SINGAPORE, Jan. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The eighth edition of the Singapore Biennale 2025 (SB2025) is on view through 29 March 2026. Guided by the theme of pure intention, audiences are invited to experience Singapore through immersive, participatory, and site-responsive works that reflect the rituals, histories, lived experiences and aspirations that have shaped our environments. These encounters encourage the public to discover different layers of the city’s rhythms and evolving identity, opening new ways of seeing, feeling, and connecting through art.
SB2025 activates five neighbourhoods across the city, comprising over 100 artworks by more than 80 artists, alongside independent presentations from a diverse network of invited curatorial collectives. At Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, artworks explore the complex interplay of history, technology, memory, and daily life. Paul Chan’s bright nylon figures greet visitors, evoking shifting notions of the body, pleasure, and one’s relationship to nature. In the gallery, Álvaro Urbano’s stainless steel plants become characters in a carefully staged environmental theatre, reflecting on our layered histories of plantation agriculture and orchid diplomacy. RRD (Red de Reproducción y Distribución) explores everyday expressions from street-food packaging to artisanal plates, presenting unexpected connections between Singaporean and Mexican culinary cultures.
Along Singapore’s Orchard shopping belt, SB2025 activates strata-titled malls and the former Raffles Girls’ School at 20 Anderson Road. Step into the school field to encounter a transdisciplinary project by curatorial contributor Hothouse that questions the tamed definition of “nature”. Look out for a “lucky cat” hidden amongst greenery, as Salad Dressing examines the ethics of rewilding, displacement and spiritual ecology.
In the Civic District, the Biennale activates monuments and public spaces like Fort Canning Park. lololol presents an after-dusk journey with a site-responsive light installation at the Lighthouse, and a sound walk around the park that speaks to the history of wayfinding. Scan the QR code to kickstart a GPS-enabled, self-guided sound walk, and immerse in a narrative shaped by the artists’ encounters with lighthouses, keepers and crypto-linguists.
Along the Rail Corridor and its surrounding spaces, artworks explore how infrastructures shape how people live and belong. At Wessex Estate, Blenheim Court, the sea lingers in Jesse Jones’ film and installation, where oyster shells are used to explore hydrofeminism and prehistoric ecofeminism. Have a kombucha by Huang Po-Chih, with unique flavours using ingredients from the artist’s hometown in Taiwan, and economic crops that were once widely grown in Singapore. The work is also sold at multiple sites for Biennale-goers to enjoy.
SB2025 is commissioned by the National Arts Council, Singapore, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and organised by Singapore Art Museum. Find the full list of venues, artists and programmes at SB2025’s website, or follow Facebook (@SingaporeBiennale) and Instagram (@sgbiennale).
As Australian children head back to school this week, parents across the country are facing the annual challenge of packing nutritious lunchboxes that kids will actually eat.
Pediatric dietician Karina Savage has shared her expert advice on creating healthy, balanced lunchboxes without the pressure of Instagram-perfect presentations.

Savage recommends focusing on three key food groups. First, whole-grain carbohydrates such as grainy bread, wholemeal bread, grainy crackers, and popcorn, which help children concentrate and stabilise blood sugar levels throughout the day.
Second is protein, but Savage warns against processed meats like ham and salami; she suggests good-quality protein sources, including eggs, hummus, edamame, tuna, and barbequed chicken.

The third essential group is plant foods, with Savage recommending two serves of fruit and two serves of vegetables.
She also advocates for including a small treat in lunchboxes, saying it helps to normalise pairing treat foods with healthy eating and makes sure kids are less likely to sneak these kinds of foods.
For parents navigating the confusing snack aisle, Savage offered three simple guidelines: look for shorter ingredient lists, choose muesli bars with less than five grams of sugar per serve, and select savoury snacks with less than 350 milligrams of sodium per 100 grams.
Savage’s favourite snack recipe is a black bean brownie, a recipe she shared with Nat and Shirvo on Monday.

Air travel disruptions will linger into Monday even after a winter storm that forced airlines to cancel more than 15,000 U.S. flights over the weekend clears out.
The winter storm is bringing heavy snow, ice, and sleet, followed by bitter cold across much of the country.
More than 3,000 flights were canceled for Monday, far fewer than over the weekend but a sign that airlines will need a day to recalibrate after the storm. Over 40% of Monday’s departures from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport, and a third of the schedule of Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, were canceled, as were more than 60% of those out of Boston.
Only 34 Tuesday flights were canceled thus far, however.
Airlines routinely cancel flights ahead of a major storm to prevent planes, passengers and crew from getting stranded, which can worsen disruptions after severe weather clears. January is a low season for travel but the vast storm was snarling travel across the country for hundreds of thousands of people.
American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and other U.S. carriers said they are waiving change and cancellation fees as well as fare differences to rebook for customers with tickets to and from more than 40 airports around the country. The waivers include restrictive basic economy tickets.
American, JetBlue and Southwest are scheduled to report results this week, and their executives are likely to receive questions from analysts about the impact of the storm on their financial results.
The winter storm comes less than a month after airspace was closed over parts of the Caribbean following the U.S. attacks in Venezuela, prompting mass flight cancellations at the end of the holiday season.
On Sunday, airlines canceled 11,400 U.S. flights, according to FlightAware, with affected airports stretching from Texas to Maine.

Nearly 90% of Sunday flights were canceled at LaGuardia Airport in New York and 99% at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. More than 74% of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, which have more international flights, were also canceled for Sunday.
Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines cancelled 1,471 mainline flights on Sunday, close to half of its schedule, while Atlanta-based Delta scrubbed 1,307, or 40%, according to FlightAware. Close to half the flights at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest, were canceled.
Even airports out of the storm’s path were affected as airlines grounded planes.
American said last week that it was repositioning its airplanes and increasing staffing at major airports to help soften the impact of the storm and to “set the stage for a fast, safe recovery once conditions improve.”
More than 20 U.S. states were under emergency declarations this weekend due to the massive winter storm.
As of 10:05 a.m. ET Sunday, more than 797,000 U.S. customers were without power, with the worst hit areas being Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana, according to PowerOutage.com.
The Department of Energy issued an emergency order temporarily authorizing grid operator PJM Interconnection to run power generation facilities to help ensure electricity amid extreme temperatures and storm impact across the mid-Atlantic region, though it may exceed environmental permit restrictions.
“As Winter Storm Fern brings extreme cold and dangerous conditions to the Mid-Atlantic, maintaining affordable, reliable, and secure power in the PJM region is non-negotiable,” U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.
The Department of Energy also authorized the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, to run backup generators for the state.
The National Weather Service warned last week that the winter storm could affect hundreds of millions of people and is expected to “bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England through Monday.”

Hotel rooms are being redesigned in ways that are catching some travelers off guard.
Across a range of hotel brands, traditional hinged bathroom doors are being replaced with sliding panels, frosted glass, curtains or, in some cases, no separation at all between the bathroom and sleeping area, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Hotel operators have pointed to rising construction, maintenance and energy costs as key factors behind the shift, the publication noted.
5 DIRTIEST SPOTS IN HOTEL ROOMS: WHAT EXPERTS SAY TO DO AT CHECK-IN
The changes are intended to simplify room layouts and reduce long-term costs, but many guests say the tradeoff has come at the expense of privacy.
Travelers have taken to social media to complain about the lack of privacy in hotel bathrooms.

Hotel rooms are increasingly adopting open or unconventional bathroom designs that blur the line between the bathroom and sleeping area. (iStock)
On Reddit, users have shared stories of hotel stays featuring bathrooms with no doors at all, as well as partially enclosed spaces, sliding doors that do not fully close and frosted glass panels separating the toilet or shower from the rest of the room.

Many commenters said the layouts made shared stays uncomfortable, particularly when traveling with partners, family members or friends. They cited concerns about being able to hear or see activity inside the bathroom.

Across social media, many people said the layouts feel uncomfortable because they offer little privacy when sharing a room. (iStock)
“I don’t want to watch anybody use the bathroom, and I’d like some privacy,” one commenter wrote.
Some travelers said bathroom layouts are not always clearly disclosed online, making it difficult to know what to expect until after check-in.

Travelers are taking extra steps to avoid rooms without bathroom doors altogether.
“I’ve started calling hotels and asking if all of the rooms have doors,” a Reddit user wrote.

Some travelers say they now take additional precautions, including calling hotels ahead of time to confirm that bathrooms have doors. (iStock)
Digital marketer Sadie Lowell began tracking hotel bathroom layouts after encountering rooms without traditional doors, according to her website, Bring Back Doors.

While many travelers have voiced frustration, some say the design is manageable when staying with a significant other or close friend — though that isn’t always the case.

Baseus Nomos NH21 6-in-1 Desktop Charging Station with Dual Retractable Cables 245W
The 245W Nomos model serves as a comprehensive desktop energy hub, featuring dual 0.8m braided USB-C retractable cables, two additional USB-C ports, one USB-A port, and Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, supporting up to six devices simultaneously.
Normally, desktop chargers require users to carry and plug in extra cables, which often leads to tangled cords, cluttered desks, and limited reach. To address this pain point, Baseus introduces an innovative integrated design with two retractable USB-C cables that extend securely for flexible reach and retract neatly when not in use — replacing messy traditional cords while withstanding over 35,000 pulls for lasting durability.
Delivering up to 245W total output, including dual USB-C ports capable of 140W each, the Nomos NH21 applies BPS 3.0 intelligent power distribution to automatically allocate power across connected devices for optimal efficiency and safety. Its advanced GaN technology ensures higher power delivery in a cooler, more reliable form factor. Unlike conventional chargers that concentrate heat in the main body, the 6-in-1 245W model adopts a split design that effectively disperses thermal load to the power adapter, enabling stable, high-wattage charging for multiple devices simultaneously. A built-in digital display further enhances usability with real-time power and current monitoring.
The charger is compatible with a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and cameras — such as iPhone 12–17, MacBook, MateBook, Galaxy, iPad, Switch, DJI, and GoPro. It also supports Qi2 wireless charging for the iPhone 12–17.

Airlines canceled more than 13,000 U.S. flights this weekend as a massive winter storm swept across the country, bringing heavy snow, ice and sleet, followed by bitter cold.
More than 4,000 flights on Saturday were canceled, according to flight tracker FlightAware. Many of Saturday’s cancellations were in and out of Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, with nearly 1,500 scrubbed flights, and at Dallas Love Field, with 190 cancellations, the majority of the schedule at each airport.
American Airlines, based in Fort Worth, Texas, had canceled 1,056 Saturday flights, more than a third of its mainline schedule and Southwest Airlines canceled 579 flights, or 20%, according to FlightAware.
U.S. flight cancellations more than doubled to nearly 9,100 on Sunday when the storm is expected to hit the mid-Atlantic and Northeast U.S. As of Saturday afternoon, most flights from Raleigh-Durham International Airport in North Carolina to Portland, Maine, were canceled. Major airline hubs were affected as far south as Atlanta, where Delta Air Lines is based.
Nearly 90% of Sunday flights were canceled at LaGuardia Airport in New York and 96% at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. More than 70% of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, which have more international flights, were also canceled for Sunday.
