DHS abruptly reverses suspension of TSA PreCheck

0

The Transportation Security Administration said on Sunday that its PreCheck airport screening lanes are operational, an about-face hours after the Department of Homeland Security said the faster security checkpoints were paused amid the partial government shutdown.

Travel industry leaders said they received little, if any, warning of the changes to PreCheck, a program that allows its 20 million pre-screened members to pass through airport security faster than at standard lanes. Industry members spoke with DHS officials in the past few hours and expressed alarm about the sudden decision, people familiar with the matter said.

“At this time, TSA PreCheck remains operational with no change for the traveling public,” TSA officials said in a statement. “As staffing constraints arise, TSA will evaluate on a case by case basis and adjust operations accordingly. Courtesy escorts, such as those for Members of Congress, have been suspended to allow officers to focus on the mission of securing America’s skies.”

The agency said that “until funding is restored, all travelers should expect a process that does not sacrifice security. ”

DHS early Sunday said that PreCheck and Global Entry and other program suspensions were scheduled to take effect at 6 a.m. ET on Sunday. As of 12:40 p.m. ET, its updated statement still included a suspension of Global Entry but it had removed its mention of PreCheck.

“We are glad that DHS has decided to keep PreCheck operational and avoid a crisis of its own making,” Geoff Freeman, chief executive of U.S. Travel, an industry group whose members include major airlines, hotel chains like Hyatt and Marriott International and tourism boards around the country.

The move comes as a partial U.S. government shutdown that has left thousands of DHS workers, including TSA airport screeners, working without pay since it started on Feb. 14.

“TSA and CBP are prioritizing the general traveling population at our airports and ports of entry and suspending courtesy and special privilege escorts,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.

Noem blamed Democrats for the shutdown. Democrats and Republicans remain at an impasse over immigration policy.

“Shutdowns have real world consequences, not just for the men and women of DHS and their families who go without a paycheck, but it endangers our national security,” she said. “The American people depend on this department every day, and we are making tough but necessary workforce and resource decisions to mitigate the damage inflicted by these politicians.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, (D-N.Y.), pushed back, saying the Trump administration is “choosing to inflict pain on the public instead of adopting common sense” reforms of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.

DHS did not say whether it expected to reverse its suspension of Global Entry or what prompted the change. The White House referred an inquiry from CNBC to DHS.

Travel industry experts sharply criticized the move before it was reversed, which comes just months after last year’s record federal government shutdown cost airlines millions of dollars and hurt bookings, according to executives.

The sector’s leaders have consistently complained about how air travel has ended up at the center of repeated shutdowns and have pushed lawmakers to ensure that essential government workers are paid during funding lapses.

A government shutdown in 2019 ended shortly after a shortfall of air traffic controllers disrupted flights. Air traffic controller shortages, already problematic, also spiked during the 2025 government closure, snarling air travel shortly before it ended in November.

The government shutdown in the fall, the longest ever, cost the travel industry and other sectors $6.1 billion, the group said. Those disruptions affected about 6 million travelers.

“A4A is deeply concerned that TSA PreCheck and Global Entry programs are being suspended and that the traveling public will be, once again, used as a political football amid another government shutdown,” said Airlines for America CEO Chris Sununu. The group represents American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and other major carriers.

“The announcement was issued with extremely short notice to travelers, giving them little time to plan accordingly, which is especially troubling at this time of record air travel,” he added.

3 national parks slash red tape for Americans by boldly transforming visitor entry

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Three of the country’s busiest national parks will no longer require advance reservations during peak seasons this year.

The National Park Service announced this month that Arches, Glacier and Yosemite national parks are removing timed-entry systems that had been used in recent summers to manage heavy crowds.

Yosemite also will not require reservations for its popular “firefall” viewing period this season.

Timed-entry systems were introduced in recent years to limit the number of visitors entering parks at one time, particularly during busy summer months, the park service noted.

“Our national parks belong to the American people, and our priority is keeping them open and accessible,” said Kevin Lilly, acting assistant secretary for Fish, Wildlife and Parks, in a news release.

Lilly said the agency is expanding access where conditions allow while continuing to use targeted tools to protect visitor safety and park resources.

At Arches National Park, officials confirmed that a timed-entry reservation system will not be used in 2026.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive early, stay flexible and explore less-crowded areas if popular sites fill up. Arches is also an international dark sky park, and after-hours visits are encouraged.

Glacier National Park will also eliminate its park-wide vehicle reservation requirement this summer.

However, the park will continue managing congestion in high-demand areas such as Going-to-the-Sun Road and Logan Pass.

Yosemite National Park will not require advance reservations in 2026, including during the February and March firefall period.

Instead, the park will rely on real-time traffic controls, seasonal staffing increases and temporary parking management if lots reach capacity.

Airlines cancel thousands of flights ahead of another monster winter storm

Airlines canceled more than 5,000 flights through Monday and waived cancellation and change fees for airports spanning Virginia to Maine ahead of another massive winter storm on the East Coast, set to once again put carriers to the test at the tail-end of winter break.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for much of New Jersey, the New York City area, and parts of Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The storm could dump more than 2 feet of snow in some areas as well as bring wind gusts of more than 40 miles per hour. The NWS warned that travel will be trecherous with low visibility.

About two-thirds of the flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and LaGuardia Airport were canceled on Sunday as were around 40% of the departures, according to FlightAware. Disruptions are set to worsen on Monday with snow continuining to fall. More than 70% of Monday departures were canceled at Boston Logan International Airport.

Airlines routinely cancel flights ahead of major storms to avoid having aircraft and crews out of place and to make it easier to restart operations after the storm passes.

Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines and Spirit Airlines waived fees and fare differences for passengers if they can travel as late as Feb. 26. Southwest Airlines said customers are eligible for a change without paying a difference in fare if they can rebook to fly or fly standby within two weeks.

Winter Storm Fern in January, followed by bitter cold, caused mass travel disruptions across a large swath of the U.S.

American Airlines had struggled to recover, drawing harsh criticism from flight crews, some of whom were stranded and had to sleep at airports, heightening tension between frontline employees and the company’s CEO, Robert Isom.

The storm cost American between $150 million and $200 million in revenue, the carrier said last month on an earnings call.

Melbourne couple welcomes baby boy after heartbreaking fertility struggle

0

A couple spent more than a decade trying to have a baby, enduring multiple miscarriages, 14 embryo transfers and tens of thousands of dollars in fertility treatments — yet they never gave up hope.

Amanda Bale, now 37, and Heath, now 43, started trying for a baby soon after their 2013 wedding.

“We were trying for close to a year and nothing was happening,” Amanda said.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

Working as a teacher and running a playgroup, Amanda loved being around children, but she was longing for her own.

The couple turned to IVF for help. Their first cycle produced five embryos, with two transferred, but both ended in early pregnancy losses.

In IVF, once eggs are fertilised in the lab, the resulting embryos are carefully placed into the woman’s uterus — a process called a transfer — in the hope that one will implant and grow.

The heartbreak of coming so close and losing them was devastating.

“They just swindled off and I lost those,” she recalled.

Over the next 11 years, Amanda and Heath endured heartbreak after heartbreak with several early pregnancies resulting in miscarriage.

“Our fourth pregnancy, we got pregnant at seven weeks and five days with a heartbeat. And then a week later, at a follow up scan, the baby’s heartbeat had stopped,” Amanda told 7NEWS.com.au.

“Our fifth pregnancy, we had a heartbeat at six weeks and three days and then the repeat scan in 2023 showed that it had stopped and baby was no longer growing.”

Each time, they picked themselves up and tried again, but over the years, the emotional and financial toll was immense.

“I reckon it’s probably a house deposit or more,” Amanda said of the cost of all the treatments.

“It’s that trauma of each month would I have a positive reading or would it be, you know, back to square one,” Amanda said.

For many couples, repeated loss can strain relationships, lead to blame or distance.

“Until a specialist or a doctor says to you and I that we can’t have children, then we’re not going to just give up. I’m going to keep persevering,” Amanda said.

Asked if they ever truly lost hope, Amanda said no.

“I don’t think so. I think I always had in my heart that I’d be a mum someday. I just didn’t know like, when it would happen,” she said.

After several failed attempts, Amanda suggested changing clinics. The couple moved to Primary IVF, which has since changed to Adora Fertility.

“I came home and I said to Heath, I think we should look at maybe getting our last three embryos cured across to a different clinic, worth trying something different,” Amanda said.

That change proved pivotal.

“Dr Stephanie Sii is just incredible. She’s just so lovely and genuine,” Amanda said.

She said the doctor was determined to try a different approach.

“She was just determined to get us to the point where we’d try any different protocol to see if, we could actually get to the success of falling, and continuing to stay pregnant and get to the finish line.”

One major shift involved Heath undergoing a procedure to collect sperm under anaesthetic on the same day as Amanda’s egg collection, rather than providing a sample in the usual way.

“Surgical sperm retrieval or testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) is a technique where sperm is directly harvested from the testicles via a syringe, performed under local or general anaesthetic,” Sii told 7NEWS.com.au.

“This technique is considered for a variety of reasons, including obstructive, structural, genetic or infective causes and where the quality of ejaculated sperm is poor.

“Sperm extracted this way can enable better sperm selection to improve embryo quality.”

While Amanda said the procedure sounded promising, Heath found the idea of undergoing the procedure under anaesthetics more difficult, although the new approach removed pressure.

“If anyone was hesitating to go and have their sperm collected via a procedure and going under anaesthetic, it was worth it — just knowing the quality was better and that you didn’t have to deal with the stress of putting it in a cup, and you’re in such a tiny little room…” he said.

“I think in his mind he was like, oh no, I don’t know if I can do this. And I said to him, ‘you can, because I’m going in the same day’,” Amanda added.

“He came out into recovery and he was like, okay, like, felt nothing.”

After collection, the eggs were fertilised with the sperm in the lab and cultured.

The couple transferred two embryos, something previous specialists had declined.

“Sii was like, we’re going to go in for two and we’re going to get that result,” Amanda said.

Of the two embryos transferred, one successfully implanted.

‘A miracle that has taken so many years’

After 13 setbacks over 11 years of IVF, Amanda finally got the call they had been hoping for.

“On the 25th of June 2025, I had a positive pregnancy reading,” she said.

This time, the scans didn’t fall apart.

Amanda and Heath’s son Brodie, finally arriving after 11 years of IVF.

And then, earlier than expected, their son arrived at 34 weeks and three days.

“Last Wednesday morning, my waters broke at three o’clock in the morning at home and it was born at 10:31 last Wednesday night,” she said.

“You know, a miracle that it’s taken so many years.”

Now home with baby Brodie Matthew Beale, Amanda hopes their story gives other couples strength — especially those deep in the middle of it.

“We wouldn’t be here today if we did give up.”

Trump airport renaming advances amid controversy. Here are others named for presidents

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Despite backlash over Florida lawmakers approving a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport after President Donald Trump, the move would place him among a growing list of commanders in chief whose names already greet travelers on airport terminals across the country.

If finalized by Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Federal Aviation Administration, Palm Beach International would become the ninth commercial U.S. airport named after a president, joining hubs from New York to Houston.

The name change would go into effect on July 1 if signed into law, according to reports, making Trump the first to receive the honor while still in office.

MAJOR AIRPORT COULD SOON BE RENAMED AFTER DONALD TRUMP UNDER NEW GOP BILL

Palm Beach International Airport holds particular significance, as it is located just minutes from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, which serves as his primary residence.

Following approval by the Florida House and Senate, some Democrats in the Sunshine State pushed back, citing concerns over the cost of rebranding and what they described as a lack of community input, Fox News Digital previously reported.

The 2026 Spring Festival Gala Effect: Yiwu Transient Spotlight into Lasting Tourism Growth

0

YIWU, China, Feb. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — A news report from Yiwu Media Convergence Center:

On New Year’s Eve, the stunning debut of the Yiwu sub-venue at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala showcased “A Different Yiwu” to the world. Far from concluding with the gala’s end, Yiwu transformed its fleeting on-screen brilliance into a tangible New Year experience, igniting the potential for holiday cultural tourism consumption.

From “Highlight Stage” to “Lasting Attraction”

The Spring Festival Gala effect continues to reverberate, bringing a “strong start” to Yiwu’s cultural tourism market. Since the Spring Festival, Yiwu has recorded a total of 2.6757 million tourist visits across its regions, a year-on-year increase of 30.87%. Comprehensive tourism revenue reached 2.408 billion yuan, up 28.43% year-on-year.

Starting from the first day of the Chinese New Year, ten Gala-related check-in spots were gradually opened to the public. As of the fourth day of the new year, the cumulative foot traffic had exceeded 650,000.

As the main stage for the 2026 Spring Festival Gala sub-venue, the Yiwu Global Digital Trade Centre received 61,900 visitors on its opening day, driving nearly 1 million yuan in consumption at the on-site New Year market. Ximen Old Street restored the aesthetic scenes from the Gala, featuring the magnificent rattle-drum stage, dazzling phoenix lantern displays, and alleyways where tradition met modernity, attracting throngs of visitors. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, the street received 12,100 visitors, and by the fourth day, single-day foot traffic exceeded 30,000, with average daily numbers continuing to climb.

From “Online Traffic” to “Offline Consumption”

During the Spring Festival holiday, Yiwu implemented a combined strategy of “Event Matrix + Consumption Incentives + Industrial Chain Extension” to fully unleash consumption potential.

The event matrix achieved comprehensive coverage. Centered around the 2026 Spring Festival Gala sub-venue locations and five major commercial districts, Yiwu coordinated with 14 towns and sub-districts to launch 166 “Explore Yiwu with the Spring Festival Gala” Spring Festival cultural tourism experience activities, ensuring “each town has its unique feature, with surprises every day”. Fotang Tourist Resort hosted immersive activities during the holiday, such as ancient town rooftop concerts, and intangible cultural heritage stage performances, accumulating over 600,000 tourist visits and achieving total tourism revenue exceeding 40 million yuan.

The industrial chain was extended in an integrated manner. By blending the Gala’s IP with local culture, Yiwu developed 17 co-branded cultural and creative products with the 2026 Spring Festival Gala, including Year of the Horse woven bags and intangible cultural heritage rattles, along with over a hundred “Yiwu Gifts” specialty items. Seven pop-up stores for Gala cultural creative products were opened at the airport, train stations, and key commercial districts. An online “Yiwu Gifts” store was launched, four double-decker buses were transformed into mobile pop-up shops, and a “Spring Festival Gala Post Office” was established in collaboration with China Post. To date, total sales of cultural and creative products have exceeded 5 million yuan.

Matildas cop ‘absolutely cruel’ blow as keeper Teagan Micah ruled out of Asian Cup

0

Luckless goalkeeper Teagan Micah has been forced to withdraw from Australia’s Women’s Asian Cup squad after sustaining another concussion.

Micah has not played for club side Lyon in over a month after copping a head knock in training.

She was named in the Matildas squad on Thursday but Football Australia announced on Saturday that she would be replaced by Brisbane Roar No.1 Chloe Lincoln.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

Micah has suffered her fair share of head knocks over her career and lost her status as Australia’s first-choice ‘keeper in the lead-up to the 2023 World Cup as she recovered from concussion.

“I am truly devastated to have to withdraw from the Asian Cup,” Micah wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

“I recently sustained another concussion and although I have pushed my hardest to be back in time, I am simply just not ready.

“The timing feels absolutely cruel… and sometimes football and elite sports can break your heart and truly test you not just as a player but as a person.

“My priority is my health, my long term career and to get back to playing here in OL.”

Micah’s withdrawal will mean Mackenzie Arnold becomes coach Joe Montemurro’s No.1 for the tournament which kicks off on March 1 when Australia face the Philippines in Perth.

Lincoln has won just three caps and joins Arnold and the uncapped Jada Whyman in Montemurro’s squad.

“Chloe has earned this opportunity through her hard work and professionalism,” said Brisbane A-League Women coach Alex Smith.

That means swimmers can enjoy music without blocking their ears — and without worrying about damaging their headphones mid-lap.

But the biggest selling point? These savvy headphones don’t actually rely on Bluetooth — instead, they feature in-built MP3 storage so you can load your music directly onto the device.

So you can say goodbye to loose connections and signal dropouts when you’re in the pool.

While the new headphones are a game-changer for avid swimmers — they are set to be a standout for anyone who loves to exercise outside.

Think hiking, biking and any kind of outdoor training, the waterproof design means no more worrying about sudden downpours.

Plus, their secure fit means they won’t budge if you’re entering uneven terrain.

Shokz is known for its open-ear headphones which allow you to stay aware of your surroundings, making them ideal for outdoor exercise.

Unlike traditional in-ear headphones, open-ear designs sit outside the ear canal and use bone-conduction technology so you can stay aware of your surroundings.

The result? You can enjoy your music or podcast while still hearing traffic, fellow cyclists or nature around you — a major plus for safety-conscious runners and riders.

“Absolutely blows my mind how clear the sound quality is underwater and has totally changed my lap swimming and lawn mowing,” writes one happy reviewer.

“These headphones are BRILLIANT. Swimming without music is boring, now – I can’t believe how fantastic these are,” adds another.
