Eva Longoria, 49, loves this $10 concealer that doesn’t settle into fine lines

0

It’s hard to believe that anyone has ever considered actress, producer and director Eva Longoria anything other than stunningly beautiful, but it’s true. Back in 2023, she shared her skin care and makeup routine with Vogue and in the video she reveals she was once called the “ugly duckling.” Now, of course, she’s undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous people in the world and we’re all clamoring to copy her beauty regimen.

Amazon

Tears, sweat beads and rain drops are no match for this waterproof formula. You can wear it all spring and summer long and it won’t budge.

In less than 15 minutes, Longoria demonstrates her “hottest mom” makeup look using a mix of high and low products. One that stands out as truly transformative? The L’Oreal Paris Infallible Waterproof Matte Concealer she applies at the three-minute mark on top of her eyelids and above her brows. In the video, Longoria explains that she prefers this creamy concealer to powders. “Especially as you get over 40, all that powder just gets in those fine lines,” she says.

As you watch Longoria apply the concealer in her video, you’ll see she dabs a bit onto her eyelids and then adds some above and between her brows. Next, she uses a makeup sponge to blend it all in and — in moments — she has a smooth, flawless finish with just this one product.

If concealer isn’t currently part of your everyday makeup routine, then it’s worth considering the addition of this popular product. Available in 25 shades, this creamy liquid formula delivers maximum coverage that is designed to stay put on your skin for up to 24 hours. According to the product description, you can use this concealer to cover up blemishes and even out skin tone in addition to using it to contour and highlight.

What reviewers say 💬

Like Longoria, thousands of Amazon shoppers are fans of the L’Oreal Infallible Concealer. There are nearly 14,000 five-star reviews, with customers saying it delivers excellent coverage and is a great value.

“My favorite affordable concealer,” one person titled their review.”I’ve been using this concealer for a couple of years now and I absolutely love it. It’s the best affordable concealer I’ve ever used. I got sick of paying a good chunk of change for the Nars concealer so I looked for a dupe. Nothing beats the Nars concealer in my eyes, but this one comes pretty close. It is a thicker consistency and is full coverage.”

“I’ve tried many concealers and I keep going back to this one,” another customer said. “[It] stays on and doesn’t crease on my 70-year-old skin! Has a wide selection of shades and the price is right!”

One important application tip prospective shoppers should keep in mind when purchasing this L’Oreal concealer? Quick blending is key.

“[This is a] pretty good matte formula, but blending it can be a little hard as it does seem to dry quickly,” one person explained. “It does cover well.”

Another shopper added, “It’s very easy to blend but you have to blend it within the first minute or so of applying it or else it will start drying up.”

L’Oréal Paris

Though this concealer goes on creamy, it does dry down to a matte, non-shiny finish. It works well on all skin types, including acne-prone skin.

Want to scoop up some of the other products Longoria uses in her video? Here you go! She starts her skin care routine with L’Oreal’s Revitalift 1.5% pure hyaluronic acid face serum, she uses Laneige’s lip sleeping mask on her pout and she perfects her brows with the Huda Beauty eyebrow pencil. You’re welcome.

The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.

When to book holiday travel this fall: ‘That window of low prices is brief,’ economist says

0

If you want — or need — to travel this holiday season, start planning now because the ideal time to book Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s travel is fast approaching

“The most important thing is for travelers to continue to think about planning now and booking in October,” said Hayley Berg, lead economist at travel site Hopper. “That window of low prices is brief, but it can really pay off.”

More from Personal Finance:
American demand for international trips drives ‘travel momentum’
Relocating retirees want lower costs of living
Homeowners may be ‘overconfident in their retirement readiness’

But travelers who miss that window might have a last resort: so-called Travel Tuesday, which is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

That day, “pretty much the whole travel industry goes on sale,” said Berg.

Whenever you decide to confirm your reservations, keep in mind that traveling during the holiday season can be fraught with complications, said Sally French, a travel expert at NerdWallet.

“The holidays are a difficult time to travel because not only are you dealing with what’s likely to be tougher holiday weather, but also working with bigger crowds,” said French.

Here’s how to make sure you’re getting a good value.

When prices will be at their lowest

Prices for holiday travel are slightly higher compared to this time last year, said Berg.

On average, round-trip flights for Thanksgiving — defined as departures from Nov. 24 to 28 — currently cost about $298, according to Hopper’s 2024 Holiday Travel Outlook report. That is up 10% from a year ago and 3% from pre-pandemic levels, the travel site found.

Prices are expected to fall by about $40 on average until they reach their lowest level in early October, when prices will likely be in line with 2023 levels, the report noted.

Similarly, airfare for Christmas trips — defined as the week of Dec. 21 to 25 — are hovering at an average $406 per round-trip booking, up 4% from a year ago and 13% from pre-pandemic, per Hopper.

Why a trip to Disney World or Disneyland may have gotten too pricey for the average American family

However, prices are expected to fall by about $80 from current levels until they reach their lowest point in October, according to the report.

“It’s really important for travelers to be thinking about booking their travel now, so that when October rolls around, they’re ready,” said Berg.

If you are “super last-minute and want to book something for Christmas or New Year’s,” according to Berg, “one good day to bookmark” is Dec. 3, or this year’s Travel Tuesday.

“You might get lucky and … swing something last minute,” said Berg, as the deals that day can include major discounts on hotel stays, airfare and rental cars.

How to avoid holiday the travel ‘domino effect’

During the holiday season, disruptions are more likely to happen because airlines and airports are operating more flights than usual, and bigger crowds can lead to “domino effect” issues, experts say.

An example: if one flight is 15 minutes late pulling away from a gate, that can affect the flow of air traffic for an entire terminal, said Berg.

But the “biggest risks” are usually inclement weather and technical malfunctions, she said.

You might get lucky and … swing something last minute.

Hayley Berg

Lead economist at Hopper

Here are four key things to consider:

  • Avoid flying on peak days. For example, around Thanksgiving, avoid the Sundays before and after the holiday, experts say. In the past years, the Sunday after Thanksgiving set records as the busiest day to fly, or the number of travelers passing through TSA checkpoints, said French.
  • Take the first flight of the day. Try to book one of the first flights of the day because you avoid being affected by delays and cancellations, said Berg. You’re two times more likely to be affected by flight delays or cancellations after 8 a.m., she said.
  • Allow time for delays and cancellations. If it’s critical for you to be at your destination, “bake in extra time to get there,” and travel a few days in advance, said French. “If it’s really important that you’re there for actual Christmas dinner, fly in a few days early,” she said.
  • Broaden your search. It can be helpful to know what other airports are nearby, said French. If you know of other airports, it may help you find more affordable options. It could end up being a longer drive to get to your destination, but it can make sense if it’s critical you get there, she said.

The Breakthrough Therapy designation stems from the provisions of 《Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act》. It is designed to expedite the development and regulatory review of drugs for treating serious diseases and addressing significant unmet medical needs. The designation will be beneficial for the drugs to obtain the FDA’s guidance in the clinical development, accelerate the overseas clinical development process, and is also expected to significantly shorten the time for marketing review through the priority review designation.

The Breakthrough Therapy designation is based on the significant improvement in efficacy metrics demonstrated by the sublingual tablets in a previous clinical study. The data from a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled Phase III clinical study in China for the treatment of AIS demonstrated that Sanbexin sublingual tablets significantly improved neurological recovery and independent living ability in patients with AIS compared to placebo, meeting the expected efficacy endpoints with a favorable safety profile. JAMA Neurology published the study’s key findings online.

The designation will be beneficial for Simcere to obtain the FDA’s guidance in the clinical development of Sanbexin sublingual tablets, accelerate the overseas clinical development process, and is also expected to significantly shorten the time for marketing review through the priority review designation.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa sustained another concussion. Why multiple head traumas are cause for serious concern.

0

During Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, Tua Tagovailoa, starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, sustained a concussion that took him out of the game. It isn’t the first time the 26-year-old has left the field with a head injury; the latest was the third concussion Tagovailoa has been diagnosed with during his five-year National Football League career. In fact, one of his prior injuries resulted in a change to the NFL’s return-to-play rules. And with this latest head injury, some former players are urging Tagovailoa to consider retiring to protect his brain health.

Here’s what to know about Tagovailoa’s multiple concussions, and why experts say they’re cause for serious concern.

While running for a touchdown, Tagovailoa collided headlong with the chest and arm of the Bills’ safety, Damar Hamlin (who, coincidentally, made headlines last year when he suffered cardiac arrest during a game and was revived on the field). Tagovailoa’s body appeared to crumple into Hamlin, before he fell backwards, his helmet bouncing against the turf. “Tua’s head jerked violently to the side and, when he went to the ground, he was showing what’s called the fencing posture, which means he was unconscious,” Chris Nowinski, CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation, tells Yahoo Life. The fencing posture is “basically a deep reflex in the brain that causes one of his arms to go straight and his fist was balled up; it indicates that the brain stem was involved and is a sign of a more severe concussion,” he adds.

Tagovailoa eventually walked off the field unassisted, but was diagnosed with a concussion within minutes. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa was in good spirits during a press conference following the game, but it’s not yet clear when the quarterback will return to play.

A concussion, or traumatic brain injury, can affect how the brain works. Multiple concussions, like Tagovailoa has had, are more likely to do so, experts say. And he’s likely had more than three such injuries, Nowinski suspects. “He’s just had three diagnosed in the last two years in the NFL,” he says. “He had a long career before the NFL. The more concussions you get, the greater the risk of cognitive and mental health problems later on.”

A concussion can cause headaches, changes in alertness, loss of consciousness, memory loss, and changes in thinking, according to Penn Medicine. In rare cases, these effects can be long-lasting, or progress to more severe neurological problems and disease, including seizures, mood or personality changes and mobility or balance issues. But with each additional concussion, the likelihood that the next will be severe increases, experts say.

One study found that athletes with a history of three or more concussions are significantly more likely to lose consciousness, have memory loss or “mental status changes” that last longer than five minutes. Another study found that those who have had three or more concussions had worse brain function later in life than those who had fewer or no concussions. “There’s no question that repeated severe concussion events put you at risk for severe neurological disease later in life,” Dr. Alexander Khalessi, a University of California, San Diego, neurosurgeon, tells Yahoo Life.

In extreme cases, repeated blows to the head can lead to a degenerative brain disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Symptoms include behavioral and mood changes, including aggression, impulse control problems and paranoia, as well as cognitive changes that affect memory and judgment, and sleep problems, according to the Concussion Legacy Foundation.

The vast majority of people diagnosed with CTE are athletes who play contact sports, such as football or rugby, as well as military service members (and, less commonly, victims of violence). It happens to people who have suffered hundreds of hits to the head, which may include concussions. But a few concussions alone are unlikely to lead to the disease. “There is not a statistical correlation between the number of diagnosed concussions and CTE,” says Nowinski. “However, CTE is a concern already, as 91.7% of NFL players studied have had CTE, and many never had diagnosed concussions.”

In 2007, a forensic neuropathologist first discovered signs of CTE-like damage in the brain of the late NFL player Andre Waters, who had died by suicide months prior. In the years that followed, pathologists have concluded that multiple former NFL players who died by suicide suffered from CTE, including some cases of murder-sucide. Analysis of the brain of Aaron Hernandez, a former tight end with the New England Patriots who died by suicide following his murder conviction in 2013, showed CTE too.

The difficult-to-ignore link between athletes’ repeated brain injuries and later acts of violence was a reckoning for the NFL. “The NFL has been taking concussions a little more seriously each year,” says Nowinski. “Only 15 years ago we had to fight them to hold players out of the game after they were knocked unconscious.” For example, former quarterback Brett Favre claims he sustained thousands of concussions over the course of his NFL career. Most were undiagnosed — and that’s exactly the problem that Nowinski continues to come back to.

The NFL introduced new protocols in 2011 for spotting potential concussions on the field, diagnosing them as soon as possible, keeping neurologists on hand during game, and immediately sidelining and assessing any player with a suspected concussion (though the league didn’t officially recognize the link between on-field concussions and CTE until 2016). Millions of dollars have also been funneled from the NFL into research to improve player safety, including with Guardian Caps, specialized helmets intended to absorb some of the force of a hit.

But for Tagovailoa — who had a hard landing during a 2022 game, followed by another one four days later, which led to his first concussion diagnosis and prompted the NFL to update its concussion protocols — there’s a concern the damage may have already been done.

Now some former players and experts are urging Tagovailoa to retire to protect his neurological health. Nowinski — himself a retired wrestler — says he doesn’t think that’s necessary yet, and notes that other players have had successful careers after major concussions. But he adds that it’s worth considering. “I would strongly suggest a conversation with his family where he considers whether football is worth the money, or he should start his second career now,” says Nowinksi.

He adds: “We already know that each year of playing football increases the odds of developing CTE. When you add the risk of post-concussion syndrome or a new mental health disorder from concussions, it’s a good time to remember that we only have one brain, and once it’s damaged, we don’t necessarily know how to fix it.”

Flight attendant goes viral on TikTok for attempting to ease common flying fear

A flight attendant has gone viral after sharing her advice for people who may be nervous flyers.

Rhia Kerr, 23, has been working for Ryanair, an Irish carrier group, for five months.

She recently posted a TikTok video, which has garnered more than 2.5 million views, with tips on how to calm yourself if you should experience turbulence on an airplane.

In the footage, Kerr is seen sitting in an aircraft while explaining the definition of turbulence.

“Turbulence is a sudden shift in airflow and can be felt as jolts or vibrations inside the aircraft,” the text on the video said.

“When we experience turbulence, naturally our brains can’t comprehend being out of control and the sensation of falling can cause our brains’ fear response center to send a distress signal into our brain.”

She said airplanes are designed to withstand serious turbulence, and there’s no reason to panic.

She shared some tips with Fox News Digital about how to combat those turbulence fears — one of them being to get noise-canceling headphones for distraction.

“If you suffer with anxiety around turbulence, things I would recommend doing is getting noise-canceling headphones, as certain noises that the aircraft makes can be unsettling,” she said.

Kerr also said she recommends a nervous flyer writes a list of things to do or exciting moments that will happen once he or she gets off the plane. This would function as a distraction from the turbulence, she added.

Some of the tips included were to use noise-canceling headphones and write down a to-do list.  (iStock)

She also said, “Try finding breathing exercises on YouTube or TikTok beforehand [and] put these into practice during turbulence.”

Kerr said it’s not unusual for a nervous flyer to alert the airplane crew of their mentality so that they can keep an eye on the passenger if turbulence does occur.

“Turbulence can be determined by forecasts, it is worth asking the crew before departure if you are going to expect any as they have most likely been briefed about this before takeoff,” Kerr said.

In her video, Kerr said, “aircrafts cannot fall out of the sky due to turbulence — the law of physics keeps it suspended in the air.”

“You are in very safe hands,” she said.

Boeing warns strike will ‘jeopardize’ recovery, hurt aircraft production

Boeing CFO Brian West said the labor strike that began just after midnight Friday will hurt aircraft deliveries and “jeopardize” the company’s recovery, hours after factory workers overwhelmingly rejected a new labor contract and walked off the job.

West said the financial impact of the strike will depend on how long it lasts, but that it will affect the company’s production of its bestselling planes, including its cash cow bestseller, the 737 Max, which is produced in Renton, Washington.

“The strike will impact production and deliveries and our operations and will jeopardize our recovery,” West said at a Morgan Stanley conference on Friday. “So our immediate focus is to the laser-like focus on actions to conserve cash, and we will.”

He said Boeing’s priority is to get back to the bargaining table and “reach an agreement that’s good for our people, their families, our community.”

Boeing shares fell sharply on Friday after Moody’s put all of Boeing’s credit ratings on review for a downgrade and Fitch Ratings said a prolonged strike could put Boeing at risk of a downgrade, actions that could drive up the borrowing costs of a manufacturer that already has mounting debt.

Boeing shares closed nearly 4% lower Friday.

West declined to say whether the company could meet a rate of producing 38 737 Max planes per month by the end of the year.

Jefferies aerospace analyst Sheila Kahyaoglu had previously estimated that a 30-day strike could be a $1.5 billion hit for Boeing.

West said Boeing’s immediate focus would be “on actions to conserve cash” and added that new CEO Kelly Ortberg would be working to restore relationships with the union.

Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers had unveiled a tentative labor agreement on Sunday that included 25% wage increases over four years and other improvements to health-care and retirement benefits. But workers had been looking for raises of 40% and argued that it didn’t cover the increased cost of living.

Workers in the Seattle area and in Oregon voted 94.6% to reject the proposal, and 96% voted in favor of a strike.

They walked off the job after midnight on Friday.

Boeing machinists last went on strike in 2008, a work stoppage that lasted nearly two months.

The potential production disruption comes as the manufacturer has been facing a slew of issues. It’s struggled to ramp up production and restore its reputation following safety crises.

A door plug blowout on a nearly new Boeing 737 Max 9 in January led the Federal Aviation Administration to bar Boeing from increasing output of its Max planes and the FAA to boost inspections at production plants, until the regulator is satisfied with its safety and quality procedures there.

An FAA spokeswoman told CNBC on Friday that the agency will keep its inspectors at Boeing facilities during the strike.
