Flight attendant on TikTok reveals luggage tag safety tip she wishes more flyers knew about

0

A flight attendant is sharing some of her top advice for airline travelers and her latest tip has reached more than 850,000 views on TikTok.

Ally Case, who said she works for American Airlines, started a series on TikTok where she shared a series of “14 Days of Travel Tips,” with one of them focused on safety and luggage.

In Case’s video, she shares “one of her top travel safety tips” about personal information being disclosed on a passenger’s luggage tag.

AIRLINE PASSENGERS COULD BE REMOVED FROM FLIGHTS FOR GOING BAREFOOT: ETIQUETTE EXPERT WEIGHS IN

“I don’t even like strangers to know my name — no chance am I going to have my phone number and home address on display,” Case captioned her video.

Instead of leaving your personal information for all to see on your luggage tag, Case recommends travelers turn over the insert within the tag, so that it is available when needed, but not for just anyone to see.

“Always flip your information on your luggage cards backwards,” she says in her video.

“I cannot tell you how many people I see on a daily basis with their information displayed.”

AIRLINE PASSENGER’S ‘AWKWARD’ SEATING ARRANGEMENT GOES VIRAL: ‘NEVER GOING TO RECOVER’

Case said that by flipping the card backwards inside the tag, if your luggage gets lost, someone who finds the baggage can flip the card over and find the correct contact information.

Case recommends flipping over the card insert of the bag tag that has all your information on it, so that it is not easily seen by strangers close by. (iStock)

Many users in the comment section found this to be a “great idea” and others shared their own personal luggage safety hacks.

“Such a great bit of advice. Will definitely be doing this from now on!!” one user commented.

“I just slide my business card into the holder. That has enough info to get it back to me,” another TikTok user wrote.

Instead of using a baggage tag that shares all your personal information, look for one with a cover so that the information is only available when needed, Case suggested in her TikTok video. (iStock)

A TikTok creator shared a personal story about why it is important to hide personal information when traveling.

“My daughter’s 15-year-old friend was traveling with us and a guy behind us in the gate line [texted] her because he saw her #. I lost it! Cover your info,” the user commented on Case’s post.

One social media user said that instead of using their home address, they write their work address on their tag.

Another person said they write the address of their trip destination, not their home.

“I’ve set up a dedicated email address instead,” another person wrote.

You likely want to make sure you keep your personal information safe while traveling, and a flight attendant’s latest tip has social media users weighing in on the topic. (iStock)

Other users appeared to be worried that some airline employees would not think to flip the card over if it appeared to be blank.

Case suggested writing “flip it over” on the blank side of the tag, so whoever finds the luggage will know that the information has been filled out, but is on the other side.

She also suggested buying a tag that had a built-in cover.

“These documents contain confidential information that you won’t want a stranger stumbling across. For your safety, Scan a copy of your passport and keep that in a secure place,” the website says.

“Keep your passport locked in a safe area along with your mobile devices. Do not leave it in plain sight. If you bring it along with you (and choose not to leave it behind in a hotel for example), make sure that it is close to your body as you would with your devices and wallet.”

  • Europe —  Passalacqua (No. 2)
  • North America —  Chablé Yucatan (No. 16)

For travelers looking for a city break, Bangkok represents the top urban destination on the list with four hotels; followed by London and Paris, with three each; then Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and New York, with two each.

Other awards

The ’50 Best’ organization also announced individual awards for standout hotels in specific categories.

Bulgari Tokyo (No. 22) was the highest-ranked hotel to open within the two-year voting window and was therefore named “Best New Hotel,” while The Peninsula Istanbul, which only opened last year, was named the “One to Watch” for showing the greatest potential to break into the top 50 list in the future.

The Art of Hospitality Award went to Morocco’s Royal Mansour,  and the Best Beach Hotel Award went to Soneva Fushi in The Maldives.

The  Best Boutique Hotel Award was claimed by Passalacqua in Lake Como and the Eco Hotel Award was awarded to Maroma Riviera Maya in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for “its commitment to both people and planet.”

The Most Admired Hotel Group Award went to luxe and wellness pioneer Aman, while The Icon Award was given to Rosewood Hotel Group CEO Sonia Cheng for her “positive force on the hotel sector.”

The voting system

Voters, divided across nine regions around the world, name the seven hotels that they enjoyed the most in the past two years, in their order of preference.

Members of the 50 Best organization “do not vote and do not control the composition of the list,” Emma Sleight, head of content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels told CNBC. “It’s up to each individual voter to decide what makes any individual hotel among their ‘best’ experiences.”

Any hotel can be nominated, as long as a voter stayed at least one night in it, however, the rules state that a voter cannot nominate more than three properties within the same hotel group.

“A hotel does not have to stock a certain product, meet a certain price point, have won any other accolades,” said Sleight. “Any style of hotel is eligible for inclusion —  whether it’s a new hotel or has been open for 100 years —  as demonstrated by last year’s list … Atlantis The Royal in Dubai was featured, alongside Claridge’s which has been open since the 1800s.”

Many women are blindsided by perimenopause. 5 facts everyone should know about this time of life.

0

You’re happy. You’re sad. Your brain feels like cotton candy. Your periods are irregular and heavier — or lighter — than normal. And let’s not even mention your waistline that’s disappearing along with your sleep.

In other words, you may feel like you’re on a wild roller-coaster ride. What’s happening? It’s likely perimenopause.

“Perimenopause — otherwise known as the ‘menopausal transition’ — is the phase of reproductive life that is positioned between a woman’s peak reproductive years and menopause,” explains ob-gyn Dr. Sharon Malone, chief medical adviser to Alloy Women’s Health and New York Times bestselling author of Grown Woman Talk. During perimenopause, your levels of estrogen rise and fall unevenly and unpredictably, she tells Yahoo Life.

Dr. Lauren Streicher, a clinical professor at Northwestern University and host of Dr. Streicher’s Inside Information Podcast, says that many women are blindsided by the changes in their bodies and don’t think this happens until they’re in their 50s.

But they’re wrong: Perimenopause usually hits in your mid-40s but can occur earlier than you think — as early as in your mid-30s. Malone says that women under extreme stress, in poor physical health or who smoke cigarettes generally start sooner. All of these ages are within normal range, although the changes — which can range from mild to disabling — might not feel normal at all.

I’ve been writing about menopause for over 10 years and also produce my own Substack newsletter, thePause Newsletter With Sheryl Kraft. I’m passionate about covering a subject that has been neglected for too long and mired in mystery, especially perimenopause, which too often catches women by surprise. Here’s what you need to know about perimenopause.

This transition period is different for everyone — your experience as individual as your thumbprint.

On average, it could last from three to four years. Or it could be as long as a decade. “The large range can be due to genetic differences or the health and lived experience of the individual,” says Malone. One 2017 study published in the journal Menopause found that the earlier women began the transition, the longer that transition lasted.

The end of perimenopause occurs when you go for 12 consecutive months without a period. At this point you are postmenopausal, “which you are for the rest of your life,” Streicher tells Yahoo Life.

Like mother, like daughter? If you’re wondering about your perimenopause journey, it might be useful to ask your mother or sister. Many times, you’ll find a connection between their experience and yours. Genes can influence how old you’ll be and what your experience will be like (especially when it comes to hot flashes and night sweats), according to a study published in the journal Menopause.

While there could be multiple genes and variants at play, genetics don’t always rule: A study by the University of Michigan found that genetic factors may vary by race and ethnicity.

For instance, Black women, in addition to starting perimenopause earlier, have more severe symptoms, notes Malone. “These changes are more than likely due to environmental and lived experiences rather than genetic factors,” she says. “Black women also experience an almost 50% increase in depressive symptoms and are more likely to experience disturbed sleep — decreased hours of sleep and poorer-quality sleep.”

Here’s some eye-opening news: Perimenopause is not limited to the usual suspects of symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats. There are some unknown or surprising ones you might not know about, says Streicher. “You might ignore these, thinking they’re not related, but they can be!” she says. They include:

  • Itchy skin

  • Painful sex

  • Heart palpitations

  • Panic attacks

  • Anxiety

  • Forgetfulness

  • Leaky bladder

  • Dry mouth

  • Breast tenderness

  • Itchy ears

  • Frozen shoulder

Hormone therapy is a Food and Drug Administration-approved effective treatment designed to alleviate many menopausal symptoms. Research also shows that it promotes healthy aging. But for women who can’t or choose not to take hormone therapy, there’s a new medication in town.

Elinzanetant, a nonhormonal drug to treat hot flashes and night sweats, is not yet approved by the FDA but looks promising in clinical trials. It may also help improve sleep.

It is in a class of drugs known as NK3 receptor antagonists, which work by inhibiting the neurokinin 3 receptor, which is influenced by estrogen and plays a part in the brain’s regulation of body temperature, Streicher explains.

So far, there is one FDA-approved drug, called fezolinetant (Veozah), which works on similar mechanisms. Important to know: These drugs have only been tested in menopausal women, Dr. Mary Jane Minkin, gynecologist, clinical professor at Yale School of Medicine and host of the podcast Madame Ovary, tells Yahoo Life. It’s a good idea to discuss all your options with your doctor to see if they might be helpful for you too.

The next time you want to stick your head in the freezer or are silently cursing while changing your sheets at 3 a.m., remember this: Perimenopause is a natural life event that all women experience if they are lucky to live long enough. Although your body is changing, most women will experience relief from these pesky symptoms once they reach postmenopause.

In the meantime, the old tried-and-true advice for healthy living applies here: Eat healthy foods, watch your alcohol intake (which can make perimenopausal symptoms worse), get regular physical activity and manage your stress levels.

Even more importantly, Streicher urges women to find a doctor with menopause expertise with whom you can discuss your perimenopause struggles. The Menopause Society has an excellent clinician finder, or you can find a virtual care clinic, such as Midi Health, which connects patients to experts in menopause and perimenopause and is covered by most insurance plans.

And one last point worth mentioning: You can still become pregnant during perimenopause. So until you go that magic year without a period, do not forgo birth control. “My personal best was delivering babies for three different 47-year-olds who thought they didn’t need contraception,” says Minkin.

Respiree teams up with Roche Diagnostics in APAC to introduce a new simplified way of hospital patient monitoring

0

With this collaboration, Respiree’s patient monitoring solution will be made available for healthcare professionals in APAC through a pilot program using Roche’s blood glucose monitoring system. The goal is to simplify clinical workflows and augment diagnostic and monitoring capabilities, leading to improved patient outcomes.

SINGAPORE, Sept. 17, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Existing patient monitoring workflows often rely on nurses managing patients from centralized workstations, monitoring vitals and biomarkers at different intervals, and manually collecting vitals. This process can be inefficient, especially with limited workstations, multiple workflows, increased patient volumes, and nursing shortages.

By the first quarter of 2025, Respiree will team up with Roche to launch pilot programs across APAC that offer a simplified approach to patient monitoring by combining Roche’s cobas® pulse system with Respiree’s vital sign monitoring. The solution is also expected in future to integrate machine learning models that predict clinical deterioration using historical data with risk scores at the bedside.

The cobas® pulse system, a point of care device, equipped with digital health applications based on the Android operating system allows for real-time administration and visualization, eliminating the need for centralized workstations. Respiree’s solution measures multiple biometrics, including pulse rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, temperature, tidal depth, inhalation-to-exhalation ratios, and has the capability to input blood pressure measurements.

With the use of Respiree and cobas® pulse solutions, healthcare professionals can register patients to Respiree’s connected devices in real-time, monitor historical data and potential deterioration directly at the patient’s bedside without needing to return to workstations or medical carts, as well as simultaneously measure vital signs and blood sugar. They can annotate clinical notes on the Respiree solution in the cobas® pulse system.

“The use of Respiree with the cobas® pulse system has tremendous potential to enhance clinical workflows. Nurses can administer devices and view historical vitals in real-time without the need for centralized workstations, providing immediate bedside insights into patient progress. Additionally, nurses can automate the extraction and measurement of vitals from connected devices almost instantaneously, removing the need for manual scanning and measurements,” says Dr. Gurpreet Singh, CEO and Founder of Respiree.
