BTS comeback tour turbocharges concert tourism, with hotel searches jumping as much as 6,700%

0

Concert tourism is expected be one of the travel industry’s more lucrative drivers this year, according to Trip.com, and the upcoming global comeback tour by K-pop group BTS appears to be reinforcing that trend.

Flights and hotel rooms at their tour locations — in 34 cities across Asia, North and South America, Australia, Europe and the UK, from April 2026 to March 2027 — have sold out just as fast as their concert seats, and spillover tourists are expected to lend an additional income boost to host cities.

Within 48 hours of the tour announcement on Jan. 13, travel searches for South Korean cities Seoul and Busan increased by 155% and 2,375%, respectively, compared with the week before the announcement, according to the travel booking platform Hotels.com.

The momentum’s also extended beyond South Korea. In the host city Kaohsiung, Taiwan, searches surged 6,700% year on year during the Nov. 19 tour date, according to another travel agent platform, Booking.com.

Other major tours expected to draw international travel this year include those by Bruno Mars, Harry Styles and K-pop group EXO.

Fastest fingers win

Despite covering more regions than they’ve ever had and tripling their ticket inventory, BTS’ latest tour titled ‘Arirang,‘ sold out in 20 minutes. Their last “Permission to Dance” tour in 2021-2022 sold out in 5-6 hours.

Fans who were unable to complete their purchases due to internet connection issues or poor reflexes during ticket sales have had to resort to the secondhand market.

Resale ‘Arirang’ ticket prices responded to the voracious appetite of fans, with some tickets featured on the resale platform StubHub going for around $7,276, nearly 40 times the original price, according to checks by CNBC.

Fans also struggled to find suitable accommodations, as high demand fueled price gouging.

Hotel rooms near major transit hubs in South Korea were fully booked on BTS’ tour dates, despite some charging more than double typical weekend rates, according to local reports.

Short-term tourism boost

Though concert tourists typically travel only to see their idols on stage, their sporadic yet concentrated presence can generate sharp spikes in spending, said Prudence Lai, a consultant at Euromonitor International.

That’s because the scarcity of such one-off events, as opposed to the reliability of annual events, creates a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for fans, which drives up demand and makes the industry so lucrative, Event Tickets Center’s Chief Marketing Officer, Ben Kruger said.

For comparison, the annual music and arts festival Coachella in California generated roughly half as many web searches as BTS’ ticket announcement managed to procure, Kruger noted.

There was a concentrated surge in searches for three- and four-star accommodations close to BTS’ concert venues across host cities, according to Hotels.com.

More than just proximity to concert venues, these tourists also consider other factors when choosing an accommodation. Travelers also consider cost, safety and service consistency when booking accommodations, Lai said.

Some hotels are already adjusting to cater to the needs of concert tourists. In Spain, Palace Hotel Madrid has prepared concierge teams to support transportation planning and dining options before and after concerts by BTS and Puerto Rican performer Bad Bunny, whose world tour overlaps in June.

Concertgoers who add a couple of days to their trip, on the other hand, are more akin to “business travelers, adding on a leisure trip after the business trip”, Lai said.

She added that as opposed to luxury travelers who want the full-on personalized experience, concertgoers only “want a place to sleep and then go to the concert. So it’s a very different type of tourism that we’re looking at right now.”

Novel Anti-Fibrotic Drug AK3280 Cleared by FDA to Initiate Phase 2 Proof-of-Concept Clinical Trial in IPF

0

SHANGHAI, Feb. 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Shanghai Ark Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (“ArkBio”) today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared its Investigational New Drug (IND) application for AK3280, a novel anti-fibrotic therapy for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This clearance enables ArkBio to initiate a Phase 2 proof-of-concept (PoC) clinical trial of AK3280 in the United States.

The Phase 2 study is a multi-center, randomized, partially double-blind, placebo- and active-controlled trial designed to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of oral AK3280 in patients with IPF. Authorization to proceed with a U.S. Phase 2 study represents a significant milestone in the global clinical development of AK3280.

IPF is a progressive, irreversible, and ultimately fatal interstitial lung disease characterized by fibrotic remodeling of lung tissue that leads to respiratory failure. The median survival following diagnosis is approximately 2–5 years. Currently approved therapies, including pirfenidone, nintedanib, and nerandomilast, can slow disease progression; however, their clinical benefit remains limited and they are frequently associated with gastrointestinal adverse events such as diarrhea and nausea. These tolerability challenges contribute to poor long-term adherence in a substantial proportion of patients. There remains a significant unmet need for therapies that provide improved efficacy with enhanced safety and tolerability profiles.

AK3280 is an optimized, small-molecule, broad-spectrum anti-fibrotic agent. In a Phase 2 proof-of-concept study conducted in China, AK3280 demonstrated encouraging clinical activity, including a statistically significant, dose-dependent absolute increase from baseline in forced vital capacity (FVC) at Week 24. Improvements were also observed across additional lung function parameters, suggesting meaningful clinical benefit. Importantly, AK3280 exhibited a favorable safety and tolerability profile, with no apparent increase in the gastrointestinal adverse effects commonly associated with currently available IPF therapies.

FDA clearance of the IND marks a pivotal step in the global development of AK3280. The upcoming international Phase 2 PoC trial is expected to generate critical clinical data to support future regulatory submissions and potential commercialization in the United States and other major markets. ArkBio remains committed to advancing AK3280 globally and to delivering more effective and better-tolerated treatment options for patients living with IPF.

FAA abruptly halted El Paso flights over Defense Department’s plans for anti-drone technology

El Paso International Airport

Google Earth

The Federal Aviation Administration abruptly grounded all flights in and out of El Paso International Airport in Texas on Wednesday for 10 days — and then lifted the order hours later — over anti-drone technology the Department of Defense was testing, according to a person briefed on the matter.

The two agencies were scheduled to discuss safety precautions later this month, but the Department of Defense sought to use the technology earlier the person said. The FAA closed airspace early Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Trump administration official said the Department of Defense disabled Mexican cartel drones that had breached U.S. airspace. The Pentagon declined to provide further detail, including about the possible wreckage of the drone.

The Trump administration said there was no threat to commercial air travel currently.

The airport sits next to Biggs Army Airfield and is near the Mexican border, about 12 miles from Juarez, Mexico.

A person briefed on the matter earlier Wednesday said that the Department of Defense was testing laser counter-drone technology.

The FAA initially halted flights in El Paso until late Feb. 20 and the ban applied to a 10-nautical-mile area around the airport. The FAA hadn’t immediately disclosed the security reasons for the temporary sudden halt or why it was set for so long.

Security personnel outside El Paso International Airport after the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration lifted its temporary closure of the airspace over El Paso, saying all flights will resume as normal and that there was no threat to commercial aviation, in El Paso, Texas, U.S., February 11, 2026.

Jose Luis Gonzalez | Reuters

While the FAA regularly halts flights at airports for weather, traffic or even rocket launches, a security issue is highly unusual, as is announcing such a long effective airspace closure.

El Paso Mayor Renard Johnson called the temporary grounding a “major and unnecessary disruption” and called for better communication from the federal government.

Lawmakers question disruption

Some lawmakers criticized the Trump administration for how the sudden order played out.

Rep. Rick Larsen of Washington, the ranking member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and Rep. André Carson of Indiana, ranking member of the subcommittee on aviation, called it “unacceptable.”

“While we’re not happy with the disruption, we commend the FAA for taking swift action to protect travelers and ensure the safety of U.S. airspace,” they said in a joint statement. “We look forward to pursuing a bipartisan solution that strengthens interagency coordination and ensures that the Department of Defense will not jeopardize safety and disrupt the freedom to travel.”

U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, a Texas Democrat whose district includes much of El Paso, said the move to suddenly close airspace was “unprecedented.”

“There was no advance notice provided to my office, the City of El Paso, or anyone involved in airport operations,” she said in a statement.

FAA abruptly lifts order halting El Paso flights: Here’s what you need to know

Nearly 3.5 million passengers passed through the airport in the first 11 months of 2025 and it is served by Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, United Airlines and Frontier Airlines, according to airport data.

There were 1,314 departures scheduled for the El Paso airport this month, according to aviation data firm Cirium, including about 40 departures on Wednesday.

Southwest has 23 flights scheduled at the airport Wednesday, out of more than 3,000 systemwide. The airline said Wednesday it is resuming operations to and from El Paso and encouraged travelers to check its website for updated information.

“Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees,” it said.

United said it didn’t cancel any flights and that it canceled an earlier travel waiver.

Ribo and Ribocure Announce Exclusive Global Licensing Agreement with Madrigal for Novel siRNA Therapeutics Targeting MASH

0

SUZHOU, China and MÖLNDAL, Sweden, Feb. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Suzhou Ribo Life Science Co., Ltd. (HKEX: 06938) (“Ribo”) and its subsidiary Ribocure Pharmaceuticals AB (“Ribocure”) today announced that they have entered into an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDGL) (“Madrigal”) for six pre-clinical small interfering RNA (siRNA) programs for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

The collaboration will utilize Ribo’s validated liver targeting siRNA GalSTARTM platform to develop novel treatments for MASH. The license agreement covers multiple existing pre-clinical assets from Ribo. In addition, both parties have the option to expand the scope of collaboration onto new siRNA programs including bi-specific siRNAs (agents that target two disease-causing genes simultaneously) utilizing Ribo’s unique GalSTARTM and siRNA chemical modification platforms.

We are enthusiastic to join forces with Madrigal Pharmaceuticals, drawing on their extensive knowledge together with our siRNA expertise to advance life changing therapies for people affected by liver disease, says Dr. Zicai Liang, CEO of Ribo.

To have the opportunity to work with the company that successfully launched the world’s first drug for MASH, a disease with rising prevalence and strong associations with numerous life-threatening comorbidities, is very encouraging. Leveraging our proprietary siRNA platform, we aim to expand the MASH therapeutic landscape through complementary, multi-mechanistic approaches, delivering more targeted and effective treatments for patients with unmet needs, says Dr Li-Ming Gan CEO of Ribocure and co-CEO of Ribo.

Financial Considerations
Under the agreement, Ribo has granted Madrigal an exclusive global license to develop, manufacture, and commercialize several siRNA assets. Ribo will receive an upfront payment of US$60M and cumulative payments could reach US$4.4B if certain development, regulatory and commercial milestones are achieved, as well as potential royalties on net sales.

About MASH

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), formerly known as nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, liver cancer, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. MASH is the leading cause of liver transplantation in women and the second leading cause of all liver transplantation in the U.S., and the fastest-growing indication for liver transplantation in Europe.

Once patients progress to MASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (consistent with stages F2 to F3 fibrosis), the risk of adverse liver outcomes increases dramatically: these patients have a 10-17 times higher risk of liver-related mortality as compared to patients without fibrosis. Those who progress to cirrhosis face a 42 times higher risk of liver-related mortality, underscoring the need to treat MASH before complications of cirrhosis develop. MASH is also an independent driver of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of mortality for patients.

As MASH disease awareness improves and disease prevalence increases, the number of diagnosed patients with MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis or compensated MASH cirrhosis (F2-F4c) is expected to grow.

Light Stone Jewellery’s “Wearable Culture Map”: Defining a New Era of Quiet Luxury through Architectural Silence

0

SINGAPORE, Feb. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — In an era of noise, Light Stone Jewellery articulates a new dialect of quiet luxury through the silence of its forms. Unveiling a portfolio that functions as a “Wearable Culture Map,” the brand introduces a curatorial approach to designer jewellery, bridging the structural rigour of modern aesthetics with the profound resonance of Eastern antiquity.

Light Stone Jewellery's Tianqing Collection: Reviving the Northern Song Dynasty's Ru Kiln aesthetic for the modern woman.
Light Stone Jewellery’s Tianqing Collection: Reviving the Northern Song Dynasty’s Ru Kiln aesthetic for the modern woman.

Light Stone stands as an intellectual proposition for the contemporary woman. It rejects the transient nature of trend-driven fashion, choosing instead to anchor its identity in the permanence of the modern heirloom. The brand’s philosophy treats every necklace and earring as a geographical coordinate—a precise intersection where the weight of history meets the lightness of contemporary design. Simultaneously, the designs channel a “quiet power,” reflecting the inner strength of the contemporary woman—one who, like deep waters, remains composed and unaffected by the external noise of the world.

The Urban Planner’s Eye: Structure and Void

At the helm of this aesthetic system is Founder Jingjing, whose pedigree in Urban Planning and a Master in Management from ESCP Europe, combined with GIA certifications, informs the brand’s distinct architectural logic.

Jingjing approaches jewellery not merely as ornamentation, but as “Spatial Composition.”

“To me, a piece of jewelry is a coordinate,” says Founder Jingjing. “It maps the silence of history onto the modern body. I navigate the space between structure and instinct, applying the principles of urban planning—balance, void, and tension—to allow the wearer to inhabit the design, rather than simply display it.”

The Brutality of Perfection: The Celadon & Ru Kiln Collection

The core of the collection is the Celadon Tianqing (天青) Collection, a testament to the brand’s uncompromising standards. This series utilizes two primary elements: the nearly lost Ru Kiln technique and Longquan Celadon—a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Among these, the Ru Kiln pieces are exceptionally rare. The firing process requires temperatures exceeding 1380°C, with rare agate infused into the glaze to achieve the legendary “sky after rain” hue. The extreme chemical volatility of this process results in a high failure rate. Light Stone collaborates with master ceramicists to revive this millennial art, yet the selection criteria are ruthless. In every batch of Ru Kiln beads, those meeting the brand’s standard are far below 10%, often dropping to a mere 5%.

The majority are discarded for microscopic imperfections in form or glaze surface. Only the surviving 5-10%—possessing the perfect “Ice Crackle” texture and an unblemished jade-like warmth—are elevated into the Celadon Imperial Earrings. This scarcity is not manufactured; it is the physical residue of a structural dialogue between fire and gravity.

A Cartography of Four Dimensions

The “Wearable Culture Map” extends beyond porcelain, plotting four distinct aesthetic coordinates across China’s material history:

  • The Silk Road (Dunhuang) Collection: Capturing the golden echoes of desert murals, these pieces translate ancient floral patterns into geometric gold vermeil structures.
  • Totem (Majiayao) Collection: Drawing from prehistoric motifs, this series creates a primitive tension, turning Neolithic lines into bold, sculptural forms.
  • Filigree (Huasi) Collection: A study in silver precision. This series deploys the imperial art of thread-weaving to build air-light structures that possess the strength of architectural steel.
  • Celadon (Tianqing) Collection: The crystallization of silence, offering a tactile serenity that cools the skin and calms the mind.

The “Culture Map” is a living geography. Continuing its exploration of diverse regional craftsmanship, Light Stone has announced an upcoming expansion into the art of Lacquer, marking a new coordinate on this unfolding aesthetic journey.

About Light Stone Jewellery

Light Stone is a designer jewellery brand established in 2018 by founder Jingjing. The brand is dedicated to exploring the tension between “historical gravity and aesthetic ease.” Currently, Light Stone leverages dual studios and logistical hubs in Singapore and Shanghai, utilizing Singapore’s efficient global infrastructure to offer Global Priority Shipping. This ensures that every precious artistic asset reaches international collectors with speed and security.
