Chili’s Triple Dipper has a day’s worth of calories and a lot of sodium. How to make the popular appetizer a little healthier, according to dietitians

0

Chili’s Triple Dipper has taken TikTok by storm and is driving sales too. According to the CEO officer of Brinker International, Chili’s parent company, the dish consisting of three appetizers and three sauces accounted for 40% of Chili’s sales growth last quarter.

With options such as Southwest egg rolls, fried mozzarella and sliders, you don’t have to be a nutrition genius to realize that the Triple Dipper is big on calories. But how bad is it really? And is there a way to make it healthier? Here’s what dietitians think.

Chili’s Triple Dipper includes three servings of three appetizers and three sauces of your choosing. Customers can pick from a suite of 12 appetizers, including wings, mozzarella sticks, Southwest egg rolls, sliders and chicken tenders. Sauce options include ranch, honey mustard, blue cheese and house barbecue.

The total calorie content of a Triple Dipper order ranges from 1,740 to 3,920 calories, which is more than a day’s calorie intake for many. A quick glance at the nutrition facts also reveals that even the least salty combinations provide roughly 4,500 mg of sodium per order, almost double the daily recommended sodium intake.

Alexandria Hardy, a dietitian and owner of Pennsylvania Nutrition Services, says that the least healthy choices would be the Nashville Hot Chicken Crispers at 1,050 calories and Big Mouth Bites at 850 calories. The Honey-Chipotle Chicken Crispers are also heavy on calories (900 big ones), saturated fat and sodium and are another choice to skip or swap if you order a Triple Dipper. “Consuming these foods regularly may negatively impact cholesterol and blood pressure,” says Hardy.

If you don’t want to pass up this popular dish, Hardy recommends choosing boneless wings with buffalo sauce (630 calories) or traditional buffalo wings (580 calories) and/or Crispy Chicken Crispers without sauce (590 calories). “These options offer moderate calories, lower sugar and higher protein,” says Hardy. “While sodium remains high, they can fit into a balanced diet when eaten occasionally.”

Splitting the Triple Dipper with others — or at least taking some of it home so you don’t eat it all in one sitting — can also help curtail your calorie, fat and sodium intake from this TikTok-famous menu item. Hardy notes that pairing the Triple Dipper “with lighter sides like salad, asparagus or steamed broccoli can help add color and antioxidants to your meal.” Vegetable sides can add volume and improve satiety.

Melissa Mitri, registered dietitian and owner of Melissa Mitri Nutrition, also recommends being mindful of the sauces you’re choosing when ordering a Triple Dipper. “To make these options healthier, you can omit blue cheese or ranch, request your server to go light on the sauce, or ask for sauce on the side so you have control over how much you’re adding.”

Chili’s Triple Dipper is undoubtedly an indulgence. While occasionally dabbling in a Triple Dipper with friends is OK for most people, devouring this dish on a regular basis will likely have a negative impact on your health, especially cholesterol levels, blood pressure and weight.

Travelers will need ‘permission’ and a fee to visit United Kingdom as part of new digitized system

The British government has rolled out a new requirement for travelers hoping to visit the country.

An “Electronic Travel Authorization” (ETA) has been implemented that digitizes tourists’ requests to visit the country while paying a fee of about $13.

“Everyone wishing to travel to the U.K. – except British and Irish citizens – will need permission to travel in advance of coming here,” says the United Kingdom government’s site.

TRAVELERS COULD FACE NEW PENALTY FOR EXCEEDING BAGGAGE LIMIT ON TRAINS

The ETAs are linked to a traveler’s passport in an effort to smooth security checks and “prevent abuse” of the immigration system.

Re.juve Celebrates 10 Years with Bottle Redesign Promoting Health Transparency and Freshness

0

SINGAPORE, Sept. 16, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Re.juve Cold Pressed Juice, a pioneer in Singapore’s cold pressed juice industry, proudly marks its 10th anniversary with the unveiling of a fresh and innovative bottle redesign. Reflecting the brand’s core values of health, transparency, and simplicity, the new look enhances both the aesthetic and functional qualities of Re.juve’s juices, making it easier for health-conscious consumers to appreciate the purity and natural goodness inside each bottle.

Since its founding in 2014, Re.juve has expanded to over 100 stores across Singapore and the region, continually perfecting its craft. Each bottle contains 100% fresh ingredients, free from added sugars, water, concentrates, or preservatives—just pure, raw nutrition.

The redesigned bottles, featuring minimalist labels, put the vibrant colours of the juices front and centre, reflecting the natural beauty of the fruits and vegetables within. By retiring the familiar fuchsia logo, Re.juve allows the bold, natural hues of each juice to speak for themselves, making it easier for customers to identify their preferred flavours and health benefits at a glance.

“Our new packaging is a celebration of simplicity,” said Nicholas Johannes, Director of Re.juve Cold Pressed Juice Singapore. “The redesign puts our customers first by emphasising the raw beauty and health benefits of our ingredients. The clean, straightforward design is a reflection of the honest, transparent products we’ve been crafting for the past decade.”

Each bottle label features subtle watercolour accents that reflect the juice’s ingredients. The soothing green tones of the Asian Green juice evoke the healing qualities of cucumber and spinach, while the vibrant orange of u.Glow symbolises the energetic burst of citrus. These visual cues help consumers connect with the natural world, making the selection process quicker and more intuitive.

“The vibrant colours of Re.juve’s juices aren’t just beautiful to look at,” Johannes continued. “They serve an educational purpose, visually representing the nutrient density and health benefits of each bottle. This redesign helps our customers make informed choices about what they drink.”

Re.juve invites customers to experience the new bottle design firsthand at any Re.juve store, or visit the pop-up store at Takashimaya B2 Food Hall from 18 to 30 September 2024, where they can explore the full range of flavours and health benefits. Compare this to other built-in video streaming TVs that come with Roku inside but lack voice assistant features out of the box. The TV also features vivid colors and high-definition picture quality, rare at this price point.

Over 16,000 customers have left a glowing five-star review. “I love it — love the picture, love the sound, easy set-up, good for the money,” said one fan. “Had more expensive TVs that were hard to set up and picture and sound were no better.”

Pet owners, listen up: This little robot vac could make your life easier by picking up all the pet hair that’s accumulated on your floors. It’s equipped to handle both wood and carpet, and it has four modes to make fast work of dirt, debris, fur and more. It can follow the wall and automatically clean, spot clean or manually clean, tackling messes of any size with precision and power. Plus, it’ll run for up to 100 minutes (on low-suction mode) before automatically returning to its charging base to juice up.

“All I can say is wow,” wrote one pet owner. “With several dogs in my house, I think this will be a godsend. As soon as I received it, I put it together and let it go. I just swept, for the third time, and it picked up hair from under my coffee table, along the walls, and the edge of my furniture.”

Most medical pros will tell you that a good night’s sleep is important for your physical and mental health. However, if your mattress is a little too firm for your liking, it may be hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. If a new mattress isn’t in the budget, consider a mattress pad. This on-sale pick has a breathable top, and it’s overstuffed with down alternative fill to make it extra fluffy.

“It made my mattress feel like a big pillow. I love it,” said a fan.

These all-natural dryer balls are made of 100% New Zealand wool to help soften your laundry and cut down on static, so you can take harsh chemical softeners and dryer sheets out of your laundry room for good. When you toss a few into your dryer, they help break up any heavy clothes, towels or sheets so they can dry properly. The wool can also suck out the water and condensation from inside your dryer and improve the airflow, helping cut down on total drying time (and energy bills!)

“First-time customer trying these wool dryer balls. Sooo glad I bought them!” gushed a convert. “They work. Clothes come out wrinkle-free, mostly, and soft. Huge plus: no more artificial smelly softener infiltrating my clothing and linens. Highly recommend!”

You may have seen Oprah wearing the ultra-comfy AirEssentials sweatsuit by Spanx. It costs over $250, but she’s Oprah, so she can swing it. If you want a similar look for less, get this set at Amazon. It comes in 26 colors and includes the quarter-zip sweatshirt and sweatpants.

“I feel like Oprah!” said one reviewer. “It’s a flattering cut and fit for me, and hopefully will wash well. The fabric is buttery but has some body to it. I’m no spring chicken, but I think it looks pretty cute!”

This hair helper uses coconut, olive, jojoba and pumpkin seed oils to help promote growth. It also works to soften and detangle hair and reduce blow-drying time, which means less heat damage.

Nearly 24,000 five-star Amazon reviewers say it’s the real deal. “OMG,” marveled a new convert. “This is one of the best products I have ever purchased. When I say ‘hair growth,’ I mean it. This helps your hair to grow and thicken up, and those bald spots will not be bald anymore after using this growth oil. It even grew my daughter’s edges back. I love it!”

If you’ve never considered a water flosser, you’re missing out. Not only is this one easy to use (simply fill the reservoir with warm water and you’re ready to go), but it “removes up to 99.9% of plaque,” according to Waterpik. There are two flossing tips and two water-pressure settings, so you can customize your clean.

“I use a corded Waterpik at home, but happy to find this cordless version,” said one traveler. “It works just as well and is more convenient when traveling if there is not an outlet handy. I find that using a Waterpik is so much easier than using dental floss.”

If you’re on the hunt for a new pair of leggings, give this pair a shot. Shoppers report they’re super soft, fit in all the right places and offer a bit of tummy control. And they have a flared silhouette that flatters all figures.

“I’m always skeptical when buying clothes that aren’t from name brands — mostly because the picture always looks different than what arrives,” one Amazon reviewer admitted. “But I have been happily surprised by these leggings. They are super soft. … They’re a buttery-smooth texture that just feels good on your skin. They suck in my tummy area. They have a great stretch.”

Amazon

Undies with tummy control may not always be the cutest undergarments out there, but they’re certainly handy when you’re looking for a little extra support. The thing is, finding a pair that’s actually comfortable can be a tiresome quest. Luckily, unicorns do exist — and over 68,000 Amazon shoppers have found one in these cotton briefs. They say they’re much comfier than shapewear, with more coverage than skimpier styles that seem to be taking over these days.

“These are the best panties I have found that actually hold your stomach in,” reported a rave reviewer. “I’m not skinny or fat, [but] I have the 50-year-old pooch that does not look smooth in tight clothes. These panties smooth out my tummy and make me look flat-bellied.”

ESMO 2024 – ImmVira Unveils Clinical Results of Intravesical MVR-T3011 for High-Risk BCG-Failure NMIBC Patients

0

SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 15, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — ImmVira announced the latest clinical results for its lead oncolytic virus product, MVR-T3011, via intravesical administration in patients with high-risk BCG-failure non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The results were published through poster presentation at the 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO 2024).

This Phase I, open-label, dose-escalation and expansion study was conducted in China to assess the safety and efficacy of MVR-T3011 administered intravesically in patients with high-risk BCG-failure NMIBC. The study enrolled a broader patient population, including those with high-grade Ta, T1, or CIS +/- Ta/T1 bladder cancer, regardless of the presence of CIS. This inclusive approach aims to target a wider range of patients, potentially accelerating future trial enrollment and expanding market opportunities. The treatment was delivered via intravesical instillation at three dose levels, with weekly induction course lasting 12 weeks, followed by bi-weekly maintenance course for up to one year.

According to poster presented (cut-off as of June 27, 2024), among 14 evaluable patients, the overall 3-month complete response (CR) rate across all dose levels was 71.4% (10/14). At the 2×109 PFU dose level (expected RP2D), the CR rate reached an impressive 87.5% (7/8). The study showed a favorable safety profile, with no dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) reported and no maximum tolerated dose (MTD) reached. Additionally, MVR-T3011 treatment simplifies clinical procedure by eliminating the need for bladder prewash by nature, further reducing patient discomfort. The instillation process is both quick and efficient.

By September 15, 2024, the most recent data shows that 20 subjects have received MVR-T3011 treatment. At the RP2D dose level, the 3-month CR rate remained strong at 81.8% (9/11). Of the 9 patients who have reached the 6-month assessment, 8 have maintained CR, while 4 patients have reached the 9-month assessment and all remained in CR. We are continuing to gather additional data to support further analysis.

“There is a significant unmet need for innovative treatments for bladder cancer,” said Dr. Grace Zhou, Chairwoman and CEO of ImmVira. “We are highly encouraged by the preliminary safety and efficacy data from this Phase I study, especially the 3-month CR rate over 80%, along with durable responses at 6- and 9-month time points. With this early success, we are committed to accelerating clinical development of intravesical MVR-T3011 treatments for BCG-failure NMIBC patients and exploring its potential across other bladder cancer indications. Our goal is to provide a novel, effective, and well-tolerated treatment solution for patients.”

About MVR-T3011

MVR-T3011, ImmVira’s proprietary 3-in-1 oHSV, is a novel genetic engineered oHSV with advanced backbone design aiming to achieve the most favorable profile of attenuated HSV-1 with replication potency in tumor cells and highly restricted replication in normal cells, supporting intratumoral, intravenous and intravesical administrations. Additionally, MVR-T3011 incorporated two latest and well-validated exogenous genes, PD-1 antibody and IL-12, to further enhance immune responses in the tumor microenvironment.

You likely want to be cozy while flying for hours at a time, but some airlines have restrictions on how far travelers can go to increase their comfort.

Social media users on TikTok have shared experiences of flying with fellow passengers who have taken off their socks on commercial flights.

The videos have led many to call for education on airplane etiquette.

AIRLINE PASSENGER CAPTURES ‘MANSPREADING’ MOMENT IN VIRAL TIKTOK, SPARKING DEBATE

Many popular airlines could even remove a passenger from a flight if the person goes against a no-barefoot policy.

American Airlines carefully details what’s required of passengers in its “conditions of carriage” contract.

Did you know you could be removed from a flight if you take off your socks? These top airlines ask that passengers do not go barefoot on a flight. (iStock)

In an effort to create a safe environment for all aboard, the airlines require everyone to “dress appropriately,” which means “bare feet or offensive clothing aren’t allowed,” according to American Airlines.

‘AIRPORT TRAY AESTHETIC’ GOES VIRAL AS SOME TRAVELERS HALT SECURITY CHECKPOINTS FOR PHOTO OPS

Rule No. 21 on United Airlines’ “Contract of Carriage” is “Refusal of Transport,” which mentions a variety of reasons that someone may be denied entry to the plane or possibly removed.

Airlines such as Southwest and JetBlue have put an age limit on passengers who are allowed to go barefoot. No one over age 5 can go barefoot unless they have a disability that requires it. (iStock)

One of the variables listed includes “passengers who are barefoot, not properly clothed, or whose clothing is lewd, obscene or offensive.”

Some airlines only allow those of a certain age to go barefoot while flying.

For the “comfort and safety” of those on the carrier, Southwest Airlines notes that its staff may remove people if they are barefoot and above the age of 5, or without a disability that requires them to be barefoot.

Each airline has its own “contract of carriage” with a certain set of rules that may not allow a passenger to board or transport. (iStock)

JetBlue Airways is another airline that abides by the same age rule, according to its carriage contract.

While this rule seems to be popular among U.S.-based airlines, not all foreign airlines have this ban listed in conduct contracts.

Air Canada, Air France or even British Airways, to name a few, do not have any rules listed in the airlines’ contract of carriage that allow for the removal of a passenger for being barefoot.

When an airline does implement a no-barefoot policy, enforcing it is reportedly up to the flight attendant.

Feet on airplane

A Florida-based etiquette expert recommends passengers wear slippers or put on a clean pair of socks if they want to remain comfortable and still hygienic on a flight. (iStock)

Each contract uses the word “may be required” — meaning it is not a hard and fast rule that passengers must follow.

Even though wearing socks is not necessarily required, there could be some fair reasons to keep your toes tucked away while on board.

Jacqueline Whitmore, an etiquette expert based in Florida, said it is best to keep your feet covered in some capacity.

“From an etiquette standpoint, it is rude to walk about barefooted in a public place as many germs can be transmitted from your feet,” Whitmore told Fox News Digital.

“If you plan to take off your shoes on a longer flight, it’s best not to walk around without slippers for your own health and safety,” she said. “The floor of the plane is extremely dirty, especially in the lavatory. The water on the floor is most likely not water at all.”

Whitmore also said that being barefoot can impact those around you.

“For fellow passengers, seeing someone walk around barefoot can be considered unpleasant or unhygienic, which could negatively impact their flying experience.”

Hit the road: New study suggests travel could delay aging, improve physical and mental health

A recently published study suggests travel could delay or slow the aging process, which is as good an excuse as any to go ahead and book that trip.

The study, “The Principle of Entropy Increase: A Novel View of How Tourism Influences Human Health,” was published in the Journal of Travel Research in August.

The study “applied the theory of entropy to tourism,” said a Sept. 5 release from Edith Cowan University (ECU) located outside Perth, Australia. This is believed to be the first interdisciplinary study of its kind, they said.

“Entropy” is the universe’s trend toward disorder, ECU noted.

“The entropy perspective suggests that tourism could trigger entropy changes, where positive experiences might mitigate entropy increase and enhance health, while negative experiences may contribute to entropy increase and compromise health,” the university said.

Among these health benefits is “slowing down the signs of aging,” ECU noted.

“Aging, as a process, is irreversible. While it can’t be stopped, it can be slowed down,” Fangli Hu, a Ph.D. candidate at ECU and the lead researcher on the study, said in the release.

“Tourism isn’t just about leisure and recreation. It could also contribute to people’s physical and mental health.”

Having a positive experience during travel can “enhance individuals’ physical and mental wellness,” said ECU, including through “exposure to new places and environments, increased levels of physical activity and socializing and “the fostering of positive emotions.”

Going to new places triggers a response that elevates the body’s metabolic rate, ECU said, which may also trigger an adaptive immune system response.

This immune response “improves the body’s ability to perceive and defend itself against external threats,” said Hu.

“Put simply, the self-defense system becomes more resilient,” she said. “Hormones conducive to tissue repair and regeneration may be released and promote the self-healing system’s functioning.”

This is true both for leisurely travel and for more intense trips like hiking, Hu found.

“Leisurely travel activities might help alleviate chronic stress, dampen over-activation of the immune system and encourage normal functioning of the self-defense system,” she said.

Conversely, more physical activity done while traveling — hiking, cycling and walking — can help the body out as well.

“Participating in these activities could enhance the body’s immune function and self-defense capabilities, bolstering its hardiness to external risks,” Hu wrote.

“Physical exercise may also improve blood circulation, expedite nutrient transport, and aid waste elimination to collectively maintain an active self-healing system. Moderate exercise is beneficial to the bones, muscles, and joints in addition to supporting the body’s anti-wear-and-tear system.”
