Boehringer Ingelheim and Simcere partner to advance a dual-target antibody treatment to address unmet needs in inflammatory bowel disease

0
  • Novel TL1A/IL23p19 bispecific antibody targets drivers of disease pathogenesis to overcome the efficacy ceiling in inflammatory bowel disease.
  • License and collaboration agreement strengthen Boehringer’s inflammatory disease pipeline with a potential, first-in-class, pre-clinical asset.
  • Boehringer receives global rights to the asset, excluding greater China; Simcere is eligible to receive payments of up to EUR 1,058 million

SHANGHAI, Jan. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Simcere Pharmaceutical Group Ltd. (“Simcere”) (HKEX: 2096) and Boehringer Ingelheim, today announced a license and collaboration agreement to develop SIM0709, a pre-clinical TL1A/IL23p19 bispecific antibody from Simcere, for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Cooperation of Simcere and Boehringer Ingelheim
Cooperation of Simcere and Boehringer Ingelheim

Globally, it is estimated that more than three million people are affected by IBD, a lifelong, progressive condition leading to frequent hospitalization and surgeries, significantly impacting patients’ quality of life. Current medical options cannot fully prevent or reverse these complications, leaving a clear unmet need. Through this partnership, Boehringer and Simcere aim to advance an innovative approach to potentially redefine treatment possibilities and improve outcomes for patients worldwide.

SIM0709 is a long-acting humanized bispecific antibody developed by Simcere using its proprietary multi-specific antibody platform. It simultaneously targets tumor necrosis factor ligand superfamily member 15 (TL1A) and interleukin-23 (IL-23), thereby blocking two core pathways that drive the onset and progression of IBD. Both in vitro primary cell studies and in vivo animal studies, SIM0709 demonstrated superior synergistic efficacy, even outperforming the combination of the two corresponding monotherapies.

Carine Boustany, US Innovation Unit Site Head and Global Head of Immunology and Respiratory Diseases at Boehringer Ingelheim said, “In IBD, too many patients continue to progress and experience severe complications despite currently available anti-inflammatory therapies. We are excited to join forces with Simcere to accelerate the development of this therapeutic as a potential life changing option for patients living with IBD.”

“Simcere’s bispecific antibody SIM0709 was engineered with our proprietary multi-specific antibody platform with first-in-class potential for IBD treatment. Partnering with Boehringer Ingelheim, with its long‑term commitment and deep expertise in immunology, positions the compound for rigorous global development,” said Gaobo Zhou, Chief Investment Officer, Simcere Pharmaceutical Group. “Together we aim to accelerate the clinical development and advance a treatment option that could improve outcomes for patients world-wide affected by IBD.”

Under the terms of the agreement Boehringer receives global rights to the asset, excluding greater China. Simcere is eligible to receive an upfront payment as well as success-based development, regulatory and sales milestones up to EUR 1,058 million, as well as royalties on net sales outside of the Greater China territory.

This marks Simcere’s second out- licensing transaction in the autoimmune field. As of January 2026, Simcere has completed a total of 5 out-licensing deals for its self-developed novel drug technologies, with a total potential transaction value of approximately $4.6 billion.

The Sanya EDITION Redefines Contemporary Chinese New Year Escapes for the Year of the Horse 2026

0

SANYA, China, Jan. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Set along the pristine coastline of Hainan, The Sanya EDITION draws inspiration from the vast ocean that surrounds it, striking a refined balance between natural serenity and contemporary energy. From the moment of arrival, the experience is designed to impress: guests pass through lush tropical gardens before arriving at a semi-open lobby, where layered teak wood pavillions, reflective water features and bamboo groves frame uninterrupted views of the South China Sea. A gentle sea breeze carries the signature scent of Le Labo black tea, while impeccably styled hosts move with an effortless rhythm, lending the space an atmosphere reminiscent of a modern runway set within a secluded island retreat.

The Sanya EDITION – Chinese New Year

Driven by a commitment to continual innovation, The Sanya EDITION continues to expand the boundaries of contemporary resort living, contributing to the evolution of Hainan’s and China’s wider vacation market. As one of the largest EDITION hotels worldwide, the property has, since 2019, pioneered large-scale festive seasons and New Year celebrations, later evolving into a comprehensive Chinese New Year program. From the opening of Hainan’s first natural grass tennis court to the debut of the island’s first acrylic tennis court certified with a two-star rating by the International Tennis Federation (ITF); from the early introduction of a destination-style Beach Club to the presentation of Sunset Moment fire dance performances—these first-of-their-kind initiatives continue to set benchmarks for modern luxury resort experiences. Many of these “firsts” found their origin at The Sanya EDITION.

Within these pioneering efforts, sports facilities have become an integral part of the resort’s lifestyle offering. Specially selected for Sanya’s tropical coastal climate, the natural grass tennis courts feature Platinum TE Paspalum grass, combining superior heat tolerance, ecological adaptability, and a fine, uniform texture to deliver a tournament-grade playing experience with elevated sensory refinement. The ITF two-star certified acrylic courts combine professional performance with a contemporary aesthetic, featuring a distinctive palette of pink and sky blue. Pink reflects vitality and innovation, while sky blue echoes the surrounding coastal landscape, allowing sport, design and resort living to seamlessly converge into The Sanya EDITION’s signature Sportcation experience. In addition to tennis, the resort also offers pickleball and padel courts, further enriching its multi-dimensional sports landscape. All courts are equipped with energy-efficient, high-brightness lighting systems, ensuring consistent playing conditions from day to night.

As the Year of the Horse Chinese New Year approaches in 2026, The Sanya EDITION presents a festive season that blends tradition and art, offering a contemporary interpretation of island celebrations. As night falls, a water projection show will unfold above the resort’s unique Private Ocean, where light and water intertwine to create a fully immersive visual experience. On Chinese New Year’s Eve, a luminous Lion Dance performance will take center stage, with glowing silhouettes moving to powerful drumbeats, symbolizing strength and renewal. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, traditional dragon and lion dances will bring vibrant energy to the resort, reimagined within a relaxed island setting.

Festivities continue with the dramatic molten iron fireworks show, as thousands of sparks cascade through the sky like falling stars, illuminating the water below. Drone show will animate the night sky with scenes of New Year blessings, while the “Realm of Light and Silhouettes” aerial performance features phoenix and winged horse soaring overhead—symbols of vitality, prosperity and good fortune for the Year of the Horse. Floating lanterns will drift gently across the water, adding a quiet moment to the celebrations.

Beyond visual spectacle, gastronomy forms a central part of the festive experience. The Sanya EDITION is home to five distinctive restaurants and two bars, led by a creative culinary team offering diverse, all-day dining concepts. The Jade Egret presents modern European cuisine paired with a curated selection of wines and classic cocktails, while Beach Barbacoa blends relaxed seaside dining with bold Indonesian flavors inspired by Jimbaran Bay. Market at EDITION takes inspiration from traditional Chinese warehouses, offering a dynamic mix of local and international cuisines across live cooking stations, including raw bar, bakery, open-fire grill and juice bar. The Sky Bar, perched at the top of the hotel, overlooks the South China Sea, serving as a tranquil poolside retreat by day and a vibrant social lounge by night. On Chinese New Year’s Eve, Xian Hai by the Sea will present a special reunion dinner, featuring a bespoke festive menu crafted from seasonal ingredients.

The Sanya EDITION - Chinese New Year
The Sanya EDITION – Chinese New Year

During the Chinese New Year period, Market at EDITION will offer a themed seafood hotpot dinner buffet from 13 to 23 February 2026, served daily from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The Jade Egret will introduce a series of limited-time menus, including a Valentine’s Day Special Menu on 14 February, a Chinese New Year Special Menu from 16 to 17 February, and a guest chef collaboration from 18 to 19 February with Edorta Lamo, Michelin One Star and Michelin Green Star Chef of Arrea! Restaurant in Spain, presenting an authentic expression of Basque mountain terroir. The Sky Bar will offer both Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year themed afternoon teas, while Beach Barbacoa at EDITION will feature special menus for both festive occasions.

From illuminated night skies to shimmering waters, from cultural performances to refined culinary experiences, The Sanya EDITION redefines the Chinese New Year through the lens of contemporary resort living—where celebration meets restraint, and tradition unfolds through modern imagination.

Heartbeats Shareholder Mr Lu Min Yong Honoured as “Global Chinese Role Model” at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala Evening

0

SYDNEY and BEIJING, Jan. 27, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Heartbeats proudly congratulates its shareholder, Lu Min Yong, on being awarded the title of “全球华人楷模” (Global Chinese Role Model) at the Global Chinese Spring Festival Gala Evening held as part of the 2026 Chinese New Year celebrations in Beijing, China.

This honour recognises Mr Yong’s exceptional contribution to business leadership, cross-border collaboration, and nation-building infrastructure, most notably through his leadership of CREGA Australia Pty Ltd, which played a critical role in Australia’s landmark Sydney Western Harbour Tunnel.

Through CREGA’s partnership with global engineering leaders, Mr Yong helped deliver some of the most advanced large-diameter tunnel boring machines ever deployed in the Southern Hemisphere. These achievements not only set new technical benchmarks for Australian infrastructure, but also demonstrated how precision engineering, long-term vision, and international cooperation can deliver projects of national significance. The Harbour Tunnel project stands as a defining example of Mr Yong’s ability to translate ambition into execution at the highest level.

Beyond infrastructure, Mr Yong’s story is also one of personal discipline and deep respect for science. Now in his 70s, he continues to lead and oversee multiple large-scale businesses across property, engineering, hospitality, sport, green technology, and health. He has never viewed age as a signal to slow down, because, in his words, success is sustained not by time, but by vitality.

This belief is what naturally connects Mr Yong to Heartbeats AU Pty Ltd. As a strong advocate of evidence-based thinking, he sees health not as a lifestyle trend, but as strategic infrastructure for human performance. The philosophy behind Heartbeats, adding life into years, not just years into life resonates deeply with his own experience. It is this foundation of physical resilience, mental clarity, and purpose that enables him to remain fully engaged, decisive, and forward-looking well beyond the age when many consider retirement.

Heartbeats was founded by Professor Hosen Kiat, one of the world’s most highly cited clinical cardiologists, to translate rigorous medical science into practical, everyday guidance for long-term health and longevity. Mr Yong’s support reflects a shared conviction: that the next era of leadership whether in infrastructure, business, or society will be defined by those who understand health as the ultimate enabler of sustained impact.

“True longevity is not about stepping back,” Mr Yong said. “It is about having the capacity, physically and mentally to continue building, contributing, and leading. Heartbeats represents that philosophy grounded in science.”

As Heartbeats continues to expand its global education and preventive health initiatives, Mr Lu Min Yong’s journey from delivering nation-shaping infrastructure to championing human longevity stands as a powerful example of how science, purpose, and endurance can shape a life without limits.

Singapore Biennale 2025: Experience Singapore Anew Through Art

0

SINGAPORE, Jan. 26, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The eighth edition of the Singapore Biennale 2025 (SB2025) is on view through 29 March 2026. Guided by the theme of pure intention, audiences are invited to experience Singapore through immersive, participatory, and site-responsive works that reflect the rituals, histories, lived experiences and aspirations that have shaped our environments. These encounters encourage the public to discover different layers of the city’s rhythms and evolving identity, opening new ways of seeing, feeling, and connecting through art.

SB2025 activates five neighbourhoods across the city, comprising over 100 artworks by more than 80 artists, alongside independent presentations from a diverse network of invited curatorial collectives. At Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark, artworks explore the complex interplay of history, technology, memory, and daily life. Paul Chan’s bright nylon figures greet visitors, evoking shifting notions of the body, pleasure, and one’s relationship to nature. In the gallery, Álvaro Urbano’s stainless steel plants become characters in a carefully staged environmental theatre, reflecting on our layered histories of plantation agriculture and orchid diplomacy. RRD (Red de Reproducción y Distribución) explores everyday expressions from street-food packaging to artisanal plates, presenting unexpected connections between Singaporean and Mexican culinary cultures.

Along Singapore’s Orchard shopping belt, SB2025 activates strata-titled malls and the former Raffles Girls’ School at 20 Anderson Road. Step into the school field to encounter a transdisciplinary project by curatorial contributor Hothouse that questions the tamed definition of “nature”. Look out for a “lucky cat” hidden amongst greenery, as Salad Dressing examines the ethics of rewilding, displacement and spiritual ecology.

In the Civic District, the Biennale activates monuments and public spaces like Fort Canning Park. lololol presents an after-dusk journey with a site-responsive light installation at the Lighthouse, and a sound walk around the park that speaks to the history of wayfinding. Scan the QR code to kickstart a GPS-enabled, self-guided sound walk, and immerse in a narrative shaped by the artists’ encounters with lighthouses, keepers and crypto-linguists.

Along the Rail Corridor and its surrounding spaces, artworks explore how infrastructures shape how people live and belong. At Wessex Estate, Blenheim Court, the sea lingers in Jesse Jones’ film and installation, where oyster shells are used to explore hydrofeminism and prehistoric ecofeminism. Have a kombucha by Huang Po-Chih, with unique flavours using ingredients from the artist’s hometown in Taiwan, and economic crops that were once widely grown in Singapore. The work is also sold at multiple sites for Biennale-goers to enjoy.

SB2025 is commissioned by the National Arts Council, Singapore, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and organised by Singapore Art Museum. Perfect brownie recipe for healthy back-to-school lunchboxes

0

As Australian children head back to school this week, parents across the country are facing the annual challenge of packing nutritious lunchboxes that kids will actually eat.

Pediatric dietician Karina Savage has shared her expert advice on creating healthy, balanced lunchboxes without the pressure of Instagram-perfect presentations.

WATCH THE VIDEO ABOVE: Healthy school lunchbox tips from a pediatric dietician.

Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Arrow

Savage recommends focusing on three key food groups. First, whole-grain carbohydrates such as grainy bread, wholemeal bread, grainy crackers, and popcorn, which help children concentrate and stabilise blood sugar levels throughout the day.

Second is protein, but Savage warns against processed meats like ham and salami; she suggests good-quality protein sources, including eggs, hummus, edamame, tuna, and barbequed chicken.

The third essential group is plant foods, with Savage recommending two serves of fruit and two serves of vegetables.

She also advocates for including a small treat in lunchboxes, saying it helps to normalise pairing treat foods with healthy eating and makes sure kids are less likely to sneak these kinds of foods.

For parents navigating the confusing snack aisle, Savage offered three simple guidelines: look for shorter ingredient lists, choose muesli bars with less than five grams of sugar per serve, and select savoury snacks with less than 350 milligrams of sodium per 100 grams.

Savage’s favourite snack recipe is a black bean brownie, a recipe she shared with Nat and Shirvo on Monday.

Black Bean Brownie

Ingredients

  • 1 x 400g tin organic black beans (strained and rinsed)
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 3 free-range eggs
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup raw sugar
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt – if wanted

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 160 degrees celsius
  2. Line a square baking tray with baking paper (and slightly grease the tray to enable the paper to stick to the pan)
  3. Blend all ingredients in a food processor at high speed until forms a paste
  4. Cook for approx 25 – 30 mins until ready (knife placed in centre of brownie comes out clean)

Flight disruptions from massive winter storm will linger Monday

0

A flight information display shows the cancelled flights due to weather conditions out of LaGuardia airport in New York on January 25, 2026.

Charly Triballeau | Afp | Getty Images

Air travel disruptions will linger into Monday even after a winter storm that forced airlines to cancel more than 15,000 U.S. flights over the weekend clears out.

The winter storm is bringing heavy snow, ice, and sleet, followed by bitter cold across much of the country.

More than 3,000 flights were canceled for Monday, far fewer than over the weekend but a sign that airlines will need a day to recalibrate after the storm. Over 40% of Monday’s departures from New York’s LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy Airport, and a third of the schedule of Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, were canceled, as were more than 60% of those out of Boston.

Only 34 Tuesday flights were canceled thus far, however.

Airlines routinely cancel flights ahead of a major storm to prevent planes, passengers and crew from getting stranded, which can worsen disruptions after severe weather clears. January is a low season for travel but the vast storm was snarling travel across the country for hundreds of thousands of people.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and other U.S. carriers said they are waiving change and cancellation fees as well as fare differences to rebook for customers with tickets to and from more than 40 airports around the country. The waivers include restrictive basic economy tickets.

American, JetBlue and Southwest are scheduled to report results this week, and their executives are likely to receive questions from analysts about the impact of the storm on their financial results.

The winter storm comes less than a month after airspace was closed over parts of the Caribbean following the U.S. attacks in Venezuela, prompting mass flight cancellations at the end of the holiday season.

On Sunday, airlines canceled 11,400 U.S. flights, according to FlightAware, with affected airports stretching from Texas to Maine.

Nearly 90% of Sunday flights were canceled at LaGuardia Airport in New York and 99% at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. More than 74% of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, which have more international flights, were also canceled for Sunday.

Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines cancelled 1,471 mainline flights on Sunday, close to half of its schedule, while Atlanta-based Delta scrubbed 1,307, or 40%, according to FlightAware. Close to half the flights at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest, were canceled.

Even airports out of the storm’s path were affected as airlines grounded planes.

American said last week that it was repositioning its airplanes and increasing staffing at major airports to help soften the impact of the storm and to “set the stage for a fast, safe recovery once conditions improve.”

States of emergency

More than 20 U.S. states were under emergency declarations this weekend due to the massive winter storm.

As of 10:05 a.m. ET Sunday, more than 797,000 U.S. customers were without power, with the worst hit areas being Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana, according to PowerOutage.com.

The Department of Energy issued an emergency order temporarily authorizing grid operator PJM Interconnection to run power generation facilities to help ensure electricity amid extreme temperatures and storm impact across the mid-Atlantic region, though it may exceed environmental permit restrictions.

“As Winter Storm Fern brings extreme cold and dangerous conditions to the Mid-Atlantic, maintaining affordable, reliable, and secure power in the PJM region is non-negotiable,” U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said.

The Department of Energy also authorized the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, to run backup generators for the state.

The National Weather Service warned last week that the winter storm could affect hundreds of millions of people and is expected to “bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies to New England through Monday.”
