The top vacation destinations in Europe for those looking to exercise while on holiday were announced — and some spots are surprising.

Global Running Day is June 5, 2024 — and Hoka, the running shoe brand known for comfort and support, enlisted researchers to discover which European vacation spots would be the best choice for avid runners to hit this summer.

The analysis followed eight key metrics: annual Google search volume, Instagram hashtags, number of spas, pollution levels, average daylight hours, average temperature, Strava downloads (a workout tracking app), and the number of national parks.

After comparing all European countries, Hoka released a list of the top spots to add to your summer run bucket list.

The 17 best sports bras for 2024, tested by fitness experts

0

It’s so much more motivating to get yourself to the gym or outside on a run when you’ve got a functional (and stylish) workout outfit. Sometimes a solid pair of leggings, tennis shoes and a cozy sports bra or top is the final push we need to get out the door. That’s why we looked into the best sports bras — because along with looking great, a good sports bra should be comfortable and supportive. We talked to fitness experts and trainers, plus tapped our own team of shopping experts to find the best sports bras for every build and budget.

“The truth is, there is no one best sports bra for every woman,” Stephanie Holbrook, Level 1 USA Triathlon Coach, tells us. “You should consider several factors (like fit, breathability and support) first that will help narrow down your search.”

Our shopping experts used this intel to find the best sports bras for every body type and activity. No matter if you’re looking for full coverage or a little more lift, we’ve got some recommendations for the best sports bras below.

And make sure to also check out our favorite strapless bras, wireless bras and push-up bras that give you extra lift.

Nike

Size range: XS-3XL | Support: Light, medium and high | Material: 88% polyester, 12% spandex

The pull-on bra offers medium support and light compression to get you through various activities, so it’s no wonder that thousands of Amazon shoppers and our own deals writer, Brit Ross, are fans. Featuring Nike’s signature Dri-Fit technology, which pulls away sweat from your body, it comes in a range of colors. Even better, you can choose from three support types: high, medium and light. Says Brit: “I hate wearing sports bras. Nikes are the only ones that don’t feel like they’re digging into my skin. I appreciate that they come with different levels of support (I like light support, since I hate feeling too constricted, but even this one makes me feel like everything is held in place). I also like the clean design, and the fact that they come in some pretty colors and neutrals. I mainly wear them while riding my Peloton bike, and nothing’s ever felt like it’s popping out.”

Pros

  • Different support levels to choose from
  • Affordable
  • Comfortable
  • Variety of colors
Cons

  • Straps aren’t adjustable

Herroom

Size range: 32D-46G | Support: High | Material: 47% nylon, 39% polyester, 14% spandex

“This is a serious bra for serious bosoms,” said Yahoo Shopping Editor Anna Wahrman. “If your breasts are ample, as mine are, you’ll appreciate the four-prong back, the wide and soft adjustable straps, and the breathable side panels. I understand women who hate underwires — I do, too — but I’ve found that we bigger gals need the support that comes with a more structured fit. Remember the old Playtex ad that said its bra ‘lifts and separates’? That’s this bra all the way down.”

Moisture-wicking, this bra has seamless cups to help prevent chafing and a padded underwire for comfort. With breathable mesh along the neckline, straps, sides and back to increase airflow, it’s designed to help keep you cool while you work up a sweat.

Make sure to also check out our recommendations for the best bras for big busts and our top favorite minimizer bras.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Supportive
  • Thick adjustable straps
  • Breathable
Cons

  • Almost too structured

Adidas

Size range: 2XS-2XL | Support: Medium | Material: 73% recycled polyester, 27% spandex

Laura Martin, a mountain biker based in the Scottish Highlands, is a big fan of this Adidas option. She calls it a “great medium support sports bra, nice to wear when doing gym workouts. It’s sweat-wicking and leaves clean lines under clothing.” A sleek compression sports bra, it has adjustable straps to help you find a comfortable fit and power mesh in the back for breathability. It comes with removable pads and is made with a minimum of 70% recycled materials.

Pros

  • Lightweight
  • Adjustable straps
  • Removable pads
  • Comfortable

Yvette

Size range: S-5XL | Support: High | Material: 83% polyester, 17% spandex

This sports bra is so supportive that Level 1 USA Triathlon Coach Stephanie Holbrook wore it when she ran a half marathon and a half Ironman: “What I like about the bra is that it’s made from stretch polyester; it has adjustable front straps and clips in the back, making it super comfortable for hours of training and racing.” The crisscrossing straps lift as they support, while mesh panels and sweat-wicking material help keep you cool.

Shoppers love its mix of fashion and function. Says one: “I don’t normally write reviews, but this bra warrants it. I’ve been looking for a sports bra that has a feminine/sexy fit and this is it. I can definitely work out in this — the girls won’t budge! But as an added bonus, I feel pretty rather than mushed in.”

Pros

  • Very supportive
  • Affordable
  • Hook and eye closure
  • Sweat-wicking
  • Adjustable straps
Cons

  • Limited colors in all sizes

Glamorise

Size range: 34B-50J | Support: High | Material: 75% polyester, 20% polyamide, 5% spandex

Over 9,000 Amazon shoppers have given this Glamorise sports bra their seal of approval, and it’s easy to see why. The size-inclusive bra has a wide, durable band that lifts and supports your bust without any underwire. And it’s available up to size 50J! The seamless cups are comfortable against the skin, and the adjustable straps and hook-and-eye closure ensure the right fit.

“This is a fantastic bra,” writes one happy five-star reviewer. “I normally put on a bra and immediately I want out of it. Not this one. It’s comfortable and supports well-endowed women. It’s a sports bra but doesn’t fit like one. The typical sports bra I fall out of. If you are a plus-size woman and need the support but hate underwires, this bra is for you! I will be buying it for my mother and mother-in-law.”

Pros

  • Breathable
  • Moisture-wicking
  • Seamless
  • Adjustable straps
  • Size-inclusive
Cons

  • Some customers said it looks matronly

Running Girl

Size range: XS-3XL | Support: Medium | Material: 75% nylon, 25% spandex

This strappy sports bra by Running Girl is Amazon’s No.1 bestselling sports bra. The four-way stretch material is both soft and moisture-wicking, it comes with removable cups, and there are 40 variations to choose from — so you’re sure to find an option (or two or three) that matches your workout wardrobe.

Shoppers love the stylish strappy design and how well this stretchy medium-support bra moves with them. “I have always been a fan of bralettes … and not so much sports bras, but this one is amazing. It is comfortable and functional and without an underwire support,” reports one fan. “Amazingly soft, doesn’t dig into you, and comfortable beyond words.”

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Comfortable
  • Multiple colors
  • Stretchy
  • Moisture-wicking
Cons

  • Not adjustable

Lululemon

Size range: 2-14 | Support: Medium | Material: 77% polyester, 23% Lycra

Commerce Editor Amanda Garrity loves this Lululemon sports bra because “it’s versatile and has medium support, so I can wear it for most of my workouts whether I’m doing light cardio, lifting weights or going to Pilates. It’s incredibly comfortable, doesn’t feel constricting in any way (my biggest complaint with sports bras), and I love the strappy details in back.” While the bra provides medium support, Amanda said she’s also worn it to high-impact workout classes without any issues. She does wish it came in more colors and had better sizing: “I wear a 6, which is a little snug, but the next size up has a looser band and gathers at the front.”

Pros

  • Soft
  • Stretchy
  • Supportive
  • Sweat-wicking
  • Comfortable
Cons

  • Limited colors and sizes

Brooks

Size range: 32C-44F | Support: High | Material: DriLayer HorsePower fabric

This super-supportive sports bra is one of women’s fitness expert Julie Lohre’s top picks because it’s “perfect for larger breasts and high-intensity activity. I like that this bra supports each breast individually and has adjustable straps that give you a ‘locked-in’ feel.” The underwire and molded cups provide ample support, and the adjustable straps are convertible; you can wear it as a classic straight strap or in a crisscross. Bonus: Soft sweat-wicking fabric keeps you cool and dry, and strategically placed perforations add ventilation.

Pros

  • Supportive
  • Adjustable straps
  • Lightweight
  • Breathable
  • Encapsulated support

Victoria’s Secret

Size range: 32B-40F | Support: High | Material: 71% polyamide, 29% spandex

If you’re in the market for a supportive high-impact bra, triathlon coach Stephanie Holbrook‘s top pick is this Victoria’s Secret style. “I appreciate that it lays flat and looks good if you’re wearing a sweater during the day or hitting the gym after work. Another plus is that the bra is easy to get on and off.”

She’s not the only fan: Hundreds of shoppers have given this bra their seal of approval, citing its lightweight, breathable design. With perforations for targeted air flow and the brand’s signature Turbo Dry liner, it keeps you nice and dry. One happy shopper called it the “best sports bra ever … Fits true to size. Great for high impact. Comfortable for hours. Washes well. The perforations really help with airflow. No need to wear two sports bras! This one is all you need. And you don’t have to be a contortionist to take it off after a workout!”

Alo Yoga

Size range: XS-L | Support: Medium | Material: 80% polyester, 20% spandex

Here’s what Senior Commerce Writer Kristin Granero had to say about this medium-impact bra from Alo Yoga: “It’s incredibly comfortable, offers ample support, and the straps are adjustable so you can customize your fit.” But she also appreciated the bra’s good looks. “The subtle rib detailing is just really chic — wear it under a top or by itself when you’re in the yoga studio and need to let your body breathe,” she said. The soft, stretchy bra has a compressive fit and a snug underband for ample support. The only flaw Kristin could come up with is that this sports bra only comes in black — she wants to have more colors in rotation.

Pros

  • Comfortable
  • Supportive
  • Adjustable straps

Gap

Size range: XXS-XXL | Support: Light | Material: 74% polyester, 26% spandex.

This lightweight Gap sports bra proves you don’t have to spend a ton to get a good medium-support sports bra. Fitness expert Julie added it to her list of recommendations: “With a super cute, strappy design and material that flexes and breathes with you, this bra is a great option for women looking for moderate support.” The bra crosses at the back to give you full range of movement and is made from a four-way stretch material with moisture-wicking capabilities.

  • Affordable
  • Comfortable
  • Stretchy
Cons

All In Motion

Size range: XS-4XL | Support: High | Material: 75% recycled polyester, 25% spandex

This cute option from Target may be triathlon runner Stephanie’s fave: “This sports bra surpasses all others I’ve tried, and I’ve experimented with numerous options, ranging from exorbitantly expensive to dirt cheap.” The high-support bra is also size-inclusive, going up to 4XL, so it should be easy to find your perfect fit. Unlike other racerback sports bras, this one allows you to adjust the straps — and the back strap has a hook and loop closure so you can customize it to your needs.

Says a fan, “This bra is so comfy! I wear a 36F and normally have trouble finding comfortable supportive sports bras at places like Target. This bra is both. I purchased an XL and I’m buying all the colors! Seriously the best sports bra ever and affordable. It’s cute too!”

  • Moisture-wicking
  • Wireless
  • Adjustable straps
Cons

  • Limited colors

Jockey

Size range: S-XL | Support: Medium | Material: 93% nylon, 7% spandex

If you’re looking for a medium-impact bra, Stephanie recommends this Jockey option. “I like it for cycling as it is less confining than the high-impact bra and comfortable for 4-6 hour bike rides,” she says. Wire-free, this bra has a zip closure that makes it super easy to put on and take off, and it comes with removable padding.

Shoppers say it provides even compression across the chest without smashing things down. “This is the best sports bra I have ever had,” raved one. “It’s a perfect fit. It’s easy to wear and it holds you in place. I like the zipper in the front. I bought it in white, beige and black. It washes well in the machine. I put it in a small net lingerie bag … It’s a good quality bra and the price is reasonable.”

Heroine Sports

The light support is perfect for activities like yoga, Pilates and walking, but be aware that you have to hand wash it.”

Pros

Akamc

Size range: S-3XL | Support: Medium | Material: 96% nylon, 4% spandex

New moms rave about how supportive and comfortable these nursing sports bras are. The wire-free bras have a zip-up closure, giving you easy access for nursing or pumping, plus adjustable straps to help you achieve a perfect fit. Made from a four-way stretch material that’s moisture-wicking and super-soft, these bras are sold in packs of three or five, so you can rotate for daily wear.

“As a mom who is still nursing her youngest, this is exactly what I was going for,” said one customer. “I always end up with sports bras that are either too thin and loose and provide no support, or very thick and restricting. I need something that will provide support but also that I can pull down to nurse. This has the perfect balance between comfort and support.”

Pros

  • Zip-up front
  • Comfortable
  • Supportive
  • Lightweight
Cons

  • Not adjustable

Shoppers love how soft, comfortable and breathable this pull-on bra is and the fact that it comes in a variety of colors. One said, “Love this sports bra! It was incredibly comfortable and stayed in place during my workout. It fit perfectly and was incredibly flattering. Whether you’re wearing it to run errands or run a marathon, you want to find a sports bra that is both comfortable and supportive. To find the option that best suits your needs, there are a number of factors to consider:

  • Size: Your size may vary, depending on the brand (and sometimes the product), so be sure to check the size chart before adding it to the cart. Since sports bras are more compressive, don’t be surprised if your size is different from your normal bra size. Your cup size will affect the type of support you should be shopping for. “You need to understand the support you need for your breast size and for the activity,” said Julie Lohre, women’s fitness expert, IFBB Fitness Pro athlete and certified personal trainer. “A high level of support will be critical for a woman with a C and above cup who wants to include running or bounding plyometric exercises in their exercise routine.”

  • Support range: Many people wear the wrong sports bra for the activity they’re engaging in; if you like to partake in a range of fitness activities, it’s smart to have a range of sports bras, said Laura Martin, renowned mountain biker based in the Scottish Highlands. “High-impact sports bras should be worn for high-impact sports like jumping or running. These bras tend to be more restrictive, due to compression-style support which basically eliminates bounce. They tend to have more coverage and wider straps to help with the even distribution of the weight of the breasts. Low-impact sports bras are better suited to sports like yoga or walking. They have lighter support and are more comfortable. They tend to be a more relaxed fit and are made of lighter material.”

  • Compression vs. encapsulation: Another big decision is choosing between a compression bra and an encapsulation bra. Heather Wilson-Phillips, fitness expert, nutritionist and owner of Fitness Empire, explained the difference: “Encapsulation sports bras are usually marketed toward women who have larger breasts. They usually feature a separate cup for each breast, and give a more natural look.” Martin agreed, adding “These ‘encapsulate’ each breast to try to eliminate the bounce individually, instead of compressing the breasts against your body.” Compression sports bras are more typically what we think of when we think “sports bra.” Said Martin, “These will have a snug fit and look more like a band than two cups. They tend to be more compressing on the body. This pressure on the breasts helps eliminate the bounce and makes you feel more secure.”

  • Material: The fabric of a sports bra factors heavily into its comfort. Holbrook recommended “seeking out breathable polyester and nylon materials, as they effectively wick sweat away from the body.” While you may think cotton would be a preferable material since it’s soft and durable, that’s not the best choice. Said Lohre, “I avoid cotton because it tends to hold moisture against the body. When you are pushing hard in a workout, the last thing you want is your bra feeling waterlogged and heavy.”

To figure out which sports bras were the best of the best, we consulted a mix of fitness experts, trainers and our own shopping editors. They weighed in on what to look for when picking the right sports bra for different needs. We also polled this crew to find out which sports bras are their favorites — because there’s nothing like a firsthand recommendation! After reviewing hundreds of sports bras, top brands and product descriptions, we came down to 17 final candidates.

A sports bra should fit snugly but not so tightly that it digs into the skin or restricts breathing: “The cups of a sports bra should fit securely, without being too tight that your breasts begin to come out the top or sides,” said Wilson-Phillips.

“Chafing is a workout mood killer. Who wants to break a sweat while wrecking your skin?” said Kim Turner, of the sock brand Fitness Snob. To avoid this, you first want to check the fit. “Too loose or too snug, and you’re in for trouble. Second, cleanliness is next to, well … no chafing. Get out of that bra promptly post-workout and keep it fresh by washing regularly to avoid lingering sweat or dirt residue. Third, start at the source: Be mindful when shopping for sports bras. And of course, moisture-wicking fabric and seamless designs are lifesavers too.”

If you’re wearing a sports bra leisurely and don’t plan to break a sweat, it’s overall fine to wear it all day. However, as Turner mentioned above, you’ll want to change out of a sports bra immediately after a workout, since it has collected sweat or dirt residue.

Our experts stress that your bra should always feel comfortable and supportive, so when that’s no longer the case, you should replace it. The general recommendation is to replace your sports bra every six to 12 months.

First Park Hyatt hotel in central China opens in the vibrant city of Changsha

0

CHANGSHA, China, June 3, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Park Hyatt Changsha opens today, marking the debut of the Park Hyatt brand in the heart of central China’s Hunan capital.

A part of Changsha’s prestigious International Finance Square (IFS), the hotel occupies the uppermost floors of the 1000-foot-tall Tower Two skyscraper, the capital’s tallest building. IFS is also the city’s most prestigious commercial complex, and Park Hyatt Changsha guests will have easy access to one of China’s largest luxury malls, perfect for shopping the latest high-end styles and fashion.

A short stroll away from the lively Wuyi Square, visitors will be able to easily access both ancient Tianxin Pavilion and Du Fu River Pavilion. The hotel is also a quick drive to Changsha’s leading attractions, including Orange Isle Park, Hunan Museum, Hunan Art Museum, and Yuelu Mountain.

“We are excited to introduce the Park Hyatt brand to Changsha and Hunan,” says Albert Hong, general manager, Park Hyatt Changsha. “With Park Hyatt Changsha, we aim to provide a luxurious haven that redefines exemplary service, offering a personalized stay, sophisticated art and design, exceptional culinary options, and memorable events to our guests.”

Park Hyatt Changsha houses 230 modern rooms, including 24 suites with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light. The natural beauty of Hunan’s Zhangjiajie National Forest Park inspired the timber slats and sage green palette, and the spacious rooms include a lounge area and walk-in-wardrobe. For the ultimate indulgence, guests may opt for the 2,884-square-foot Presidential Suite, which features a capacious living space, dining room, study area, kitchen, and gym.

Art and design
The interiors of Park Hyatt Changsha were created by the architectural and interiors practice Conran and Partners, founded by the late Sir Terence Conran. Creative Partner Tina Norden and her team drew inspiration from the natural colors and materials of Hunan province—famed for its caves, waterfalls, and soaring quartzite sandstone columns—as well as the contemporary spirit and dynamism of Changsha as a commercial, manufacturing, and transportation hub.

True to the Park Hyatt brand’s renowned connection to the arts, Park Hyatt Changsha is filled with original paintings and sculptures rooted in the context of their location. Whether attending an intimate event, dining at Lilan, or resting in spacious private quarters, guests will feel as if they are being entertained at an exceptional Changsha abode.

Arrival
With its elegant interiors, exquisitely landscaped gardens, charming floral arrangements, and inspirational contemporary art, the hotel aims to offer unparalleled comfort and exceptionally attentive service to its worldly guests seeking reprieve from their extensive travels.

Guests arrive on Level 4, passing a monumental maple tree, and enter through brass doors into an arrival lobby dominated by elevated artwork interlaced with copper thread and inspired by Hunan embroidery (on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list). Orange reflects the lively spirit of Changsha and the fiery personality of its locals, while the blue symbolizes the waterways throughout the city.

Upon being whisked up to Level 62 in a shuttle lift, guests will emerge into a striking vestibule lined in juniper-colored leather. The antechamber is dominated by a pair of giant bamboo spheres, reminiscent of Ts’u-chü balls, used in the ancient Chinese ball game dating back to the Han dynasty (221–207 BC).

They then emerge into the sky lobby lined floor-to-ceiling in light oak panelling with a curved sixteen-foot-high metallic silk screen adorned with bold gold resin Chinese-style brush strokes. Above the space hangs a dramatic nearly ten-foot-wide hand-made chandelier inspired by chrysanthemum stone by Czech glass and lighting specialist Lasvit.

Drinking and dining—Lilan on Level 62
Spanning the hotel’s entire 62nd floor, Lilan is the dining and drinking destination, which lays claim to five unique venues — a tea room, sun room, dining room, library and bar, all with spectacular views out over Changsha. Led by Executive Chef Zhang Wenwen, the culinary team at Park Hyatt Changsha will showcase authentic local and global comfort food utilizing the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients—organic, sustainable, and locally sourced where possible.

Come evening, and the bar will be an inevitable pre- or post-prandial draw for creative cocktails and mocktails infused with local ingredients and bites with regional touches.

Event spaces—Level 63 and Level 4
With a prized location in the heart of the city, evocative interiors and excellent culinary offerings, Park Hyatt Changsha is well-positioned to stage spectacular events, and has its sights set on being the city’s preeminent location for successful gatherings, big or small.

The hotel offers distinctive, flexible, well-equipped event venues spread nearly 19,375 square feet, suitable for gatherings of 36 to 900 attendees. These venues include the garden pavilion looking out into the lawn as the largest spaces suitable for over 500 banqueting guests combined, as well as the pantry and salons I, II and III which are perfect for hosting smaller groups under 200.

Wellness facilities—Level 48
Guests looking to exercise can swim laps in the 82-foot heated pool fashioned from 250-million-year-old Valser quartzite from the Swiss Alps or kick back on the cabana-style loungers. Alternatively, they can choose to work out in the 24-hour fitness center fitted with the latest cardio and strength equipment by US-based Life Fitness.

Within the changing rooms, guests will find two facilities that are a first for the region. In the laconium, the walls, floor, and loungers are heated, and Himalayan brine salt is diffused into the air for respiratory and dermal health. In the herbal sauna, meanwhile, eucalyptus and ylang-ylang leaves are suspended over a stone heater to provide aromatherapy.

Elsewhere, guests will discover heated loungers overlooking the cityscape; a vitality pool with submerged air-bubble seats, hydro jets and swan neck massagers for muscle stimulation – and experience showers featuring strategically positioned body jets for hydro massage and an option for scented cold mist to leave guests refreshed and invigorated.

The ‘festive’ solar torch lights to make your garden glow are 40% off at Amazom

0

Lovely warm nights, an evening by the garden or pool — what could make this time of year even better? We’ve got an idea — these enchanting outdoor decor pieces: solar garden torches to light up your backyard when the sun finally goes down. Amazon’s got the popular 8-pack set on sale for only $30, down from $50 — that’s 40% off.

Amazon

A great deal at 40% off — just remember to click the on-page coupon for the full discount.

Not only does the solar-powered set include eight lights (versus the standard four), but the added on-page coupon brings it down to the lowest price we’ve seen all year. Because they’re solar-powered, you’re also going to be saving money on your electric bill. Thank you, Mr. Sun!

Short answer? They look fantastic and you will adore them. The long answer is that they automatically charge during the day using the sun’s light, and then they come alive with a soft, flickering light at night; no need to turn them on or off.

Depending on how much direct sunlight they’ve gotten during the day, the torches are made to provide up to eight hours of light. Meanwhile, each one sits on a plastic stake and pole that can be inserted directly into the ground without tools. Should any of the lights burn out, Kurifier offers a one-year replacement warranty.

Artfully place them around the backyard — they give off a fire-flickering look — or use them to light up the pathway to your front door. You can even try lining the pool with them for a relaxing night swim — after all, they’re waterproof. And if you have any planned beach or camping excursions, they’re easy to pack so you can have soft lighting on the go.

Over 6,700 Amazon shoppers have given these lights glowing five-star reviews, with one reviewer even sharing that the “little flames pack a big atmospheric punch.”

👍 Pros:

“Super easy to assemble and install,” wrote this five-star shopper. “Have had them out for a couple of weeks, and even in the shorter days they’re holding their charge and glowing a long time. Great path markers.”

“We got these lights to place around our garden to make spring/summer a little more fun,” shared another pleased Amazon customer. “They are bright, festive and look really good. Lightweight and still sturdy, they seem to be holding up well. And they stay lit for a long time.”

“They’ve been ‘burning’ for four years straight, through summers, falls, winters, including heavy snow storms and springs,” wrote a longtime fan. “They are realistic looking. I love them.” Meanwhile, another Amazon reviewer says that the lights can “stay on until 5 a.m. in the summer.”

👎 Cons:

One Amazon customer notes that the lights are more decorative than not: “They don’t put out a lot of light. So if you are looking for a product to light up a walkway, this is not the one. If you are looking for aesthetics only, this is perfect.”

“I like the fire flickering look,” agreed another. “Unfortunately, one broke just pushing it into the ground. Thin plastic material. Be gentle when placing them in the ground!”

“Gets the job done,” said a third. “Not as bright as we hoped, though.”

These lights are easy to install, waterproof and battery- and cord-free.

A guide to ‘Love Island’ in 2024: How to watch the UK and US versions, where to stream past seasons and more

0

The weather, and your television set, is about to start heating up. It’s not just almost summer time — it’s almost Love Island time! The steamy reality series that started in the UK has become a global phenomenon, with sexy singles from all across the world signing up for a season at the villa. Love Island UK, the show that started it all, is back with Series 11 — or Season 11 for those US fans — this Monday, June 3. Love Island USA will drop the following Tuesday, June 11. Are you ready to dive into the notoriously prolific reality series? There will be new episodes up to six nights a week this summer, so get ready to start streaming. Here’s your guide to Love Island in summer 2024.

Love Island kicks off the summer season with the UK series first, which premieres this Monday, June 3 at 9 p.m. BST (that’s 4 p.m. ET for US viewers, in case you plan on tuning in live with a VPN)

Season 6 of Love Island USA will drop its first episodes the following week on Tuesday, June 11.

Unlike its UK counterpart, which is broadcast in the UK on ITV2 and streams live on ITVX (and on a delay on Hulu for those in the US) Love Island USA only streams exclusively on Peacock.

(Peacock)

Love Island USA streams exclusively on Peacock, alongside all the Bravo shows and more. For $5.99/month, an ad-supported Peacock subscription lets you stream live sports and events airing on NBC, plus, you’ll get access to thousands of hours of shows and movies, including beloved sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office, every Bravo show and Hallmark movie, and movies like Five Nights at Freddy’s and the Super Mario movie. Right now, you can get a year of Peacock Premium for $19.99.

For $12 per month, you can also upgrade to an ad-free Premium Plus subscription which includes live access to your local NBC affiliate (not just during designated sports and events) and the ability to download select titles to watch offline.

And if you’re a student looking to catch the new season of Love Island, Big 10 basketball games and more, you can take advantage of Peacock’s student discount and get an ad-supported subscription for just $1.99/month for 12 months.

$5.99/month at Peacock

(ExpressVPN)

Love Island streams live free on ITVX in the UK. ExpressVPN offers “internet without borders,” meaning you can tune into anything on ITVX for free, just like a UK resident, as opposed to waiting for the new season of Love Island UK to drop on Hulu. All you’ll need to do is sign up for ExpressVPN, change your server location to the UK, and then find the show streaming live on ITVX

ExpressVPN’s added protection, speed and range of location options makes it an excellent choice for first-time VPN users looking to stretch their streaming abilities, plus, it’s Endgadget’s top pick for the best streaming VPN. New users can save 49% when they sign up for ExpressVPN’s 12-month subscription. Plus, the service offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, in case you’re nervous about trying a VPN.

$6.67/month at ExpressVPN

(Hulu)

In the US, you will eventually be able to stream Love Island UK episodes. But the new season of Love Island isn’t set to drop on Hulu until a full week after its UK premiere, so you’ll have to find a way to avoid spoilers. Hulu’s most basic, ad-supported tier will get you access to plenty of other great reality shows, including The Kardashians, The Golden Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise and more.

$8/month at Hulu

Love Island USA is a spinoff of the smash hit UK reality show. The main difference — beyond hosts, contestants, and the amount of prize money the winning couple is awarded — is which accents you’d like to hear as contestants get their chat on around the bonfire at the villa.

Love Island USA is getting a new host for Season 6. Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix will take over hosting duties from Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland.

In the UK, Maya Jama is back for Series 11 of Love Island.

For Love Island USA, new episodes will drop six days a week on Peacock starting June 11, 2024. Last season had 37 episodes over a six week period, and this season is anticipated to follow the same format.

The UK series typically lasts eight weeks, but ITV has yet to confirm the exact duration of the show this season.

You can stream every season of Love Island UK, Love Island All Stars, Love Island Aftersun, Love Island Games, Love Island Australia and all the Love Island reunions free on ITVX in the UK. If you’re watching from outside of the UK, you’ll need the help of a VPN.

You can also catch all of Love Island USA in the UK on ITVX. So if you don’t want to pay for Peacock or Hulu, and you definitely want to watch the UK series anyway, a VPN + free ITVX account may be your best (and cheapest) option.

TiumBio Presents Phase 1b Interim Results for TU2218 in Combination with Pembrolizumab at ASCO 2024 Annual Meeting

0
  • Poster presentation features the interim data from an ongoing Phase 1b clinical trial of TU2218 plus Keytruda combination therapy in patients with advanced solid tumors
  • A 40% overall response rate (ORR) and 100% disease control rate (DCR) were achieved in high-dose cohort (195 mg/day)
  • TU2218 was well-tolerated as a monotherapy and combination therapy with pembrolizumab, with no dose limiting toxicities (DLTs) to date

BOSTON and SEONGNAM, South Korea, June 1, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — TiumBio Co., Ltd. (Kosdaq: 321550), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering and developing innovative therapeutics for patients with rare and incurable diseases, announced interim results from the Phase 1b clinical trial of TU2218 in combination with pembrolizumab at the 2024 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.

TU2218 is a novel oral dual inhibitor targeting transforming growth factor beta receptor 1 (TGFR1) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2). TGF-ß and VEGF pathways in tumor microenvironment interfere with the anti-tumor activity of immune checkpoint inhibitors, so TU2218 is expected to maximize the efficacy of immuno-therapies by inhibiting them.

TiumBio’s ongoing Phase 1b clinical trial (NCT05784688) in the United States evaluates safety, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy of TU2218 in combination with Keytruda (pembrolizumab) in patients with advanced solid tumors. The study consists of three dosage groups (105 mg, 150 mg, and 195 mg/day), and the presentation at the ASCO Annual Meeting included results from 12 patients across the three cohorts. Data from the full Phase 1b trial, which includes 18 patients, will be available in the second half of 2024.

In the poster released at the 2024 ASCO Annual Meeting, five patients treated at the recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) of 195mg/day TU2218 in combination with pembrolizumab demonstrated an ORR of 40% at PR (n=2) and 60% at SD (n=3) with a DCR of 100%. And across all dosage groups, patients (n=12) receiving the combination therapy showed PR at 16.7% (n=2), SD at 50.0% (n=6) and PD at 25.0% (n=3). In this study, TU2218 was well-tolerated as a combination therapy with pembrolizumab, showing no signs of DLTs, which is consistent with a previous monotherapy trial.

“We are encouraged by the preliminary efficacy results with a favorable safety profile in patients with advanced tumors and are looking forward to top-line data from the study, which is expected in the second half of this year,” said Hun-Taek Kim, Ph.D., MBA, CEO at TiumBio. “We plan to initiate a Phase 2a clinical trial in head and neck cancer, biliary tract cancer, and colorectal cancer to develop an innovative novel drug for patients with limited treatment options,” he added.

About TiumBio Co., Ltd.

TiumBio (Kosdaq: 321550) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative therapeutics for patients with rare and incurable diseases. Its mission is to expand the hope and happiness of mankind through our science. Merigolix is a once-daily, oral GnRH receptor antagonist being developed for the treatment of endometriosis and uterine fibroids and is undergoing in global Phase 2 clinical trials. TU2218 is a first-in-class oral immune-oncology therapy targeting TGF-β and VEGF pathways to promote response rates in cancer patients when used in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors. TU7710 is a novel rFVIIa designed to extend its half-life in order to provide more clinical benefits to hemophilia patients with inhibitors.

Are fish oil supplements good or bad for you? 7 things experts want you to know.

0

We’ve all long heard that fish oil is good for heart health, which is why millions of Americans, including 1 out of every 5 people over age 60, gulp back these golden capsules every day without a second thought. The intention is good: Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are essential for bodily functions such as energy, blood circulation, hormone production and more.

While they’re naturally found in fatty fish such as mackerel, wild salmon and herring, many people take fish oil supplements since they’re an easy way to ensure that you’re getting enough of the important nutrient. However, mounting research is calling into question whether fish oil supplements are beneficial and if, in some cases, they cause more harm than good.

Before you start cleaning out your vitamin cabinet, however, here’s what you need to know about fish oil supplements.

A new study published on May 21 in BMJ Medicine found that fish oil supplements, namely over-the-counter ones, may potentially be harmful in some people. The study followed 415,000 people ages 40 to 69 over the course of 12 years, one-third of whom used fish oil supplements. The researchers found that participants who didn’t have a heart condition and took fish oil experienced a 13% increased risk of developing atrial fibrillation, an irregular heartbeat that’s linked to heart-related complications. Healthy participants taking fish oil also had a 5% higher risk of having a stroke.

On the other hand, the study found that fish oil was linked to a 15% lower risk of atrial fibrillation in those who already had heart disease.

A 2023 study analyzed the labels of more than 2,800 fish oil supplements and found that 2,082 — nearly 74% — made at least one health claim, most of which pertained to heart health. Of those, only 399 (19.2%) used a health claim that was supported by scientific evidence. The study also found “substantial variability” in the dosage of omega-3s in the supplements researchers tested.

“I see patients in clinic all the time taking fish oil with the belief it is helping their heart,” study co-author Dr. Ann Marie Navar, associate professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, previously told Yahoo Life. “They are often surprised when I tell them that randomized trials have shown no benefit for fish oil supplements on heart attacks or strokes.”

A 2023 study that tested 72 over-the-counter fish oil supplements over a six-year period found that the majority of them were rancid by the time they reached consumers’ cabinets. How so? In the time between production and consumption, they oxidized (were exposed to too much oxygen) and became unstable, Michelle Routhenstein, preventive cardiology dietitian at EntirelyNourished.com, who was not involved in the study, tells Yahoo Life.

Not only is that a bad deal, taking oxidized supplements “can potentially increase LDL cholesterol levels, negatively contributing to heart health,” Routhenstein says. If you’re wondering about the safety of a fish oil supplement you take, she says it may be rancid “if it has a fishy odor, or if digestive discomfort takes place after consuming it, such as burping, indigestion or diarrhea.”

In general, it’s best to store fish oil supplements in a cool, dry, dark place. You can even freeze them. According to the Arthritis Foundation, that not only helps them last longer but also allows fish oil to be digested more slowly, reducing any aftertaste.

While research indicates that fish oil supplements don’t lower the risk of heart disease, people who eat seafood rich in omega-3s one to four times a week are less likely to die of heart disease, according to the National Institutes of Health.

“As a general guideline, a daily consumption of 500 milligrams of EPA and DHA is recommended for optimal health and cardiovascular well-being,” says Routhenstein, adding that the fish highest in those nutrients are sardines, salmon, trout and mackerel. If you’re vegetarian, vegan or have seafood allergies, “it may be beneficial to supplement,” she adds, because plant-based sources of the nutrient are limited — but they can be found in walnuts and flaxseeds.

Not all fish oil supplements are potentially problematic. Taking high-quality fish oil can help lower triglyceride levels — a type of fat found in the blood that raises heart disease and stroke risk. Fish oil also helps lower inflammation. According to the Arthritis Foundation, research shows that it significantly reduces pain and morning stiffness in people with rheumatoid arthritis, which is an inflammatory autoimmune disease. That said, “the benefits versus risks need to be assessed and recommended on an individualized basis,” says Routhenstein.

Fish oil supplements can potentially interfere with blood-thinning medications “such as aspirin, coumadin or Plavix, increasing the risk of excessive bleeding,” notes Routhenstein. So it’s important to speak with your health care provider before taking fish oil or any other supplements.

Prescription versions of fish oil are more potent than over-the-counter pills and are considered safer, but they’re also more expensive. They may be recommended by doctors for patients who need them, such as those with very high triglyceride levels. “It is best to consult with your health care team, including your registered dietitian who specializes in heart disease, to assess the risks versus benefits,” Routhenstein says. “If a supplement is recommended, individualized dosing and sourcing it from a reputable brand and dispensary is important to ensure effectiveness… and potency.”
