Lions — battled alcohol and mental health issues since retiring in 2004, but his family stressed that “should not form the basis of speculation about the cause of death”.

“It is with the deepest and most profound sense of sadness and loss that we must announce the passing of Robin Arnold Smith, beloved father of Harrison and Margaux and cherished brother of Christopher,” the family statement reads.

“Robin, known widely as ‘The Judge’, was originally born in South Africa in 1963 to parents John and Joy and is the younger brother to Christopher (Kippy) Smith.

“Robin rose to fame as one of England’s most charismatic and popular players. A brave and dashing batsman, he excelled both for Hampshire and his adopted country collecting legions of admirers and friends along the way.

“This is an immensely difficult period for us all whilst we try to come to terms with our bereavement, and we would therefore much appreciate consideration for our privacy by media and cricket followers alike.”

When he retired, Smith was described by Hampshire chair Rod Bransgrove as “the most influential player in the history of Hampshire cricket”.

ECB chair Richard Thompson paid tribute to Smith in a statement of his own.

“Robin Smith was a player who stood toe to toe with some of the quickest bowlers in the world, meeting spells of hostile fast bowling with a defiant smile and an incredible resilience,” he said.

“He did so in a way that gave England fans enormous pride, and no shortage of entertainment.

“He was a batter ahead of his time which was typified in that unforgettable unbeaten 167 from 163 balls in an ODI against Australia at Edgbaston in 1993.

“His record at Hampshire is exemplary, and he’ll be remembered rightly as a great of Hampshire CCC. We’re desperately sad to learn of his passing, and the thoughts of all of us in cricket are with his friends, family and loved ones.”

Former Aussie batter and coach Darren Lehmann simply wrote two broken hearts in a social media post referencing Smith’s passing.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has been speaking out about a new civility campaign targeting manners, flight behavior and appropriate dress for airplane travel.

Duffy recently drew attention to Pope Leo XIV in an X post complimenting the leader of the world’s Catholics on his outfit on Monday.

“Now THIS is dressing with respect,” Duffy said in a lighthearted repost of a photo of the pope on a plane. The pope was standing and talking to others as he held a baseball bat he’d just been given.

“Civility at its [peak]. Is the pope a baseball fan, or was he blessing someone’s bat?” asked an X user.

“Nobody is ever going to dress better on a plane. He kinda knocked it out of the ballpark with this one,” joked another person.

Natural Field Releases “Ashwagandha White Paper” and Landmark Liposome Research Achievements at 2025 FTA (Food Research Exchange Super Ingredients Conference)

0

HANGZHOU, China, Dec. 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Against the backdrop of the accelerated upgrading of the global functional nutrition industry, technology-driven ingredient enterprises are increasingly emerging as the core force of the industrial chain. In November 2025, the FTA (Food Research Exchange Super Ingredients Conference) was successfully held in Hangzhou, gathering renowned enterprises from the fields of functional foods, nutritional ingredients, and innovative technologies to jointly showcase the latest industry trends. Among them, Natural Field, a company with years of experience in plant active substances and liposome delivery technology, collectively released a series of scientifically significant achievements with industry strategic value. It also won important awards at the conference for its multiple co-loading liposome products, establishing itself as one of the most watched upstream innovative enterprises at this year’s event.

During the conference, Natural Field conducted in-depth exchanges with industry experts, research institutions, and brand enterprises around hot topics such as “adaptogen”, “standardization of plant active substances,” and “liposome delivery systems.” The company not only announced the white paper and multiple technical data achievements but also demonstrated the latest progress in product R&D, platform technology construction, and industrial application implementation, reflecting its forward-looking layout and comprehensive strength in driving technological innovation in the functional nutrition sector.

At the main forum of the conference, Mr. Yang Haiying, founder of Natural Field, officially released the “Ashwagandha White Paper on”. As the first domestic enterprise to publish a comprehensive document on ashwagandha, Natural Field systematically sorted out the structural characteristics, mechanism of action, market trends, and product application logic of ashwagandha’s active ingredients in the white paper. Speaking at the launch, Mr. Yang stated that the adaptogen concept has entered a stage of rapid development in the global market, but there are still discrepancies in the industry’s understanding of its mechanisms, standardization, and raw material authenticity. Therefore, systematic research and data collation are crucial to ensuring the healthy development of the market. The release of the white paper attracted great attention from research institutions, brand owners, and R&D engineers, with many participants praising it as “the most systematic professional document on ashwagandha from a scientific research perspective in China.”

In addition to the research achievements in the adaptogen field, Natural Field’s progress in liposome technology became a key technical highlight of the conference. At the liposome technology sub-forum, Dr. Duan, leader of the innovative preparation research on co-loaded liposomes at Natural Field, delivered a professional speech, detailing the company’s latest research results in liposome and co-loaded liposome technologies. His speech focused on three major challenges commonly faced by functional nutrition products in oral applications: insufficient stability, low absorption efficiency limiting efficacy, and difficulty in achieving synergistic delivery of multiple ingredients. By presenting experimental data on co-loaded liposomes for Coenzyme Q10, curcumin, and other ingredients, Dr. Duan demonstrated that through structural encapsulation design, intermolecular synergistic configuration, and liposome morphology optimization, the metabolic pathway of ingredients in the human body can be significantly improved, bioavailability enhanced, and functional performance strengthened in certain inflammatory models.

Notably, Natural Field also disclosed data on the performance of some co-loading liposomes in myocarditis and intestinal inflammation models during the presentation. These data highlighted the advantages of co-loading technology in synergistic stability, consistent efficacy, and in vivo distribution of multiple ingredients, triggering intense discussions among on-site technical personnel. After the forum, leaders from multiple participating brand enterprises communicated with Natural Field, expressing intentions to cooperate in product development, technical verification, and ingredient combination design.

Leveraging its solid scientific research strength and technical achievements, Natural Field’s raw material products won awards at this year’s Very Food Innovation Conference. Its NF Co-loading® Liposomal Coenzyme Q10 (raw material) received the “Cardiovascular Health Award” in recognition of its technical breakthroughs in stability, absorption efficiency, and process maturity. Meanwhile, NF Co-loading® Liposomal Coenzyme Q10 (finished capsule product) won the “Potential New Product Award” for its excellent application implementation capabilities. Additionally, the company’s previously developed NF Co-loading® Liposomal Curcumin had already been awarded the Gold Award for Innovation in Natural Ingredients at the 2025 CPHI, further solidifying its technical position in co-loaded liposome technology in the international market.

Beyond showcasing core scientific research achievements, Natural Field also systematically presented its “one-stop liposome service platform” to the industry during the conference. Based on years of experience in functional ingredient research, the company has established a full-process platform system covering raw material screening, liposome encapsulation design, co-loading technology development, stability test verification, efficacy model research, and finished product application support. This platform not only provides domestic brand enterprises with systematic technical support from raw materials to finished products but also attracted technical cooperation intentions from brands in Europe, America, Japan, and other regions. Industry experts commented that a company truly capable of integrating plant active substance research with delivery system construction will become a crucial ecological player in the future competition of the functional nutrition industry.

Natural Field stated that it will continue to conduct in-depth research on key technical issues in the functional nutrition industry and plans to release new data on multiple ingredient synergistic delivery, liposome structure optimization, and application stability research in the coming year. In the future, the company will continue to participate in major domestic and international industry exhibitions, maintain technical exchanges with global research teams and nutrition brands, and jointly promote the industry towards a more scientific, efficient, and safe direction.

As innovative technology plays an increasingly important role in the functional nutrition industry, Natural Field’s concentrated release at the Very Food Innovation Conference marks the industry’s transition from “raw material competition” to “technology competition.” Through continuous scientific research investment and technical integration capabilities, Natural Field is becoming a key driving force in advancing the industry into the era of efficient delivery.

Natural Field received multiple international awards for its NF Co-loading® liposomal CoQ10 and Curcumin, highlighting its breakthroughs in stability, absorption, and application innovation.

Antengene Announces IND Approval in China for Phase Ib/II Study of ATG-022 (CLDN18.2 ADC) in Combination with KEYTRUDA® (Pembrolizumab) ± Chemotherapy

0

SHANGHAI and HONG KONG, Dec. 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Antengene Corporation Limited (“Antengene“, SEHK: 6996.HK), a leading innovative, commercial-stage global biotech company dedicated to discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class and/or best-in-class medicines for autoimmune disease, solid tumors and hematological malignancies indications, today announced that the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has approved the investigational new drug (IND) application for the Phase Ib/II CLINCH-2 study evaluating ATG-022 (CLDN18.2 antibody-drug conjugate [ADC]) in combination with MSD’s (Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, USA) anti-PD-1 therapy, KEYTRUDA® (pembrolizumab), as well as ATG-022 in combination with pembrolizumab and chemotherapy.

CLINCH-2 is a Phase Ib/II study that will be led by its principal investigator Prof. Lin Shen at Beijing Cancer Hospital, the lead trial center. The study is designed to evaluate two combination regimens in patients with CLDN18.2-positive, HER2-negative, and PD-L1-positive (CPS≥1) unresectable or metastatic gastric cancer or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma (GC/GEJC): ATG-022 in combination with pembrolizumab (A+P); and ATG-022 in combination with pembrolizumab plus the CAPOX chemotherapy regimen (A+P+C). The primary objective of the study is to assess the safety and tolerability of the two combination regimens, while the secondary objectives include evaluating the regimens’ preliminary antitumor activity, assessing ATG-022’s immunogenicity, and characterizing its pharmacokinetic (PK) profile.

Antengene released updated clinical data from the Phase I/II CLINCH study of ATG-022 monotherapy in patients with advanced GC/GEJC at the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress 2025 (ESMO 2025). For details of the dataset, please refer to the press release published on October 20, 2025 (https://www.antengene.com/newsinfo/449). The results demonstrated clear differentiation for ATG-022 in both safety and efficacy. In the 1.8 mg/kg dose cohort, the incidence of grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events was only 18.2%. Moreover, the study did not observe any ocular toxicity or interstitial lung disease, and the incidence of peripheral neuropathy reported in the study was relatively low. The efficacious doses (1.8mg/kg and 2.4mg/kg) have both demonstrated an objective response rate (ORR) of 40%. This is a strong validation of ATG-022’s potential in combination with pembrolizumab and chemotherapy in the frontline setting. In addition, antitumor activity was observed across high, medium, and low CLDN18.2 expression levels, supporting the use of IHC 1+ ≥1% as the enrollment threshold for frontline combination therapy, indicating potential applicability to a much broader patient population compared to other CLDN18.2-targeting therapies. Furthermore, in the basket cohort of other CLDN18.2+ tumor types, efficacy was observed in a gynecologic tumor subtype, providing early proof of concept for potential expansion into tumor types beyond gastric cancer.

Antengene will continue to advance both the ongoing CLINCH study and the newly approved CLINCH-2 study, with plans to share updated results at upcoming medical conferences to further demonstrate the clinical potential of ATG-022.

KEYTRUDA® is a registered trademark of Merck Sharp & Dohme LLC, a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc., Rahway, NJ, USA.

New TSA policy to charge passengers nearly $50 if they don’t have acceptable ID

0

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will begin charging passengers $45 if they show up at airport checkpoints without an acceptable form of identification, such as a passport or Real ID.

The policy will be implemented starting Feb. 1, 2026, following a proposed rule published in the Federal Register that noted a previous amount of $18.

After careful review, it was determined that the expenses for the new technology and operational costs were higher than originally projected, leading to an increase in the final fee, according to senior TSA officials.

NEW TSA POLICY MAY CHARGE PASSENGERS WHO DO NOT HAVE ACCEPTABLE IDS AT CHECKPOINTS

Travelers who do not have an acceptable form of identification will be able to go online to the TSA website to complete identification steps and pay the $45 fee.

The passenger then receives an email confirmation to present to the TSA officer prior to the checkpoint.

The process is predicted to take between 10 and 15 minutes — but could take 30 minutes or longer.

The confirmation will be valid for 10 days from the day of travel, the TSA said.

Daesang to Participate in “FiE 2025” in Paris, Strengthening Global Ingredient Competitiveness

Launched in 1986, Food Ingredients Europe (FiE) is the largest food and food additive exhibition in Europe, showcasing the latest technologies and trends in food ingredients and additives. It serves as a global platform to explore essential raw materials and additives for food manufacturing, as well as the latest trends in the food industry. This year, more than 1,550 companies from approximately 135 countries and over 24,000 visitors, including professional buyers, are expected to attend.

At the exhibition, Daesang will showcase three categories of specialty high-performance ingredients, including natural seasoning ingredients, EMULAID, and microalgae, backed by its proprietary technologies developed through years of experience in the domestic and global food ingredient business. By introducing its extensive ingredient portfolio developed through long-standing fermentation expertise, the company aims to expand its overseas sales channels and strengthen partnerships with global clients to reinforce its position in the global ingredient market.

Daesang will introduce the natural seasoning ingredient “Dsavory,” which enhances natural umami while preserving the original taste of food. Dsavory enables balanced umami across a wide range of products and delivers deep flavor without using actual meat, making it applicable to soups, snacks, and alternative proteins, while supporting environmentally friendly and sustainable product development. At this year’s exhibition, Daesang will also operate a tasting session where visitors can sample nuggets and soups made with Dsavory ingredients.

Six high value amino acids including L-arginine, L-glutamine, and L-citrulline will also be exhibited. These ingredients are widely used in pharmaceuticals, health functional foods, and animal feed, and global demand continues to grow as they serve as core raw materials for nutritional fortification and functional product development.

The company will also introduce plant based protein ingredients derived from microalgae, including Green Chlorella, GoldRella, and White Chlorella. These ingredients contain protein and dietary fiber, as well as essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, making them suitable for plant based alternative foods and health functional foods. Their safety and regulatory compliance are supported by SA-GRAS (Self-Affirmed Generally Recognized as Safe) status, which authorizes their use and sale in the United States.

In addition, Daesang will introduce the modified starch “EMULAID,” which stabilizes texture and flavor by preventing the separation of oil and water. Made from waxy corn starch, it is suitable for vegan applications, has low viscosity, and dissolves easily even in cold water, enabling its use in across a wide range of manufacturing processes.
