The Managing Director continues: ‘Some of our highlights include “1600 Pandas+ World Tour in Thailand“, That same year, American artist KAWS erected an 8-meter-high rendition of his iconic figurine, “KAWS: BFF” with All Rights Reserved. In 2017, Snarkitecture transformed our ground floor into a fantastical “BEACH” scene, complete with a swimmable sea made up of a million translucent plastic balls, while Japanese artist MADSAKI unveiled never-before-seen evolutions of his signature spray-paint aesthetics at “MADSAKI: Combination Platter”. Fast forward to 2020: Japanese artists Hajime Sorayama and Azuma Makoto of AMKK staged “SORAYAMA Space Park”, the centerpiece being a 12-foot-tall aluminum T-Rex—the former’s largest creation yet—towering over a moon surface landscape envisioned by the latter.’

This year, Central Embassy and Central The1 Credit Card are both celebrating a decade in existence with ‘Central Embassy’s 10th Anniversary Celebration Party with Daniel Arsham BANGKOK 3024′. This world-class immersive presentation transports audiences into a fictitious future that simultaneously forces us to reflect upon our very real present era, culture, and civilization as a whole. For the first time ever, such masterworks as the artist’s Excavation Walls, Zen Garden, five signature eroded sculptures, and the Passage—a site-specific piece created just for Central Embassy—will be available to experience all in one place.

Daniel Arsham’sBANGKOK 3024′ is an immersive presentation, the first of its kind in Thailand, featuring a full-scale takeover by the New York-based artist known for his works of fictional archaeology. Through his signature time- and mind-bending manipulations of architecture, sculpture, and spatial design, Arsham transports audiences out of the moment and into the future, where a fictitious archaeological dig site awaits.

The excavation site appears as a surreal Zen Garden, complete with raked sand paintings and dramatic all-blue walkways intersected by what seems to be concrete walls. Exploded holes in said walls allow spectators to walk through them, encountering five of Arsham’s signature eroded artifacts. Depicting instantly recognizable icons— Stormtrooper: Amethyst Crystallized Figure (2023); Bronze Eroded Dog with Hat (2021); Bronze Eroded Delorean 1:3 (2021); Amalgamized Venus Italica (2022); Blue Calcite Crystallized Jumping Pikachu (2021)—the sculptures are decaying crystal-studded cavities within and raising tensions between the deterioration and regeneration process. These future relics invite questions about what might be left behind for  descendants to find and, just as importantly, what they signify about people of this time.

Arsham’s aesthetic takeover extends beyond the ‘Excavation’ site to include a pop-up ‘Artifacts’ area stocked with numbered editions of the artist’s highly sought-after sculptures as well as future collectibles created exclusively for ‘BANGKOK 3024′. On the floor above, Arsham takes over our BTS Linkage, transforming it into a ‘Passage’. Treated floor-to-ceiling in the artist’s signature eroded and crystallized techniques, this site-specific piece created especially for Central Embassy prepares passersby with an immersive taste of what’s to come.

This presentation is Arsham’s first showing in Thailand, simultaneously sealing Central Embassy’s status as a major stage for globally renowned artists while supporting the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s efforts in boosting Thailand as a world-class event hub. Furthermore, the presentation reiterates our ethos of bringing art seamlessly into the retail space and experience, ultimately offering our visitors yet another pathway through which they can discover and deepen their own aspirations and preferred means of self-expression.

Bar and plant-based restaurant The Sunshine Inn in Redfern, Sydney announces closure

A popular bar and restaurant in Sydney’s inner south is closing its doors after four years in operation.

The Sunshine Inn in Redfern announced it would be shutting up shop earlier this week.

In a statement on Instagram, the venue said the past four years had been “glorious”.

“It’s been a wild ride,” it said.

The venue, which serves plant-based food, will be hosting a farewell dinner on June 6 before its final day of operation at the end of that month.

The Sunshine Inn said the entire venue will be booked out specifically for the dinner, which will consist of multiple courses of staff favourites.

“We’ll also be raiding the cellar to have some extra special wines on offer for one night only,” it said.

For the entire month of June The Sunshine Inn will also be serving $15 negronis as part of its big send off.

Loyal customers were shocked by the news, thanking the team for their service over the years.

“Every meal we’ve had there has been amazing,” one person wrote on social media.

“Thanks for the awesome hospitality and wonderful food. Good luck moving on.”

“Oh that’s so devastating,” another said.

Tickets to The Sunshine Inn’s farewell dinner are $70 per person and are available via their website now.

Dog mom spends $900 taking her pup on month-long European vacation across Italy: ‘Great companion’

A pet owner is making sure her dog gets the royal treatment wherever they travel. 

Catherine Sophie, 23, of Glasgow, Scotland, recently took a month-long vacation — with her dog. 

Teddy is a three-year-old Maltese and a “great companion,” said Sophie, when it comes to traveling.

“I have been really lucky [as] he is so well-behaved. Because I was going by myself, he was great company for me,” she told SWNS. 

As an actress, Sophie often travels for work, she said — and takes Teddy along with her.

This trip, however, was all about leisure, and Sophie said she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving Teddy at home for an entire month. 

“My family adores Teddy, but because I was going for a month it would [have been] a lot for them to take him,” she said to SWNS.

With the airline’s pet fee and the vaccinations Teddy needed beforehand, Sophie said she spent about $500 to get Teddy to Italy — telling SWNS that “it was totally worth it.”

Once the pair touched down on Italian soil, they spent the next month visiting Rome, Bari and Civitavecchia.

“It was something I have always wanted to do,” Sophie told SWNS.

“I am trying to learn Italian, so I thought it would be a great opportunity,” she said.

The pair also visited the Colosseum, the Vatican, Sophie’s great-grandfather’s war grave, the beach — and more. 

After their whirlwind trip, the pair did have to take a longer route back to Glasgow, however.

Sophie wanted to ensure she could be with Teddy on all flights to and from, so she paid extra to make sure he could join her in the main cabin of the airplanes. (SWNS)

Since the United Kingdom doesn’t allow dogs to travel with passengers in the main cabin, Sophie went out of her way to make sure she could sit with Teddy on the way home. 

The pair flew from Rome to Amsterdam, then from Amsterdam to Dublin before getting on a bus to Belfast and taking a ferry to Scotland.

The two-day trip home cost Sophie about $450 extra to ensure Teddy traveled by her side, according to SWNS. 

Sophie said it was worth it, however — as Teddy is her dog and “my responsibility.”

Perth pet owners warned over potentially deadly virus found in Butler dog parks

Perth pet owners have been warned about a potentially deadly virus found at dog parks in the city’s north.

City of Wanneroo confirmed two parks in the suburb of Butler have reported cases of the deadly parvovirus.

The highly contagious virus was detected at Kingsbridge Park and Pembury Park, prompting warnings for dog owners to ensure their pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date.

“The City’s parks maintenance team ensures all parks and open spaces, including our dog parks, are well maintained for the safety of all users,” City of Wanneroo community safety and emergency manager Kirsten Thrush said.

“Unfortunately, due to the highly contagious nature of parvovirus, even when water bowls, play spaces and bins are cleaned regularly there is still a risk to dogs, especially unvaccinated ones.”

The highly contagious virus can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy and dehydration in dogs, and can potentially be fatal.

Butler residents have warned via social media of a number of local cases of the virus.

“Dogs can pick up parvovirus from any open space, including footpaths, beaches and parks,” Thrush said.

“The best thing any dog owner can do to protect their pet is to make sure they are vaccinated.

“I would urge all dog owners to consult their local vet and check if their dog is up to date with its parvovirus vaccinations.”

$22,000 per week? All-inclusive resorts go big to win over luxury travelers

All-inclusive hotels are making a big play for luxury travelers.

In the wake of the pandemic, demand for all-inclusive resorts skyrocketed, according to a report by JLL Research Hotels & Hospitality. Travelers — suddenly and en masse — wanted vacations that were stress-free and easy to plan, ideally with a wellness component, according to the report.  

It was then that travelers discovered that the all-inclusive resorts of the past — known for bottom-shelf booze and quantity-over-quality dining — had changed.

Much of the sector had gone luxe.

As of 2022, the percentage of “upper upscale” and luxury resorts in the Dominican Republic was 47% of total all-inclusive resort supply — up from 31% in 1990, according to JLL. The numbers are even higher in Mexico, where upper upscale and luxury all-inclusive resorts accounted for more than half (55%) of its all-inclusive resorts in 2022.

Rates at all-inclusive resorts— once known as a relatively inexpensive form of travel — are up too, rapidly surpassing 2019 levels, according to JLL.

Marriott and Hilton have also expanded into the sector, under brands travelers may not normally associate with all-inclusive resorts— from DoubleTree to Westin and The Luxury Collection.

Private beaches and butler services

Resort operators have upgraded the all-inclusive experience with everything from grander suites to special resort privileges.

Guests at the beachfront Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort Spa & Casino in the Dominican Republic can opt for a “Unique” room at the resort, which comes with an upgraded room, personal butler and access to a private beach. 

“We are seeing more and more guests traveling for a slow, unplugged experience with an upscale twist,” said Karina Arguello, the resort’s commercial director. “In addition to elements that you receive by booking an all-inclusive resort, private and additional amenities help to elevate that experience.”

Club Med introduced “Exclusive Collection Spaces” in select resorts that grant additional guest benefits, such as private transfers, in-suite continental breakfast, Champagne in the evenings and, as the name implies, access to exclusive spaces in resorts. One of these, Club Med Tignes, is a ski resort near the Italian border that opened in 2022.

The brand also has six resorts — in the Maldives, Mauritius, Italy and France — that make up its “Exclusive Collection.” Rates at its Valmorel Chalet-Apartments, a ski destination in France, start at $2,475 per person in June, and climb to $4,250 per person in December, according to its website.

Sandals, an all-inclusive adults-only resort operator in the Caribbean, provides butler service for its highest levels of suites. Butlers will unpack guests’ belongings, make dinner and spa reservations, serve drinks at the beach and expedite room service orders, according to its website.

Travelers with bigger budgets are opting for those services, said Kelly Connor, a New Jersey-based travel advisor with the AAA Club Alliance. But they’re not alone.

“Honeymooners … like the higher levels of luxury” too, she said.

Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which opened in March 2024, introduced a new room category for the brand — the 1,248-square-foot Vincy overwater two-story villa. A seven-night stay at the end of June for two adults with butler service is $22,505 —and that’s after a 55% rack rate discount.

Opened in 2024, Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is the brand’s 18th all-inclusive resort.

To combat the critique that all-inclusive vacationers don’t see much beyond the resort, the Sandals Royal Curacao and Sandals Royal Bahamian is providing guests who stay a week in a butler-serviced suite with a $250 voucher to dine at restaurants around the island. They’re also provided with a convertible Mini Cooper to get there.

Another option: luxury lodges

Half- and full-board dining options have long been popular in places like the Maldives, whose one-resort-per-island model makes it difficult to eat elsewhere.

But luxury resorts, many located in remote locations, are opting for all-inclusive models as well.

Rosewood Cape Kidnappers, a luxury lodge on New Zealand’s North Island, provides a half-board option for guests, which includes breakfast, dinner and aperitifs, but excludes other alcoholic drinks.

Rates at British Columbia’s Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge include all meal and snacks, plus wine, beer and spirts. A stay in one of the lodge’s 25 tents also comes with guided activities, such as swimming in glacial waters and a half-day wildlife-spotting trip, according to the website.

Rates start at $2,900 per night.
